Just came home from a wonderful night at the unassuming Hitching Post restaurant. We went on a whim looking for good food with live music... asked Siri and The Hitching Post was on the short list so off we went! What a surprise! The hostess directed us to the lounge when we asked where the music was and was quickly greeted by Amy the waitress which took our drink order immediately. The drinks were very good as was the appetizers. But the music was top notch. Our main course was very good and the chef didn't seemed put out by my request on how I like my choice prepared. ( I am a fussy eater) We called the manager over to compliment our service and she introduced herself as Janice and thanked us for taking the time to tell her how happy we were with the food and entertainment! The band was Gutzy Right and we will be back again. Thank you Janice the manager for having the band play a little longer when she saw the crowd did not want the music to end... such a delight to find this place!!! A true 5 star experience! read more

Excellent Restaurant! My family and friends frequent here often. The menu has lots of variety and they offer great specials for dinner. Breakfast is also another favorite for us. The kids menu has lots of great options and the portions are perfect for the little ones. We are always greeted with a smile by the friendly hostess or the owner who is always so welcoming to us. The atmosphere is my favorite, very simple and elegant. Waitresses are very attentive and always accommodate any special requests. Nothing but great things to say about OHP! Love the food, staff and atmosphere and hope to continue dining here as a regular for a long time! read more

I recently went to the Olde Hitching Post for the first time on a Sunday night. My parents had been in town visiting me and wanted to take my boyfriend and I out to dinner. I've only lived on the south shore for about 2 years and actually first heard about this restaurant from my mom who is a big Gordon Ramsey fan (she saw the restaurant featured on an episode of Kitchen Nightmares)... Anyhow, it's been on our list of places to try for a while and I'm really glad we did! We arrived about 6pm and were seat right away. My boyfriend and I both ordered the Angus Beef Tips (I opted to add the blue cheese sauce for an extra $1) and we were both very satisfied. The beef was very tender and cooked perfectly. I thought the blue cheese sauce was quite tasty! My father got the Carbonara Pasta dish and it was also amazing. Very very good! Unfortunately, my mom got the Herb Encrusted Haddock fish special and wasn't overly impressed with it. It wasn't necessarily bad, she just didn't think it had that much flavor. With that said, we all were pleasantly surprised with our overall experience and I will definitely be back. I highly recommend the Angus Beef Tips and/or the Carbonara Pasta (both of those dishes are on their regular dinner menu FYI). read more

We were very impressed with the Olde Hitching Post Restaurant. The sixteen family members in our party ordered many different dishes, and I did not hear a single complaint about anything. The decor is bright and cheerful, and the staff worked very hard to serve us, gladly honoring requests for menu substitutions. I was wary when my brother suggested a fried calamari appetizer, but they melted in your mouth. A fried onion ring appetizer was equally appealing, light and not the least bit greasy. I had fried whole belly clams that were among the best I had ever tasted. Shared desserts were delicious. Beverages were great. The cost per person was barely $50 with tax and tip included. I recently ordered catering from here for a family gathering after a funeral service. After some indecisiveness on amounts (on my end) I placed my order to be delivered. The next day I received a phone call from the owner who took the time to confirm the amounts and to make sure that I knew that I ordered enough food for 200 people (I was looking to feed maybe 30 people). I was so appreciative that she took the time to clear this up with me, not only to save me money, but also so I was not stuck with a ton of food! Not that I would have minded since the food was excellent. They dropped everything off right on time and also set everything up and left the warming box at my home so the second pans of food did not get cold. I would recommend to anyone looking for a stress free catering experience. read more

Plenty of parking, good friendly crowd, we sat at the bar, good service, great food and specials, we loved the seafood stuffed mushrooms, nice decor, soft live music in the corner, large TV behind the bar, very reasonable prices. Four of us dined here on a Friday night during the first week of March. The menu offers many good choices. I enjoyed a scallop dish and my bride loved the portabella mushroom sandwich. She raved about how good it tasted. Another patron we met, raved about the salmon dish being so very tasty. Service was pretty good and the place was very busy. I can only speak for the breakfast here but I was super hungover and decided to try this place and I loved it. Everything fromthe good strong not burned coffee to the nice polite server. The hash was soo good I crave it still. I ordered over easy eggs and if you go out for breakfast alot you know my pain when a place will break or mess up the yolk and hide it under theother eg or under toast. well do not worry about that here. You will maybe pay a dollar more than everywhere else for each persons meal but its well worth it. read more

It was our first visit and we got a quick to go order. Our expectations were exceeded. The app platter we got was prepared perfectly. The onion rings held their crunch, the potato skins were above average for the area and their boneless buffalo wings had a great batter. The Carbonara was fresh and creamy, not thick and heavy. It was bursting with flavor. Definatly an instant favorite. The quarters were a little tight to sit in and dine. Overall great experience. read more

Had a post golf tourney dinner here yesterday. They helped put together a nice and reasonably priced menu. Food was excellent and service was top notch. I have eaten here several times and food is always good. My family has also had several other functions here and each time has been great. I am embarrassed it took me this long to write a review. I must say since the "Kitchen Nightmares" episode dining at the Olde Hitching Post is a warm and comforting "dream." In October my sister's and I went out for lunch at this restaurant,to celebrate my birthday. We had eaten there a few times prior to that, and it was a positive experience. Our meals were always delicious, and the atmosphere is welcoming and cozy. This year we had all decided to try dining out for Thanksgiving and asked to see a menu. We decided to make a reservation and so glad we did! Subsequently,as I glanced around the table following our orders,I observed a lot of happy faces chowing down on their ( sizable portion) meals. Clearly, dining out is certainly not comparable to celebrating the holiday at home. However we were all literally thankful for being together, and what turned out to be a memorable Thanksgiving at the Olde Hitching Post. I also might add clean up was a breeze, as we snuggled up for warm hugs in the parking lot. read more

This restaurant is a great find. Neighborhood gem. Delicious food, very reasonable prices, large portions. Menu selection has something for everybody. I had a Greek inspired dish tonight that was fabulous. It consisted of sauteed pork, peppers, onions, rice pilaf (home made) with Greek salad greens on side. My dining partner had "chicken Riley" which was equally fabulous. The blend of flavors on both entrees was remarkable. A few years ago I had a private family function at this restaurant. At the time the restaurant was highly recommended to me by a couple of friends. My function consisted of a brunch that was wonderful. Again, the brunch was excellent, reasonable priced and a good time was had by all. read more

The servers were very friendly and accommodating. The food was good, especially the fruit cup. I would guess they had more parties come in than they anticipated because the service was painfully slow. Their "egg whites" we're not white... Which was odd. I doubt we'd dine here again for breakfast, but might check it out for a date night without kids. Making a three year old sit still for the length of time we had to wait makes for a very stressful dining experience. read more

I went here for the first time tonight on October 17, 2018 for a birthday dinner with my 2 brothers and dad! I have been wanting to try the place after seeing it on Kitchen Nightmares with Gordon Ramsay and I have to say that the food is pretty good especially the homemade maple butter used for the freshly baked rolls they serve. My entree for the night was Chicken Parm and it tasted a lot like one that is made at The Chateau, which is pretty good Chicken Parm as well. The interior is exactly how I have seen it redone on Kitchen Nightmares and it looks really nice. I would love to come back here again and try different foods and maybe even a dessert. read more

Oh my gosh! I've been here two times, once before Kitchen Nightmares came, which then the food was inedible. However, when I found out that Kitchen Nightmares came to the restaurant I thought I would give them a second chance, and was I right to give it to them. The food was like eating at a high-class restaurant, the fish was so light and fresh. It was as if I never tasted fish before in my life. Plus, the staff was top notch. They were so friendly and make it joy to go to the restaurant because you know you'll be respected. I now know where to go when I need something to eat. read more

Our waitress was very friendly and the food was excellent! Atmosphere was also great. The reason it is 3 stars is because the service was slow but worst.... Janice the hostess was extremely rude. She either didn't want to be there or hated her job, or both! She was very unfriendly, when customers (beside myself) asked how long the wait was, all she can say was, "I don't know! I can never tell how long the wait would be." ....in a terrible tone. I watched her the whole night (while waiting for our table and while eating), NEVER ONCE did she smile. She looked MISERABLE! I am all about customer service, it is SO important to pretend you make the customers feel valuable... even if you could care less about the customers secretly. Especially, when you are the first face the customers see when they walked in, you are setting the tone to the place. I was ready to walk out after meeting Janice, but being a Friday night with 2 kids, we didn't have much choice and it was a new place to try for us. I don't know if I would go back, I can also get good food with better service at other places. read more

Went there with my brother and sister for lunch. A friend told me they had a terrible experience but I wanted to give it a try myself. We went in for lunch and it wasn't busy. I ordered a vegetable wrap and it contained different vege's then what was on the menu.. aside from that it was dripping in oil. It was seeping out the bottom and could barely be eaten. My sisters food was covered in oil as well. We had to ask the waitress for extra napkins and complained and she didn't seem to care very much at all. My brothers seafood was not good either. For a $60 lunch we were all very unhappy with what we got and the waitress/hostess didn't seem to feel bad or change our minds about the experience. Their breakfasts are unbelievable. All the freshet ingredients, great assortment, great service and coffee that is unlimited and always fresh. Can't believe that this place is not overflowing for breakfast! Great find and I think you should try it. Have gone for dinner and found that to be great too. We were just at your establishment. A very nice young man began to seat us and they needed to redress the table. We were asked to wait in the hallway between the restaurant and bar while they changed it. While we waited a woman came by upset that we were being seated and stormed off ( would later find out her name is Andrea). The woman who asked us to wait came back to inform us she would tell Andrea she was seating us and who comes around the corner but the woman who stormed off earlier seating someone else at the table we were shown and waiting for. She attempts to stick us at another table in the corner....we declined and walked out stating we are all set. There was no explanation or apology for why she gave our table away. It was RUDE and unprofessional. Perhaps if she made even the smallest attempt at customer service we would have stayed. We may try your restaurant again as we were looking forward to it. However, if we walk in the door and she is there - I will turn around and walk out again. read more

Two stars because the bartender was awesome. This is my third time here and the last. Have yet to have a good meal. Tonight was the last straw. Ordered "fresh" lobster roll, $19. It was so soggy and fishy it was inedible. I asked if it was canned/frozen and was told no. The bartender was gracious enough to take it off for which I was very grateful. Will not be going back. It's unfortunate, we don't have many choices in this area to begin with. read more

We were in the area at a Hanson field for weekend baseball, happened to see the Hitching Post while driving out and decided to stop in for lunch. Most everything about the place was good....except the service. Parking was easy, place was clean, the atmosphere was pleasant, nice selections on both the regular and special menus, and the food we ordered was good. Our waitress, although friendly did not take care of us. We didn't have a lot of time, not rushed, but just needed to keep things moving. When she came by for our drink order we wanted to order our meals with our ice tea, she said no that she'd take the drink order first and take food order when she brought the ice teas.......the ice teas were very slow in coming. While we were eating she stopped by and we asked for more ice tea, we each had a quarter of a glass left. She told us no that she would fill us up when our glasses were empty. When done with our lunches for probably 10 minutes, we had to stop another waitress to ask her to get our waitress to settle up. Our waitress came over and said she had forgotten about our ice tea refills and said we should have yelled for her. We never saw her to ask or 'yell' for her. No water was served, so we ate half of our meals with little to drink. The things that took away from it being an enjoyable lunch were things that we asked for, but were basically told not now, which turned out to be not ever, or seriously delayed. We have lived within about 5 minutes of the Hitching Post for over 20 years and, although we dine out frequently, we have only eaten there about 5 times, each time promising never to return. When we heard the Chef Ramsey had helped renew the restaurant we decided to give it another change. What a disappointment. We ordered the buffalo chicken that had a little heat but not much else. The wedge salad was good. However, the Rib-eye was a scrawny piece of fatty meat with two coagulated sauces on top, the 'demi glaze' was tasteless and no mushrooms were to be seen or tasted. The short ribs stroganoff was a appetizer portion of meat served on brown, tasteless egg noodles. So, one again we vowed never to return. This time we will keep our vow. read more

The atmosphere is nice, the food is OK, the service is horrible, and the hostess (owner?) needs to find a new job! You will never find a more rude, unhappy person walking into any establishment. You really feel like you are bothering everyone in there. I NEVER spend my money in those types of places. If they don't care about me, I don't care about them! It's a shame, it looks like it could be a nice place but don't be fooled. I think they were even on Gordon Ramsey with a restaurant makeover, I can't imagine the before picture? read more

Five of us all enjoyed our meals last night with dishes ranging from burgers to fish to pasta. It was my first time and I'll be back. There was a too--long lull in service at one point--hence the 4 stars. Overall though I was impressed. One or two more beers on tap (they have 3) would be great, especially with summer coming. read more

3.5 stars - big potential! Thumbs up to the "new" Old Hitching Post, cooking up Gordon Ramsay recipes after a makeover this summer. We went recently with a large group, and service was attentive, food was delivered quickly, and everyone enjoyed their meals. The seafood (haddock, lobster, crabcakes) was all fresh and well prepared. No complaints on the dishes - job well done! I will go back and hope folks in Hanson and surrounding towns support this restaurant. The one thing it needs now is customers and some life/buzz in the dining room - it was quiet on a recent weekend night. Try it out, I think you will like! read more

We love the hitching post - especially the tavern. Great menu - plenty of options and very reasonably priced. Dined there this evening - hubby had the meatloaf, daughter - the salmon and I had steak. I remember when the Hitching Post used to be the best restaurant in Hanson. But that was way back in 2005. Since the restaurant was sold to the new owners, I've been by once or twice but was always disappointed in the food and the service and never returned. I came back and had dinner there last week. Tried to get a modification from the modestly bland menu we were give, but was told we couldn't have the scallops the way we wanted them, but only the way they were on the menu. We ordered a key lime martini which tasted nothing like a key lime martini - sent it back. The food was still bland and we wished we had gone somewhere else. We had high expectations after learning Gordon Ramsay was going to turn it around. But we were all disappointed. Wish it was better. Really enjoyed the beer and wine dinners years ago, the friendly staff, and the great Sunday brunches. Why not go back to the way it was when the Hitching Post was a great restaurant? read more

I like this place a lot. I think the thing I like most about it is that it's never crowded, which is probably a bad thing for the restaurant, but I like it. I have never actually sat at a table, in the restaurant, only at the bar and at a high top in the bar area. I like the small bar area, and the food is pretty good. The specials are always changing, and they are usually very good. I have only had a few things from the actual menu, I would not recommend the steak tips, but the salads are good, and the sandwiches are tasty and large. I like the atmosphere in the bar, it's small, but not too small and there is Keno and a couple TVs. Like some of the other reviews, I will agree that this place is for older people, but if you want to go out somewhere uncrowded and quiet on a weekend night for a good dinner, this is the place to go. read more

i love this restaurant solely because my personal hero gordon james ramsay has visited them personally. i love that man with all of my achey breaky heart. cant remember what the food tastes like because every time i go in there i am overwhelmed with ramsay fueled emotions. hopefully one day this will change. if not i guess i dont mind. ramsay was the magnet that pulled me to this establishment and the mediocre or good food, i dont remember is what keeps me coming. that and the fond emotional connection to sir gordon that i feel when i am traipsing around this place. read more

The food is ok. It's a better choice for an area that lacks quality restaurants. The bar and dinning area are separate and in some nights they have a piano player to accompany dinner. The food is probably 3 1/2 to 4 depending what you order. Of your looking for a place to eat I would say this is the place compared to several other choices, but only because they wouldn't be better. read more
