Have been popping in and out of this location for around three years, there's a reason I take breaks from coming regularly. Sometimes they're friendly and welcoming. Other times that welcome is reserved for other customers, and when I once asked for a bag from a certain employee, he placed the small folded bag next to my 3 purchased items and yelled NEXT!!!! This location is very popular with tourists starting their day and meeting up with guides. Today I was greeted with a genuine Good Morning. I wanted to pick something for breakfast and lunch but alas the sweets got me. I got my usual yogurt with fresh berries and raspberry sauce(it'd be nice if they gave a little more). I looked at the entire selection as I felt relaxed to do so bc I wasn't being rushed, and asked if they had banana bread. I got one and have to say it was one of the best banana breads I've had [must be my daughter's is #1 :) ]. I also eyes a little chocolate tart, will add a picture when I can. Ole and Steen has a great hot chocolate for this winter season. I went twice this weekend, because I loved the hot chocolate so much the first time. The inside is a large cafe, lots of seating room. Huge selection of pastries. We walked in around closing time on Saturday, but the barista was so accommodating. Their hot chocolate machine was already shut off so he hand steamed each cup. We also ordered a croissant and spinach roll. The croissant is a must have for dipping in this thick rich hot chocolate. I had asked for the spinach roll to be heated but the oven was already off, I requested to cancel it but he threw it in for free for the inconvenience. So nice of him! read more

Copenhagen, Denmark comes to New York and I can taste Danish cultural cuisine since I cannot travel to Denmark. Customer service is average. A little chocolate in the morning to enhance my day. It was not entirely sweet. Seating is limited. No comment on the drinks as I did not order any. I visited Denmark a few years back and I was a big fan of the Lagkagehuset bakery in Copenhagen. Everyday I was in Denmark, I would go to grab their kanelstang, which is basically a Danish cinnamon twist, with key ingredients such as cardamom, and a cinnamon-sugar filling. After returning back to the states, I craved the kanelstang and I found that Lagkagehuset had a few locations in the US (New York City) under the name of Ole & Steen. So, when I finally had the chance to travel to NYC (from CA), I was on a mission to get the kanelstang! Ole & Steen sells the "cinnamon social" which I thought would be the rebranded version of kanelstang. So, I grabbed a few, only to realize that they have taken away the classic cinnamon-sugar filling and replaced it with a vanilla cream. I was generally pretty disappointed because it had lackluster flavor, definitely not what I had expected. Unfortunately, it looks like they altered their menu away from more traditional items, like the ones found in their Denmark stores. Pretty disappointing in my opinion. However, besides their menu options, I do give credit to the very helpful workers who were super hard working and attentive behind the counter. The bakery was busy, but the line went by relatively quickly (within 5-8 min). Otherwise, the cafe seating was plentiful but ultra-crowded. Located across the street from the Four Seasons Hotel, this coffee shop called our name due to its proximity, logo, and welcoming storefront. My friends and I were in need of some coffee and light bites to start our day and they delivered. It's a fast casual chain with a variety of baked goods, savory and sweet and some more than decent coffee. We ordered and had our food and drinks within minutes... I had a coffee with steamed oat milk, another had a coffee and another had iced tea. We also had a croissant and cinnamon roll. We took everything to go but there is a seating area for those that choose to stay there. I've had different beverages here and they are usually pretty good. They have bread specials every week and you can get a big loaf which will probably last you the whole week. The food is overpriced and portions are snack sized. I recently bought a regular iced coffee and asked for oat milk. I have been a massive fan of Ole and Steen bread (particularly the Skagen loaf)....I live between NYC and North Carolina and have often taken a suitcase full of bread home to NC (where the bread is awful!) and freeze it for later use. I usually toast the last few slices just to avoid wasting any! Imagine my disappointment when I went to my usual bakery (Tribeca) to firstly notice they have changed the name to (seeded sourdough, such a lame name!) but there was worse to come . The texture of the bread has changed, the color or the bread itself has gone whiter and the crust is just not the same. Can you get full for under $3 in NYC? It sounds quite impossible ... until I chanced upon the "Rye Roll" at Ole & Steen. I was in a hurry, so thought of getting a small pastry just to lessen the feeling of hunger. I chose the rye roll because I like rye and pumpkin seeds. I ate it while walking to my destination ... and was totally surprised at how full I felt before I finished it! It was that substantial! And delicious too! The Copenhagener was tasty and flaky, had a light not too sweet almond filling, Sprinkled with poppyseed on top. Excellent pastry. The inside of this place did not feel clean. There was no antibacterial purell in the dispenser. Employees were semi helpful when I asked what they offered that was not too sweet. They did not include Copenhagener but when I asked they said yes, That also is not too sweet.
