This is my new favorite breakfast spot in Norwich! I really enjoyed the home like feel this restaurant provided. This place is a little cozy country style restaurant serving amazing breakfast. The parking lot is large which is great because it was very busy when I arrived. Due to how busy it was, the wait for the waitress to come over was a bit longer than I had hoped but other than that, the service was great, the food was amazing and the coffee was delicious! I've been here a number of times and it is unfortunately inconsistent. The service is very friendly and usually attentive. The restaurant has a very homey feel about it, and it heels to the nature of the name, with antiques used for decoration and a creaky old barn aesthetic. The parking lot was full, so I knew it was busy. Upon entering they have souvenirs for sale. (Cool trinkets.) We actually waited less than 5 minutes. I found the restaurant to be charming, an interesting mixture of antique and new. I ordered the strawberry waffle, which came out nice and crisp, and though the strawberries were previously frozen, I didn't mind. He loved the lobster omelet, he said he could taste all the flavors, so not too skimpy on the lobster. He had Texas toast with it, though he had to add more butter. I usually have a good experience there, but today I ordered the Olde Tymes Benedict and the cook only gave me one egg with my order. I asked the waitress if she could tell the cook so that I could have the egg added to my order as mentioned in the menu. The cook lied and said they put two eggs on the plate which was clearly missing, so I refused to accept the plate and left. I then went across the street to Big Cat for breakfast. I stopped by Olde Tymes on Saturday morning, just after they opened at 7:00 AM. The friendly, and attentive, staff exhibited every sign of of being morning people, making me feel welcome, indeed. Then again, being family owned, I'd say, not wecomed, but, at home. Case in point, when another patron entered after I had ordered, my waitress greeted her by name, asking, as if genuinely concerned, if said patron had been ok, not having been in for a few days. I have to admit, I wasn't paying attention after that; I was sipping my coffe (ask for a cup and you get a full pot) and marveling at the breakfast menu. Olde Tymes seems to take great pride in its breakfast offerings, going so far as to add the owner's name, and those of his family members, to the "family favorites". So, you don't just get pancakes with sausage and eggs between; you get "Rodney's Stacker!" In any case, I chose the lobster omlette. Listed at $15.99, this seemed a good price for anything with lobster in it, these days. Served in about seven minutes, smothered in hollendaise sauce and filled with cheese, excepting the end folds, there was a chunk of lobster in every bite. Small , chunks, mind you; but plentiful and well worth the price. The meal comes with two sides. I chose the fruit cup and an english muffin. Notably, the muffin was well buttered, and not at dry. Yes, it is an olde restaurant. See what I did there? My husband commented on how old the restaurant looked when we pulled into the parking lot. My thoughts were that it looked like it's been around for a while, that's usually a good sign. We were greeted at the door by employees wearing masks. We were seated at a well spaced out table. Drinks were ordered and brought out right away. A carafe of coffee and a mug were placed in front of me, instantly sending me to my happy place. I ordered Tyler's Pile Up (home fries mixed with onions, peppers, mushrooms, bacon and sausage, topped with 2 eggs). My husband ordered toast, 3 eggs, home fries and bacon. Our son ordered toast (wasn't very hungry that morning). Our meals were delivered in record time. Portions were large. My husband was satisfied with his meal and my son's n had no complaints with his toast. My meal was great, my only complaint would be that there wasn't enough sausage. Cute place for a good breakfast. The place is huge inside and you never know where you'll end up sitting! By the window maybe? Or upstairs tucked into the corner? There's not a bad seat in the house. Foods great, it's comfort food for sure. Love how they have tomato slices as a side option. Sometimes you don't want potatoes with breakfast. The owners are pretty involved in the community which I think is great for business owners to support other local businesses. It's a little dark inside and sometimes the floors a bit messy but if that's my only complaints, this place is doing alright! read more

Olde Tymes catered our wedding and you won't believe what happened! Olde Tymes has always in my eyes been a family restaurant. I took my niece there for years every Sunday for breakfast. So when my husband and I found out they did catering we were thrilled. And the price wasn't bad. They were supposed to serve dinner at 5:15. Our wedding ended up running 30 minutes late (don't all wedding run late?!) By the time people started arriving to the hall it was about 5:20. Ok 5 min after dinner but not too bad on time! My husband and I did some pictures and my friend asked us at 5:25 if we wanted them to start serving dinner or wait for us. We said "please eat". The owners grandson was there. (no, he doesn't work for them, and no we didn't know we would be having one instead of 2 "servers". I put it in parenthesis because he was the grandson and not even a server/worker at Olde Tymes. My friend told him to start dinner and he flat out refused saying he was waiting for the bride and groom. She explained she just talked to us and we said go ahead. He once again refused. I arrived in the room at 5:58. Nobody was eating. I was very confused. The grandson told me when he got there it was 62 degrees in there and that he had to turn up the thermostat because he was freezing. What about the food???? Supposedly the food had just been taken out of the hot bags. I yelled "please everyone eat!" The "server" was kind and polite and did his job. But the was damage was done. The food was ice cold. Not even luke warm. Ice cold. Everything. Apparently Rodney and his grandson arrived 2 hours early to the event with the food. Now our Wedding had 24 people. Why did they need to "set up" for 24 people 2 hours early? It was literally 3 trays. Keep in mind we did all the decorating/setting up that morning. They moved my napkins right in front of the chairs at the table and put silverware. This is all that was required for them to do. (They actually weren't supposed to move the napkins and they looked terrible.) According to Rodney at Olde Tymes "maybe the burners were lit too soon." But the burners were never lit. The food was never even taken out of the bags. So which is it Rodney? The burners were lit too soon or the food didn't even come out of the hot bags until I arrived at 5:58? These were the excuses I was given. Every single person at our wedding said the food was ice cold and therefore inedible. I contacted Rodney and he gave me excuse after excuse saying how he arrived 2 hours early to help set up with his grandson. BINGO. That's why the food was cold. He offered no solution and said "go ahead and write whatever you want". Dealing with Ashley (the catering manager) from Olde Tymes was amazing. She eased every fear we had and was very pleasant to work with. Unfortunately nobody else will get that experience as she has left Olde Tymes. Wonder why. Rodney, your customer service skills are as old as you! You should learn to be kind and fix and own up to your mistakes. Everyone makes them. All we wanted was hot food at our wedding and I don't think that's too much to ask for. In this day and age with the internet and social media, businesses cant afford to do what you did. We came here on the recommendation of the concierge at Mohegan Sun. From the road the building stands out in a sea of concrete strip malls. It is a brown wooden house reworked into a restaurant. My daughter thought it looked like a haunted house. We all made jokes about walking into a horror movie. But there was nothing to be scared of. Everyone was pleasant, service was great, and the food came out fast. The menu is divided enough to provide enough choice for even the pickiest eater and the portions were filling without being too much. Will come back if we are ever in the area again. read more

Couldn't tell you about the food because we didn't like the way we were greeted from the moment we walked in. No one greeted us even thought several people walked by us. Wait wasn't too long but given it wasn't crowded and several people walked by , was expecting someone to at least say "we will be right with you". Then when the person did come over the first thing she said was that we couldn't bring our coffee in we had from Dunkin. There was only one of 4 of us with a Dunkin coffee and it had maybe 2-3 sips left. Then we sat down and Temperature of the place was way too hot. Not sure if they didn't have air or were just too cheap to turn it up. After that we just decided we get up and leave. Then we went to Herbs Deli and breakfast spot. OMG. That place was the exact opposite of what a wonderful experience with owners that still work there and come to the table and offer you a free sample of their homemade pies or breads. If you are looking for a delicious and inexpensive breakfast, this is the spot. For a party of four, with coffee and a breakfast for everyone our bill was $40. You can't beat it and the food was great! The waffle is a real Belgium waffle, not a frozen thin sub par waffle- a real waffle!!! The corn beef hash had chunks of potato and was crisped well, which is the way it's meant to be cooked. The biscuit gravy was just about as good as my grandmothers, and that's saying a lot. You can get a half order of just about anything, so if your interested in the gravy biscuit meal then you can opt for just one biscuit instead of 2, and also get 1 piece of French toast or 1 pancake, 1 egg. I like to be able to mix and match cause sometimes you want one of everything and so the accommodation is wonderful. Coffee was fresh and they bring you a big pot for the table so you can refill and keep your cup hot. The servers were fabulously efficient and they take your order right at the table with these little computer pads that send your order right to the kitchen. The place itself is truly an old time restaurant, so don't walk in looking for bougie and fancy, but do prepare yourself for a great breakfast at a great price. I ordered steak and fried eggs, home fries with sausage gravy and fresh fruit, my husband ordered cinnamon crisp and scrambled eggs. First.. that cinnamon crisp.. DEAR GOD. AMAZING. They see fried French toast that's been dipped in cinnamon sugar and has a baked apple cider type sauce.. seriously the best new thing I've had in years. The steak was a bit over cooked but the eggs had tons of yolk so it was fine. The home fries I regret getting, the potatoes definitely needed seasoning and tasted microwaved or at least warmed up not fresh. The gravy was delicious; creamy, salty goodness. We weren't crazy about the decor but anyone who loves antiques and country would absolutely be at home, just not my cup of tea. Service was good!
