Located in Carnegie Hall. Stopped in twice since it was close to my hotel and great reviews. The first time I stopped in was with a friend. There was one barista and a long line. She was ringing people up and making all the drinks. Our order took some time but didn't mind the wait. We thought she could be batching drinks based on orders since multiple individuals that came after us got our order before us. I came back the next day to grab drinks for me and my friend. I was the only one there so thought it would be a quicker experience. Someone came after the barista started on our drinks. The same girl did the same think as the prior day. Stopped working on our drinks and prioritized the person that came way after me. I think he was a regular based on their interaction. My guess is she prioritized regulars the day before as well. I came back two days in a row, maybe I was relocating and would be a local. Really surprised that I was put to the back again. Come for the coffee and know you will have to wait if you're not a local/regular. read more

Stopped by Ines for a quick coffee and it was such a cute, convenient spot. We got a latte and a cappuccino. I added the lavender syrup to my latte, which was nice, but overall the coffee wasn't the best I've had. Still totally drinkable and the convenience made up for it. It's devoción coffee. It's alright for being right next to Carnegie Hall for a quick shot. I found the coffee kinda sour. Not sure why. I'll try it again another time to make sure it's not the lunch that messed w my palate. Narrow place can hold 10 ppl but seat the same w little comfort. On a Monday morning at 730 this place was not packed, only two people in line. I could have easily missed the entrance with all the construction going on at the beginning of the block. Thankfully the sign outside caught my eye. Ordered a cortado with milk and a blueberry muffin to take back to the hotel. The cortado was delicious and I wish there was more! The blueberry muffin was a bit dry, good thing I had some water to wash it down. But it was filling and went well with the coffee. Service: one person working. What is the point of having good tools, if you are not going to use them correctly? One of the things I listen for when entering a coffee shop that is new to me, when deciding upon whether to order an espresso or a pour over is the sound of the espresso grinder. If I hear beans being ground, and the telltale click-click-click-click of the grinder's doser filling up a portafilter, I know to skip the espresso. Who else is with me? Why? I don't think I have the time to go into the coffee nerd diatribe. But the short version is that old grounds mix with new grounds, and that can diminish the flavor of the final brew. Inès has all the trappings of a great coffee shop. Cute space. Simple menu. Deep attention and respect for its beans. Great tools, including a doserless grinder. Except at this location, oddly the grinder was set to dump its payload into a paper cup which then was used to fill the portafilter basket. I'm still scratching my head at this method of production. I suppose it might create a little less mess and minimize coffee loss from the grinder. However, it also introduces grounds from previous grinds. Once ground, for optimal flavor extraction, one has precious little time to expose the coffee to water. When older grounds are added to the mix, you are inviting off flavors. It's a shame. The espresso was solid. It was good. But I expect it could be great. I suspect the shop is shooting for great. It certainly looks that way. The microfoam was beautiful and glossy. The latte art was simple, but well executed. Pastries look delicious and carefully chosen. Hopefully the next time I return, there will be a renewed emphasis on technique to tie all of it together. Oh, and proper porcelain or even glass cups so that one isn't compelled to drink an espresso from a paper cup. That always leaves me feeling flat. But I'm picky about coffee, so take all of this as you will. read more

Sometimes it's a bit of a wait as there's usually only one barista but there's never more than a couple people in there so it's never that bad. read more

Super small shop, very intimate with exceptional coffee. I was really impressed with their beans and the quality of the espresso. Sometimes the smallest shops deliver the best experience! Although our barista was the only one working while we were there, she was able to take care of our party of four fairly quickly early in the morning. We were even able to get a selection of various breakfast pastries to satisfy the little ones! I absolutely loved the decor and color scheme in there: very simple, minimalistic, with great pops of teal and chic tile with personality. If you're in New York City you might just walk by the spot and not even notice it. However next time I might go out of my way just to come by again. read more

I walked into the shop and was hit with the beautiful coffee aroma. The shop is very clean, but quite small. I found it pretty easy to find. I was staying at the Hilton midtown and was able to go to the shop going directly across the street and into several buildings. They name this 56 1/2 street. Very easy and convenient! Great coffee--I had a cappuccino--made to order, of course. Wonderful decaf cappuccino. I also got a pastry. It was very good. The shop was steadily busy, but I didn't have a wait, at all. A quaint coffee shop that's easy to walk right by if you're not paying attention (I did, twice!). The service was extremely speedy, the price is average for a coffee shop in NYC, and the pastries are divine. I had the chocolate/almond croissant, my friend had the Nutella "donut" (it's almost like a sandwich) and we brought the dulce du leche donut sandwich for my husband. All of us finished every bite and were sufficiently covered in powdered sugar. While the space is small and I would recommend this more as a to-go destination, they do have 3 bar stools and a small table with 2 chairs. If the space had a line, the table and chairs would hardly be intimate, but we had the place to ourselves and enjoyed a nice coffee break out of the rain. If you're staying at the Hilton, you can walk via 6 1/2 avenue and stay pretty much undercover the entire walk, a bonus for me as it was raining quite hard, and I hate paying hotel coffee prices. It's nice to know about this hidden gem when the crowds of midtown Manhattan get a little too overwhelming and all you need is an afternoon pick-me-up. read more

Ines serves strong coffee and delectable pastries in this bright, standing room only cafe. This is the second location (the first on 74th St and York) and the staff were really excited on their first day. Ines is accessible on 56th Street, across from Souvlaki GR, but the signage is not too obvious. You can also enter from the lobby of Carnegie Tower, look for a glass door with the bright white tile work behind it. Joseph and Bex were happy to greet my afternoon group excursion. Currently coffee, espresso, and pastries are on the menu, with the idea to offer breakfast sandwiches in a few weeks. Coffee is sourced from Devocion, they also have tea. I tried the chai bundt cake (excellent, cardamom bliss) and Joseph said the apple and citrus bundt cakes are Ines favorites. They also had danishes, donuts, croissants, and muffins. There are no chairs, but there's a standing ledge for eating on the go. Prices are normal for Midtown, but going to be expensive for the out of towners going to Carnegie Hall. Location is bright and cheerful, staff are awesome, and I wish them well! read more

Hey they are open on weekends. Because Ines is on 56th between 6th and 7th it doesn't have long lines to get great coffee (and pastries).
