Every time I was at another coffee shop in the suburbs, someone would tell me that I have to try Coffee Project. I was in the city early for a concert and figured it was time to give it a shot! Basically designed with me in mind, modern and bright and laser focused on the coffee experience! The woman working behind the counter was pleasant and knowledgeable about coffee. Another plus, she didn't look to upsell to the most expensive option. My biggest requirement for a serious coffee shop is a nice selection of pour over coffee. They certainly deliver. I went with the Colombian Julio Cesar Madrid Logan Culturing Caturra and it was delicious! Served at optimal temperature, the coffee was smooth with well rounded flavor. "Dry" is such a limited word for the consistency of this scone. I ask for butter. "We don't have butter." But you have a kitchen, with cooks and other entrees. Don't they use butter for those? Jam? Big fan of this coffee shop. It's located around the corner of 9th ave and has a neat vibe to it. Like every coffee shop it has the needed bathroom (that is well maintained), wifi (not sure if they leave it on during weekends but both the times I visited were on weekday mornings), and solid coffee. They rotate between a few seasonal drinks which I always appreciate. I tried the pandan latte and was honestly a big fan. It was not too sweet and the pandan flavor complements the coffee nicely. The service is quite nice and they do a good job maintaining the cleanliness of the store. They also have a kitchen and a few pastries. I tried the blueberry muffin and it was delightful. The staff will also warm up pastries for you if requested. When you walk inside they have a few tables on the right where you can use laptops and work, and on the inside there are 3-4 tables for small groups that the store will request you avoid using laptops on. Pandan Latte ($7.50) + Oat Milk ($1): Hands down, the best pandan latte I've ever had. Most pandan coffees I've tried are either too sweet or too subtle, but this one hit the perfect level of sweetness. Came here to try to work a bit in the afternoon. There are limited tables that allow laptops inside, but thankfully someone left pretty quickly. The person working the counter also said that around that time, 1pm ish, the tables come and go very fast, so if you wait a little you'll probably get a table soon. The tables outside were mostly free, though, and all of them had outlets nearby. Tables are quite small and others are working and taking calls and having conversations and outlets are shared between tables, so it can be quite loud and there's a chance there isn't a free outlet. I didn't see what it was like at the outdoor tables, but I assume roughly the same thing, plus no AC :') The pandan coffee was pretty tasty and kept me going through the afternoon, so no complaints there! It also wasn't too sweet; would order again. They also have a nice selection of food and pastries and other interesting coffee drinks. Overall would definitely stop by again if I needed a cafe in the area to work at, but maybe I'd try one of the outdoor tables if I had a ton of meetings. read more

It's clear that this café has a huge fan base of regulars: during my couple hours there, a lot of people stopped by who the baristas knew and were chatting with, which was sweet to see and gave the place a very neighborhood-feel. The coffee was good (I ordered a cortado) and the roast on the beans was nice and flavorful. Service was quick. I'm only taking away one star because online reviews gave me the impression that the space was a lot larger and work-friendly than it was, when in reality the indoor seating felt a bit cramped. As other commenters have mentioned, all of the two-top "laptop friendly" tables were occupied when I arrived, which left me in a bit of a tough spot when I came specifically to do work. While they have more seating than many NY coffee shops, it's clear that it's still not quite enough to support the flow of customers coming in. I've always dreamt of having a neighborhood coffee spot where I could go and read at least a couple times a week if possible. I never could have imagined having one open up next door that was so perfect I'm literally there everyday. Coffee Project is the most amazing place with the highest quality coffee, food and most importantly customer service! I wish I could give them 10 stars, they deserve it. When you walk in the staff will immediately brighten your day no matter what kind of day you're having - Jed, Rysse, Juan are some of the most beautiful souls I've ever met. They memorized my order after the first day and I love that some days even when I forget to say "extra hot" or "easy ice" they remember to do it for me anyway. The ambience is beautiful (it used to be a Japanese restaurant), but it has translated perfectly into a coffee house. They always have great music playing. Some of my favorites are the Kick Ass London Fog - hot or iced (if iced I prefer it with oat milk) and the Matcha Latte with honey. I know everyone has had avocado toast and may think it's the same everywhere, but you've never tasted anything like it until you've had it at Coffee Project. You probably won't be able to order avocado toast anywhere else after you eat it here. Their egg sandwiches with side salads are always fresh and delicious and make a great lunch. Lastly, the downside of a lot of coffee places is that they are crowded with people on their laptops. I love that Coffee Project has dedicated a few tables "laptop free" for people who love to read and just need a place to get away from their kids for an hour! TLDR: great coffee and bites but if you're coming to do work and only no-laptop-designated tables are available, do not take your laptop out or you will have an unpleasant interaction with the staff Coffee project is one of my favorites places for coffee in the city and I go quite often. I've been coming to do work at this location since I've moved to the area several months ago. There are a few three-seat, no-laptop only tables. In the past, I've asked if it would be okay to do work at these tables while I wait for a laptop-designated table and I've been told it's fine, as long as it's not busy and no one's waiting for a seat. During this visit, my friends and I pulled our laptops out while we were eating the food we purchased. While there was no line and no one waiting for a table, we were suddenly approached and told, "you see that sign that's turned around? Yeah. It says that, 'this laptop is table free' and it says that for a reason. I'm gonna ask you to put your laptops away." When I asked what the reason was because there was no line and no one waiting she responded, "Its because 70% of our tables are already dedicated for laptop use so these tables are meant for people who want to have a coffee and chat, instead sitting all day doing work." While sure, we shouldn't have had our laptops out, the interaction was so curt and sassy that it left us and the tables next to us very confused. I honestly do not mind being asked to honor whatever policy an establishment has, but the delivery made me, my friends, and the tables next to us uncomfortable and upset. I relocated to another table and my friends left after finishing their food. The tables behind me are still empty an hour later and it's not busy. Overall: I like the coffee and food here so I'll keep returning to do work but service today gave me and my friends the biggest ick. Will be avoiding that barista in the future. read more
