Last night of vacation in the Lancaster PA area, we walked in to the Old Hickory Grill for supper. As we're traveling with friends and family, we had a large group of 16 people. This was not a problem for the restaurant, as they put us in a back room and strung together a number of tables for us. The decor is a little dated, but it's very clean. Everything about this restaurant reminded me of the old YOUR HOST restaurants which all closed in the 1970s. We were greeted by a very friendly waitress named Leola. We found her to be extremely kind, competent, and service oriented. She managed to wait on our entire table, and her attention to detail was flawless. The menu is a multi page affair, as is typical with Greek restaurants. I ordered a grilled Reuben with french fries, and a little cup of very delicious coleslaw. I was completely satisfied with this dinner. Found that it was extremely well priced. Others at our table started with a bowl of soup. Everyone enjoyed the soup course. Juicy burgers were served on soft brioche buns. Pot roast and mashed potatoes dinners were so beautifully plated, diner style. This is a very economical restaurant with a nice menu. This is a great diner! It's a little hidden so while usually busy, it almost never has a line - so that's a REAL treat on a Saturday or Sunday in Lancaster! The food is REALLY good! My pics are from two different visits because I forgot to write a review after visiting a few months ago. Service is good-- ESPECIALLY the ladies-- there are a couple fellows Who work here who seem scattered sometimes. The restaurant is clean with more of a diner vibe than the outside suggests. I have liked everything I have ordered there and the staff is always nice no matter how busy they are. This is the place to go for good food at affordable prices. You can have a nice lunch with a friend or go alone. I'm glad it's in Manheim Township. We have been going here for the last three years, and unfortunately, the service (or lack thereof) has gone downhill. More specifically, there's one server, a male, who is the owner's son, that delivers less than subpar service. Every time we have been seated in his section, he visits twice - to take your order, then to deliver your food - which every time is missing something (fruit, syrup, just SOMETHING). He never checks to see if your drinks need refilled or if the food turned out okay. Which thank goodness the woman server stopped by (not even her section) and refilled our drinks and asked if we needed anything. Olde Hickory Grill is a hidden gem! This local spot is always a great choice for breakfast, lunch or dinner. Their iced tea is a personal fave of mine! Hazam, our server, even brought me a pitcher of tea to enjoy during my meal. Stopped in for dinner this evening because it was way too hot outside to cook! Started off with an order of the mozzarella sticks. Great portion size, came out piping hot. I ordered a chicken salad sandwich for my main meal with their steak fries. The chicken salad was piled high on delicious multigrain toast. It's clearly made with fresh chicken breast, not anything canned. It's not drowning in mayo either, which is another issue I run into! Definitely one of the best chicken salads I've had around. The steak fries were cooked perfectly! Not too over done, but not undercooked and floppy like so many other places' fries. One of the best things about this place is the service. Hazam, our server, was extremely attentive, anticipated our needs, and was very friendly and welcoming. He encouraged us to take our time, enjoy our meals, and not feel rushed. This has easily become one of my absolute favorite places. Every meal here is great! Everything I've tried here is delicious, homemade, and a great value. I will definitely be back. If I could give more than 5 stars, I would!!! read more

Was here today (a Saturday) and although they were busy, there was no line to wait for seating. There were 5 of us, and we come with some regularity. The waiter took our orders, came back twice to clarify (somehow chicken salad club morphed into Cobb salad club? Never heard of it) 4 meals were brought out correctly, but one was "being rushed ' after we asked about it twice. When it finally came, the rest of us were more than half finished. When the checks arrived, we asked about a discount or to have that meal comped In the end 10% (less than $2) discount was applied Absolutely not acceptable! read more

My plain French toast was just right. Not overcooked but juicy and tasty. Their breakfast sausage is tasty and cooked thru without overcooking. Coffee is rich and plentiful. Service is friendly and quick. read more

OMG...Comfort food for sure!! Plates passing by with lots of gravy, potatoes, cheese, etc...all piled high. We opted for breakfast food at lunch time. Delicious feta cheese omelet. The feta was creamy and one of the best. Home fries were the good kind...thin strips of potatoes and lots of them. So good. We both enjoyed our large breakfasts. Filled us for the entire day. Our food seemed to take a bit long...had 2 cups of coffee while waiting. The place is a no frills kinda place. Nothing fancy. It seemed to do a good business but a lot of places were closed Monday of Labor Day...still I think it can get busy. Prices seemed very reasonable for the quantity of food. Talk about yum! Came here before our drive home from Lancaster to Philly. We were seated right away and the staff were very friendly. We checked out Yelps reviews before coming and everyone were raving about to hidden gem. I ended up ordering a turkey bacon club on Rye bread which came with potato chips and got a root beer. My friend got the shrimp Po boy and a sprite. We both got are meals very quickly and soon our table was quiet from us chowing down on the food. The sandwich was so tasty and the bacon was so crispy, just the way I like it! The portion was huge too! Maybe I eat like a bird or eat way less than I used to but I couldn't finish the club! I had leftovers to take home with me. My friend tore up his sandwich and was surprised that the shrimp was so good. The potato chips that came with the meal were also so tasty and I wish they had them here in Philly. I normally don't eat a lot of chips, but i inhaled these. I actually saw they have a website and will see if they ship here, cause they are just that good! The waitress was also fast with everything we needed and very friendly. My Mom and I found this place after a diner we tried to go to was closed. Olde Hickory Grill is now my favorite breakfast spot! Our waitress was very nice, she filled my Moms coffee cup about four times without us ever having to look for her. She paid attention and kept coming over when she noticed her cup was low. Everyone employed there was very nice, my Mom walks with a cane and when she was on her way to the restroom, employees moved things out of her way to make it easier for her. The woman at the door helped all of the elderly patrons and parked their walkers by the door for them after they sat. On top of all of this, breakfast was fantastic and very (VERY) reasonably priced. We were pleasantly surprised. We will definitely be going back and I encourage others to visit as well! read more

Pancakes came out w no syrup and took asking for it twice before we got it. Coffee took a couple askings for milk. Oatmeal comes plain. They charge $1 per fruit. Most places charge that for a mixture of strawberries, bananas and blueberries. The gyro was very good which is why I gave it 2 stars. read more

The staff was very attentive and prompt. The bottomless cup of coffee was appreciated and quite good. I ordered the Cajun chicken and it was delightfully seasoned and very close to authentic Cajun. Everything tasted great, and was a generous portion, even the salad. The plate was literally sizzling when served so it's temperature was hot as it should be. My only complaint, and this seems to be true of many restaurants, I was asked if I needed cream with my ordered coffee, I said no, but they brought cream anyways. My associate told me they had relatively new owners, though I can't verify that. We arrived at about 12:10PM on a Saturday. We waited 10 to 15 minutes before getting a menu and another 35 minutes after placing an order for a sandwich/fries plus an omelet. The sandwich and fries were both heavily salted, particularly the fries. The omelet was overdone. I had two bites of the sandwich and two fries before stopping My associate ate about 1/2 of the omelet. I told the waitress how bad the food was. I paid for it at the register, left an undeservedly large tip, and then sought out the owner. I told the owner I thought that might be the worst meal I had in several years, that I was about to go elsewhere to get some food, and that everything was loaded with extra salt. I think the owner was surprised at my statements. I immediately left, not giving the owner an opportunity to address the situation or make it right. Needless to say, I will not be returning even though I live nearby. If you try them, I strongly suggest you tell them not to add extra salt in large quantities to everything. read more

This is a great little low-profile diner, well worth stopping in whether you live in the area or are travelling through. I had the chicken souvlaki pita, which was large, fresh and delicious, along with THE.BEST.SWEET.POTATO.FRIES.EVER. Ever. Little clouds of deliciousness. More than worth the $1 upcharge from regular fries, which I suppose are also good, but really...still dreaming of those sweet potato fries. Service was prompt and friendly. read more

As a part-time GH delivery driver, I frequent this place often, and wanted to try it for breakfast. I ordered the Ham & Cheese omelette, Belgian waffles, fruit cup, and a side of bacon extra crispy. The omelette came with hash brows, and toast. I had no issue with the taste of the food, everything was seasoned correctly, and really had a good experience. I think since I chose delivery, that was to blame for the sogginess of my bacon, toast, etc. if I would've ate in the restaurant, there would have been no issue. I will definitely eat in next time, and I do recommend this place for a breakfast spot. read more

The "son" of the owner up front is a piece of shit. Don't ever go to this place unless you want hands in your face and pens thrown at you. I've never experienced such unprofessional service in my life. That owner should disown his son because he's gonna drag this company to the ground. Do not eat here. Ontop of all this our food was cold and didn't come out until about an hour after we order and our table did not get visited at all by our waitress. Came in the morning for breakfast with my parents, husband and daughter. I wasn't too impressed with the overall service or the mediocre food. One of the things that I love about eating at restaurants in Lancaster is the feeling of home, as if you're part of the family as soon as you enter. For the small dining area that we were in, I didn't get that vibe, it was more of a sit down, eat your food and get out. It felt uncomfortable and awkward. I have been here a couple of times for breakfast on the weekend and it has been good. They have a large menu with all of the typical breakfast options, as well as some more creative items like stuffed French toast. On both occasions I had pancakes, bacon, and the home fries. The pancakes were fluffy, hot, and fairly large. I'd recommend asking to have the home fries somewhat "well done" so that they're a little crispy and textured. Otherwise they're a little on the soft and bland side. Service is friendly and very quick. This seems to be a popular spot on the weekends for breakfast, so don't be surprised if there is a bit of a wait. read more

This is a cute little restaurant that has grown since I first started going here. This is my go to place for breakfast. All the staff is great! The food is very good too! As a family we tend to go out for breakfast every weekend. We recently discovered this place although we have lived within walking distance for the last 5 years. Menu is large, service is great, portions are very large and quality is better than an average diner. Food is seasoned very well and they accommodate special requests. Nice place, friendly service. I've only eaten there once and the experience was a good one. This place has a restaurant look and feel with a diner menu and prices. I had the spinach pie which was excellent. It came with a Greek salad that had huge chunks of feta in it. Sweet potato fries were good but a little overcooked. To the reviewer calling the owner's "son" a piece of shit - I was standing in line trying to pay for my meal (delicious by the way) when this lady storms in the door, cuts in front of everyone standing in line and starts acting belligerent, screaming about pancakes (she was confused about the number of pancakes after she already paid for them. Like, they're pancakes, it's not rocket science). She was cursing in front of the children that were standing around and trying to say that he split the bill incorrectly. The host tried to calm her down but then she started taking things on the counter and throwing them and screaming profanities. I personally thought she was going to attack some of the wait staff, and I was worried for myself and some of the elderly people waiting in line. The host promptly took action and escorted her out of the restaurant, told her to remain outside, and came back in and took care of the rest of us waiting with a calm demeanor. Professional? Yes. Calm in the face of the storm? Like the Buddha himself. This woman then decided to call the cops because someone slightly brown infringed upon her rights to be horrible to wait staff in America. Everything ended pretty smoothly, the cops came and rolled their eyes and told Karen to go home. I can not recommend this place enough. Will eat here again. 10/10. read more

Just average, good if you live close by. I had an omelette, which was rather large. The downside is that the eggs were browned on the bottom and the cheese is the grocery store shredded cheddar which is sprinkled on top. The home fried were bland.
