I really love this place. It's near my church and sometimes before or after I'll stop in. The coffees are delicious (my usual are a Cortado, or an Americano). Last Easter I bought a bunch of Hot Crossed Buns because work kept me too busy to make them. These were the next next thing to homemade- seasoned with Cardamom and full of currents, exactly the right texture. No short cuts. Later this year, bought a loaf of Rye bread that looked too amazing to leave, with sesame seeds, and had it sliced. I enjoyed making toast for my eggs, and froze what I did not immediately eat, and it's a superior sour rye with a nutty accent. Today I had a tuna sandwich on a baguette style bread with tomato and lettuce. It's November first but the tomatoes were tender and the bread chewy and it was absolutely delicious. Toastie sandwiches are super delicious and worth checking out. They come with a variety of fillings and are kind of like a Danish Panini. The only nit pick? They want your order at the start of a long counter. Let a guy check out what is in the bakery case for a second! NY hustle, but I'm a NYer and can deal. This is the second Ole & Steen I've tried in Manhattan, and I found it similar to the location I first visited near Bryant Park. This branch is located near Grand Central Station, and they offer a varied menu of pastries, prepared food items including sandwiches, and beverages including coffee and espresso-based drinks. There's also a moderate amount of seating available along with a restroom in the rear of the cafe. I ordered a poppyseed muffin that was topped with a lemon frosting, and while it was small in size, I appreciated the flavor and the tart citrus element. This establishment was right across from our recent hotel stay in midtown NYC. Wonderful selection of sweet and savory pastries, sandwiches, fresh breads, and hot beverages. There are various locations throughout the city. I chose a poppy seed covered pastry with almond paste and a lemongrass hot tea. Both were excellent. However, service was quite slow and server not so friendly. Visited the next day with family and service was quick and friendly, and the coffee excellent. I did a pre-order ahead of time, but the drink was not made when I came in and I had to wait, which I feel like defeats the purpose of order ahead. The app always gives me issues here. Once, years ago, Ole & Steen was brand new in Manhattan and we stopped by to share coffee and a pastry. And we bought their version of, I think, a loaf of rye to take home. As I recall, we were unimpressed. But today, so many years later, on our way home from Grand Central Terminal, we found something different! First of all, it's a large storefront and it was packed, almost every table full, with what appeared to be young (20s, 30s) professional people at 4 pm. Lots of chatter, lots of computers open. Couples and groups of assorted combinations huddled around the small but adequate tables. We ordered 2 decaf Americanos and shared a pastry called a raspberry spandauer, a small piece of which is pictured here. It was delicious! Perfect crust, puffy and flaky, dry and not the least bit soggy. In the center, maybe a tablespoon of raspberry jam with sliced almonds scattered on top. Very very good. The coffees are served in paper cups w plastic lids, but hot and good. They also have some small plates and sandwiches if you're there for breakfast or lunch. It'll be nice to go back and try some of those, or try another lovely pastry on another lovely mid-afternoon! read more

Found this place on a whim when I was walking around Manhattan!! It said this was where the "cinnamon social" started and I had no idea what that was so had to try it. As a Florida girl visiting NYC for the first time, I had a little mini bucket list for the weekend. Getting a fresh pastry from a cafe in the city was HIGH on the list. Well. Let's just say I picked the RIGHT place!!! I saw from the window outside the wide assortment of fresh baked pastries and my eyes darted to the many options this cafe offered. I ended up getting the cinnamon social and fell in love. When warmed it was exactly what I wanted. Ooey, gooey, delicious, and still firm. Clean, airy, sunny, and full of ample seating - this place has been a go to for coffee chats, meeting colleagues for a quick catch up, taking a lunch, bringing your laptop. It's surprisingly quiet and peaceful despite it being a busy shop. There is enough seating with space around each table so you're not squished up against each other. And they have of course coffee drinks, pastries, and some sandwiches and salads for lunch. I had the vegan zucchini toastie. Very pleasant lunch break to refresh my mind. Everything was delicious! The cinnamon social slice was delightful (this coming from someone who has high standards for cinnamon rolls and related cinnamon pastries). Every bit was full of delicious cinnamon and two days later, it still tasted great. The chicken blt toastie was full of flavor. I personally didn't care for the sauce they used on the sandwich, but my friend seemed to enjoy it. The overnight oats were filling and full of actual ingredients- we could tell what's in it. Same goes for the fruit cup. The prices are pretty on par with other nyc bakeries. Worth a try if you're near one. read more

Their pastry and baked goods case is loaded with breads, muffins, sweets, savory items, and cookies. They have a solid coffee menu and I ordered a macchiato which is my go-to along with a cortado if I'm visiting for the first time. It's usually my test to see if it passes for me to return. My macchiato was very bitter and not smooth at all. The croissant I ordered was delicious though, so I'd definitely go back for a bite but maybe just a drip coffee. read more

This is a great bake shop to work at! There's Wi-Fi and plenty of seating. There's also not a fight for seats at this location. I'm not that much of a coffee connoisseur, but I do drink a lot of lattes and make my own espresso and coffee drinks at home. I think a latte is worth it when it tastes better than what I can make at home (which it doesn't always), especially as I'm trying to avoid buying drinks outside. Didn't realize until biting into it that it's a Turkey Pattie. The Pattie is soft and mushy and reminds me of liverwurst, rather a rude awakening and not pleasant to say the least. The egg is medium hard, should be hard and fully cooked through. The yogurt parfait is interesting with the hard bits of granola and whatever the dark, hard and crunchy stuff is. The fruit salad is okay, could have more berries in it than cantaloupe and green melons. The oat milk latte is okay, as usual.
