What an amazing dinner tonight. Ordered prime rib, medium rare. It was spot on server was pleasant. Great experience.

One of the worst dining experiences I've had in a while. We had a reservation for 11:00 and were seated on time, but our food didn't come out until after 12:50, even though we ordered right away. The service and kitchen timing were unbelievably slow. Several tables around us were also clearly frustrated by the delays. I've honestly never waited almost two hours for food, especially for a pretty basic breakfast. When the food finally arrived, it wasn't worth the wait. Everything felt very basic and under seasoned, and half of us didn't even finish our meals. It really seemed like they were completely unprepared for brunch service. They were also already out of caramel rolls, which was disappointing. Overall, a really frustrating experience between the extreme wait time, poor execution, and lackluster food. read more

We hadn't been there for at least 5 years. We decided to go for our anniversary. I had the smoke house Mac and cheese with brisket. I have to say it was very disappointing. The brisket was very tender so that was the only positive. The whole dish was tasteless. I don't think I've ever sent anything back to the kitchen. My wife's burger was pretty good though. We always enjoy going to Rockwoods. Service & Food is 5-star! Everything that we ordered from the apps, drinks and entrees were served to perfection. Our waiter timed out our meal perfectly. This time we had a Filet Mignon cooked medium rare with Broiled Shrimp, Au gratin potatoes & asparagus. We had a late breakfast here on a Saturday. We were seated quickly and it wasn't too busy. We started with the dill cheese curds. They were perfectly cooked. I had French toast which was tender with a wonderful cinnamon flavor. My husband had a delicious breakfast bowl. The bacon pieces were thick and cooked perfectly. As always the service was great. My wife loved her salad and my French fries. I thought the asparagus was good and at one time I may have liked the fries but recently I've had much, much better. These seemed too greasy and overdone. I just got of the plane from California and hadn't eaten since morning so as you can see I gobbled that french dip down before even thought about a review. That being said I had a lot of sandwiches in California on hoagie style bread and the lack of any sustatual amount of prime rib in this one stood out like a sore thumb. It would have been more accurately been called a mushroom and fried onion dip sandwich. It's sad. It is clear to me that the higher end restaraunts in MN are cutting back on the meats in sandwiches to avoid large price increases while in California they are raising the prices and not sacrificing the quality of their products. F I R S T C L A S S! My first time experience with Rockwoods was a rehearsal dinner and wedding and reception. The entirety of of the 2 day event was flawless on their part. The staff was unbelievably professional, accommodating, timely, prepared, attentive, and on point! The service was impeccable! The bartenders were absolutely ready to fulfill every beverage whim. Even made me a Lavender Kiddie Cocktail. The cocktails flowed all night without interruption. The servers perfectly orchestrated the food service. Talk about team work! I must also shout out to the coordinator and restaurant managers. Teamwork! And, I must mention the professional appearance of all of them. If I were still a fine dining server, I would want to work here. I would like to think this was an example of everyday operations, not just for this wedding! The real star was the food. The Chefs went above and beyond preparing the Bride and Groom's desired menu. It was last summer, so all I can recall was that both meals were spectacular, especially the Walleye that I had ordered. I've been here a few times now since it is my in-law's favorite. The restaurant is big and beautiful with multiple dining areas and a bar. It also has the comedy club attached which makes for a fun date night. The staff is friendly and the menu has quite a variety. I have enjoyed the short rib and the mushroom chicken so far. Their potato au gratin side was disgusting- I'd steer clear of that, but otherwise all of our food has been great. Overall a nice spot to take the family. read more

This is one of my new favorite places to go west of Maple Grove. Everything we have ordered from here has been perfect. The smoked turkey and ribs are phenomenal. We felt that the cheese was not even we distributed across the French fries so we ate big chunks of cheese and I don't believe there was enough cheese to fit across all the poutine. Steady, reliable, and a lot of variety. There are much worse things that could be said about a restaurant, and this embodies those attributes. Nothing stands out greatly, but everything is passable. First, the lobster roll was larger than expected but not nearly as good as others in town (especially Smack Shack). The lobster, sadly, tasted like it was some real meat mixed with imitation. The best item on the menu in my experience seems to be the Pan-Fried Walleye with almonds. It's pretty solid, cooked well, and not at all fishy. Of all the items I've eaten here (quite a few), this one seems like the safest option. You know what you're getting. It's good enough, but not great. read more

We had what I can only describe as "an inconsistent experience". Some of the food items were ordered were great, while other items were lacking. Same thing happened with our service throughout the meal, and with the cocktails we ordered. Food: the seared steak tips were a great appetizer! My only warning is that these do come out medium rare and we were not asking how we would like the meat prepared. (Not a huge problem since I like red but my partner can't deal with any pink, let alone red). The sweet potato tots & seasoned sour cream also made a great appetizer! The En Fuego burger was not spicy, and mediocre. The fried bbq chicken sandwich was bland and dry. Drinks: the blackberry old fashioned was neither bourbony nor blackberry enough; strong taste of bitters only. The aviation martini was perfection! The blueberry mojito was refreshing! The margarita was again, lacking. Service: our server was kind and great with menu recommendations! Bread was brought out as a complimentary starter. When we finished the basket, we were offered another.. we said yes... and it never came. When our entrees came out, we were offered ketchup for the fries... we said yes... and it never came. The appetizer came out so quickly! We were surprised since the restaurant seemed busy. The entrees took what felt like an abnormally long time to come out, as the restaurant was no longer busy. Maybe it was a shift change? Just felt off. Ambiance: the entrance was difficult to find since the restaurant is in the same building as a banquet? We ended up going in a side door and eventually found the host stand. I'm still unsure where the main entrance is. We coincidentally picked a Wednesday to visit, which when they have free live music outside. It was a bit awkward to walk through a huge crowd of people to get in & out of the restaurant, especially when people weren't inclined to move out of the way and stood on the sidewalk paths. Many individuals were intoxicated and did get groped by a stranger while leaving. I would not come on a Wednesday ever again. read more

I was there for brunch and ordered the rib special. The ribs were pretty good, I needed more napkins. It comes with toast, fries and slaw. The toast I was served (2 pieces) one of which had a bite out of the toast. I asked the waitress what happened! She took the meal and didn't return! On the way out, I informed a cook in the kitchen. He returned with a waiter and the waiter said that the toast wasn't bitten, but perhaps it had a piece torn off. I explained it was bitten. The woman at the entrance stepped in and the story was retold. She said she couldn't believe that someone in the kitchen would do that. I expected to be believed, but I was not. Beautiful restaurant great far party/Bar atmosphere and dining room is very romantic with low lights and a fireplace. Our server was VERY attentive and we all loved our food. My granddaughter (3) ate an entire bowl of the kids mac and cheese, I tasted it and the noodles were al dente and variety of cheese was superb, very flavorful. I had a delicious mushroom cheese burger with home made fries that was A+ and my son in law had the Beef pot roast Braised in red wine & Beef stock, he was able to cut with a butter knife, done to perfection with nummy mashed potatoes and perfectly cooked Broccoli. He had 2 Old fashion one regular was just so so and 2nd was a blueberry old fashion and he said it was about the same my daughter had the salmon bowl with Faro wheat and wild rice, root vegetable she thought the salmon was slightly overcooked but a good dish other then that. Bar area has many large Tv's for watching the game and people seemed to enjoy themselves, we spent the weekend at The holiday Inn across the parking lot so easy walk over and Saturday night with reservation we were seated with no wait. read more

The restaurant looked really nice but we just had a terrible experience at Rockwoods. We went there with family, a 3-year-old, 4 year old, 8-year-old and a 9-year-old with their parents and it took us two plus hours to get our food and eat it the waitress took over an hour to order our food and the food sat in the kitchen for so long that most of it was lukewarm when it got to the table. The waitress never came by, never checked on the table. I watched five tables seated after us, order their food, eat their food and leave before we even got our food. I didn't want to embarrass anyone at the table by talking to the manager so I waited until I got home to call and all he said was you should have talked to me then I could have done something then but now it's too late and I can't. He said maybe the waitress was working on the smaller tables first because they were easier. The service was horrendous and the manager it feels like blew us off. read more

The ambiance is very nice (a 5 Star). I felt like I was at a high quality restuarant. The service was excellent (a 5 Star). The food was not so good. We both had the fish and chips. It was a huge helping of fish and french fries. The presentation was beautiful. Unfortunately the fish was greasy when bitten into and the french fries were cold and limp with nothing going for them. We have tried this place several times, always hoping there would be improvement but sadly, the cooking staff does not share the excellence of the ambiance and the service. If this place had the high quality ingredients of a Minneapolis restuarant and an exellent chef, this could be an exceptional restuarant. Go to Sarnas in Columbia Heights ( a similarly priced restuarant) or Jax in Nord-East Minneapolis and see what quality ingredients, fresh oil for frying and an excellent chef provides. One doesn't mind paying for excellence rather that hoping for high quality and instead receiving "so-so" food at a price that leaves one disapointed in a special night out. read more

First, I must say this place is underrated. My family and I held a celebration of life in the Four Seasons room for my father last weekend. We couldn't have chosen a better place! The food was great, the room was beautiful and absolutely perfect. Best of all was the staff...the staff was impeccable. They went above and beyond just doing their job. Their dedication to ensuring everyone in the room was taken care of and enjoying themselves was amazing. They were very attentive, patient and compassionate. Whether it was mixing a special drink, offering to take a photo of our family so we could all be in it or sharing a sweet gesture when they saw tears. They were perfect. Previously had attended a wedding which was a fantastic event and I really enjoyed the venue. Visited the restaurant last Friday for lunch and was pleasantly surprised by the selection of gluten friendly options. Definitely not completely GF, but great for anyone who is looking for gluten friendly! I had the buffalo chicken Mac & cheese with GF rotini and grilled chicken tossed in buffalo sauce (topped with blue cheese). My friend got a plain cheeseburger which was very good and fantastic fries. Service was great and food arrived quickly. Large bar area and pretty busy for lunch. Wow! Just, wow! This place is truly special. Everything on the menu has so much soul and character. First, the hallmark of expertly smoked meat is the smoke ring. I ordered smoked brisket. Not only was it tender, like room temperature butter kind of tender, the smoke ring around the brisket was obnoxiously vivid. You couldn't even coat the thing in pink lip stick to bring out more color. So, Rockwoods definitely has their smoke game on point. Really on point. I was in last week for my first time. Ordered a burger because, well, I just felt like a burger. You can taste the pursuit of perfection in every bite of food on the menu. One of the best burgers I've ever had. Seriously, burger perfection. I even *tried* to complain, lol. I wanted arugula on my burger but our waitress said they didn't have any. I was surprised because the food was so good I decided to do a big take out order and settled on a smoked salmon sandwich......with arugula on it. So, I mentioned something to the manager when I came to pick up my order. I mean, I really should have known better because this place is just TOO good......"I'm very sorry about your experience, Bryan. That amazing smoked salmon sandwich you're about to enjoy is a new addition to our menu. Today. When you came for your visit last week, we didn't have any arugula on the menu and as we make everything from scratch with seasonal produce, we didn't have any arugula on site." What a great spot! I sat at the bar and had a great time with the two bartenders! They have great recommendations on apps to have and what to eat for our meals. We got the smoked Salmon Dip and added jalapeños and chips per bartender rec! It was so good! I also loved the addition of a Little Rock.
