Chai Latte
Cole L.

My girlfriend and I saw this little hole-in-the-wall coffee shop just before we went to get breakfast, and at first glance, it seemed like we were going to start another day with a great coffee and great breakfast, but both of us could not be more disappointed. My girlfriend Just got a regular iced chai latte and after her first sip could tell it was just made from a low quality powder, and I got a double shot of espresso in hopes of continuing my streak of amazing espresso this trip and was severely disappointed. Would not recommend.

This is a great coffee and pastry shop. They serve a wide variety of pastries, all the pastries I tried were delicious. The staff were very friendly and helpful, I highly recommend this coffee shop

Egg White Spinach Frittata with Feta .. Cold Foam Cappuccino

Service is horrible. Asked for a coffee to be sweet.. told me there's sugar but it was unsweetened. And feta spinach wrap was so cold after being "warmed "

There are several locations throughout the city, but this one has the friendliest staff. Even when they are busy, service is quick. The place is small. I think it only has one table. But it is not really a dine-in place. I enjoyed their coffee and delicious confections! They have such a wide selection such as potato bureka, frittata, banana walnut loaf, buttery croissants, and so on. Overall 4 stars.

1/1 Service; 2.5/3 Food; 1/1 Value Matto Espresso is a coffee chain that caters to a variety of diets on a budget. This location does not have seating, so, like many other Mattos, it is a grab-and-go affair. This location is clean and hygienic. Everything is advertised as costing $2.50, but that is if you order through the app ($3.50 at the cashier). However, the staff was really nice and patient as some of the members in my group downloaded and ordered through the app instead. At my other visits, I've had the coffees which are very good, especially given the price. They rotate some unique flavors from time to time, which can be a hit or a miss (keeping in mind the price), but the classics they do exceptionally well. Plus, they do not charge extra for non-dairy alternatives. I had a cold-pressed "energy booster" juice, while one friend had the cold-pressed "skinny green" juice and another the strawberry lemonade. The energy booster was good, but left an almost medicinal aftertaste. Overall, we all enjoyed our beverages. Matto is an incredible value considering that it's hard to even find drip coffees for $2.50 in the city. Overall, it's worth (re)visiting for a drink or pastry on the run!

Update: They are open on weekends now as well. One of the best deals in the city. Using the app about 2 blocks away ensures my order is ready by the time I arrive (no matter how busy they are)

Rude non caring message response from my review

This was a horrible experience. Little space, over priced and the guy working the register was curt and rude. I received an email asking me for feedback so I told him about how rude the guy was and they sent me another follow up message saying I hope you find a good alternative. See attached screenshot. What is that?

I was around the area and saw this little shop that recently opened up and currently offering free coffee. My fat soul couldn't resist baked goods so i purchased a buttered croissant, who can resist a big fluffy croissant for less than $3! The staff was very friendly and welcoming. I enjoyed the breakfast and will definitely stop by again to try the other selections!

I asked the hotel concierge for a coffee shop recommendation and he said "Matto". Was a few steps from my hotel and quaint. This is a simple place with really good coffee and the kicker is "everything is $2.50" (when you use the mobile app) $3.50 in Store. The whole menu! This is coffee, pastries, and food perfection.

I went with the classic everything bagel toasted with lox cream cheese. The lox cream cheese wasnt too fishy, it was just plain cream cheese with chunks of lox. I was slightly worried it might be too much but it was the perfect amount of flavor, not overpowering. The location is right near Madison square garden and close to Times Square. It was really busy and they don't have many tables so I ended up getting my bagel and eating it in a park in the city.

Sure there's a line but the line moves fast because the order takers are not playing. You better be ready when it's your time to order and pay attention because they will keep yelling next customer if you are not there when the person in front of you is finish. Once you order there's a lot of people standing in a crowd waiting for their order; just stand with them and before you know if your order is ready. It's super quick. Ambiance: crowded and loud but in a good way

It's pricey, but welcome to FiDi. My one complaint is they try to upsell you. Like, I'm sure your pastry that's unique to Puerto Rico and that I've never had before is delicious, but I need to get going and I don't want to dip into my 401k for it.

Walking the streets close to my hotel I stumbled across a big PuertoRican flag infront of a…read morebusiness and I knew I wanted to check out what it was. It happened to be 787 Coffee which I have visited plenty of times on the island and enjoy. With excitement and in Spanish I tell the cashier that I was happy to come across this place as I have tried them out in PR. How is it that this "jibara" apparently from Maricao, spoke to me in broken English while I am talking to her in our native language, total fail. Anyhow, I ordered the coquito hot latte with an extra shot of rum and oat milk, fine, I paid $11 for a very small coffee. Now what I can't believe is that the quesito pastry was $8. I really wanted it but it was not until I paid that I then noticed the price. I sat to eat it while I waited for my name to be called as mentioned by the cashier. I walked around looking at everything, the music very loud and hard for people sitting to have conversations, the place is very colorful and with many PR sayings, however the place also feels very Americanized with the music and layout. I still awaited my name to be called minutes later, but nothing. I approached the cashier, who was just standing there, to ask about my coffee and she wasn't able to tell me so she asked the barista steps away from her. He pointed to a cofre sitting on their counter, it had my name, and when I pointed out that I was waiting for my name to be called, she shrugged her shoulders and smiled like she didn't care. The coffee by now was not all that hot, I never tasted any rum or coquito flavor and felt I wasted my time at this place. What's more upsetting is that I left a nice tip for a service that was not provided. They couldn't even bring the coffee ti my table once they realized it was sitting there and they forgot to call my name. You can find better service elsewhere.

After brunch, wandering with that satisfied, unhurried feeling, I stepped inside for the first time--and instantly understood the quiet devotion it inspires. The space hums softly with the rhythm of New York on the move, yet somehow manages to feel calm, intentional, and inviting. The chai latte was pure bliss: fragrant, warmly spiced, and flawlessly balanced--not overly sweet, not timid, but deeply comforting with every sip. It felt crafted rather than poured, the kind of drink that makes you slow down despite yourself. Surrounding it was an irresistible array of sweet treats and beautifully prepared coffee options, each promising (and delivering) the same level of care and quality.
