I have been to this place twice now. First experience - with my 4 year old for Sunday morning breakfast. YIKES was the wait LONG at least an hour and the waitresses seem to disappear until your food arrives. BUT the food was delicious!! I had the #1 - with sausage links - super yummy home fries (they are cut like potato chips and I think I tasted a little lawry's seasoning) So first experience was about a 3 in the stars. Second experience was just this last Saturday morning. Seating was limited and it was super busy. The waitress was much more helpful and attentive this time - but still disappeared for a good 30 minutes while we were waiting for our food. Food was GREAT and no complaints there! So overall I like this place just wish they would get a little faster - but this is not a chain and people will wait for good food. BUT just come say HI to your customers that are patiently waiting and ask them if they need anything. Also the prices are FANTASTIC - you can't beat it!! read more

Drove up from Minneapolis to have lunch with my wifes 88 year young grandmother, and I wanted to stay away from the chain restaurants. Looked for place on Yelp and decided to give this a place a try even though it hadn't had any reviews. I got the special, grilled cheese, fries and soup. They had tomato soup, but I decided to go with the wild rice instead (we were in MN, Wild Rice Country.) Ranked in order top to bottom; wild rice soup, grilled cheese, fries. I had an iced tea with lunch, brewed, not from a gun. The soup...outstanding. Creamy, hot and loaded with ingredients. Just a cup came with the special, but that was more then enough. My grandmother got the bowl, also a generous portion. Not enough for most people, but I'm sure it would go well with a salad. The grilled cheese....better then average. It was american cheese on white. Not burnt, not overdone. Not gourmet, but a good sandwich. The fries....skip'em and get the chips. They weren't BAD, but they didn't taste like much either. The service was good. My grandmother seemed to have some issues figuring out what she wanted. The place wasn't very busy and the waitress wasn't very patient with her. We tried this eatery Sunday morning right after opening. Our usual breakfast stop on our way out of the Twin Cities was listed as closed, so we hit upon this one. It was worth the drive off of the interstate! Great service, good food, vintage ambiance, good prices = great value! We tried the corned beef hash breakfast and the everything omelette. The coffee was weak, but it was plentiful (we never ran dry or cold) and we were accommodated with milk instead of the UHT cream which is ubiquitous at cafes nowadays. The over easy eggs with the hash were lovely. Staff served pleasantly and were helpful. The owner was pleasant to chat with as well. We hope to be able to return in the future. read more

This was a great place for breakfast. Judging by the amount of people and the wait time I was hoping for a decent breakfast. I was not disappointed. The bagel sandwich I had was delicious and the others in our party raved about the biscuits and gravy with eggs and hash browns meal the ordered. We tried the cinnamon roll prior to the meal. It was just okay. We also tried an iced coffee, which was just that...a coffee on ice with some cream. Should have stuck with a regular cup of hot coffee. But, if you're looking for a good home cooked breakfast this is a great place to get one. One last mention...the staff and service was outstanding! Fast and friendly. read more

I am very impressed with the quality of service I received on a busy, Father's Day morning with the after church crowd. The restaurant was fully staffed and organized. Traveling through this small town as we were heading North - great breakfast spot - everyone was friendly and nice. Food was excellent, six of us and they managed to serve it all at the same time! Charming, clean, and spacious interior that was bustling with customers for an early weekday morning (love the huge exposed brick wall). This is my favorite restaurant in Elk River. My family goes every single week after church. The owner knows everyone by face so he greets us and notices when one of our family is missing. He's great. Their pancakes are my favorite. They're almost crepe-like, but thicker and they're just sweet enough. My husband loves their blueberry pancakes. I haven't ever had anything there that I don't like. They have thin bacon that isn't burned to a crisp like most breakfast places. Every once in a while they have something called "Jenny's Wild Benne." It's like eggs Benedict only instead of hollandaise they use CHICKEN WILD RICE SOUP!!! Absolutely give it a shot. I recommend it to everyone. It's comfortable and laid back. read more

Went there for Sunday breakfast took 30 minutes to get our food,bacon was nothing but fat omelette did not resemble an omelette and ham slice was very thin. It was hot outside today and due to the heat the old building could not keep up with the cooling inside. Thus. No pie was available. Would have been nice. I had the delicious wild rice soup. Went at 10 on a Thursday morning and the restaurant was about a third to half full, so it definitely wasn't packed, but not empty either. We got drinks right away and our waitress came by shortly after. I ordered a pancake, scrambled eggs, and hash browns. My boyfriend got the French toast and hash browns. Although I had no complaints about my food, his French toast was amazing! I wish I had gotten the French toast instead of the pancake. The pancake I got was fine, super thin, but really big. I prefer my pancakes to be bigger and more airy/fluffy, but this was fine too. It was almost more like a crepe though. Eggs and hasnbrowns were fine. Definitely get the half order if you don't want a lot. I was glad I got the half order of hash browns. There's a nice parking lot behind the restaurant and lots of photos of the historic downtown area inside. After all the hype everyone locally gives and having not have checked it out for years and finally checking it out, I was excepting it to be better, but it definitely wasn't bad and I enjoyed the meal. read more
