The pizza is great, but the combination of being unable to provide custom orders along with most DoorDash orders being wrong in some capacity is astounding. When I order a Prosciutto Arugula Pizza , it came in pieces - the arugula and lemon dressing came in separate containers, which was fine, but not as advertised and too, not the experience delivered in store. The most recent time I bought it they forgot the lemon dressing and arugula entirely. You people are incredible but it seems like a 50/50 shot whether or not I get the actual experience I wanted when in store. The ambiance is incredible, though, and when outdoor seating is available, it's really nice and beautifully lit, but I would never recommend ordering anything from here, because - while a valid thing to behind in, it seems they're not really ready for the whole DoorDash business that's boomed in recency. read more

I did not taste the Angry Bee Keeper because I don't eat spicy food but my husband and son liked it. The room is large and since it was a beautiful day it was open to the outside patio. The crust was crispy and perfect. Toppings were plentiful. Staff circulated and kept everything very clean. We did go for lunch and so it ain't as busy. I hear it's crowded on the weekend. read more

Old Scratch is a casual pizza joint with a small menu and friendly, fast service. Their pizzas are thin crust with robust, flavorful sauces and fresh mozzarella. This place is hit or miss. Sometimes the house salad is bomb and sometimes everything kind of falls flat. Young staff that generally don't care very much. It's pretty much self service, you order at the counter, someone brings your food, but you get your own drinks and refills. And good luck trying to get a box when you're done. I know where the boxes are by the kitchen by this point because no one will bring you one and I have to get it myself. I'm not sure why the tip suggestions are so high when it's not a full service restaurant. The suggestions are 20%, 25%, and 28%. My total was 24 dollars and I chose custom tip for 4$. The cashier was a young pretty brunette girl with a mullet. She said 'cheap' under her breath and then said 'oh sorry'. In a passive aggressive way. My friend had just been diagnosed with acute leukemia and I was in a bit of a daze so I couldn't really process what she'd said til later. Very rude and inappropriate. read more

Old scratch pizza is a good choice for pizza near downtown dayton. It has a busy vibe - even on weekdays. It's open pretty late too for Dayton - 9pm on weekdays. The pizza style is kind of like a neapolitan style pizza with the thick outer crust, thin inner crust, and tomato+mozz balls. I like the new spins on the flavors of these pizzas. I got the angry beekeeper pizza which has a drizzle of a sweet honey sauce. I think the sauce adds a lot to the pizza. I really liked the taste of it. All toppings seemed fresh. I believe I have also gotten the meat pizza which was good. There are also some other interesting pizza flavors. The only thing about this pizza which was kind of weird was the consistency of the dough on the inside. I felt like the dough in the middle was just a little bit too undercooked - it became a floppy pizza. I prefer it to be a little bit crispier. I also wish the sauce was more generous. Easily some of the best pizza I've ever had. We had the deluxe and the pepperoni as well as the margarita and all three were delicious pizzas. The side ceasar salad was incredibly good and so was the cauliflower. WOW. We arrived around 1pm on a Sunday afternoon following a visit to the US national air force museum. It was super busy but we found room for four of us in a few minutes. We'd make the trek over to Dayton again to get some of this pizza. God it was good. read more

My cousin suggested this local pizza place for lunch. The restaurant is casual, with good wood fired pizza as well as salads and beer. Seating is self arranged. You order at the counter, are given a number sign, and they bring over the order as it is ready. Seating is various lengths of picnic style tables. We ordered as a group: a couple of salads, roasted cauliflower and a few pizzas. Everything was better than average. The salads had more veggies than other restaurant salads, and the dressing appeared to be made in house. I'm usually not a huge fan of cauliflower but I liked this version, theirs was well seasoned and roasted with a romanesco sauce. We had some Margherita pies and a Brooklyn. Best vegan pizza I have ever had! I have a chronic disease that keeps me from eating certain chemicals along with all dairy. The service was awesome! I asked to see the ingredients for the cheeses used and they let me see the bag of cheese and it's nutritional/ingredient info! Anyways, back the the food: The pizza was beautifully cooked with amazing leoparding on the crust! The sauce and vegan cheese came together perfectly to form a consistent but complex flavor! My friend comes here on occasion and it's good!! It has Blaze Pizza vibes but I'm not sure if you can build your own. The pizzas are personal size but very filling! We all got different ones to share: I got Prosciutto arugula (a white pizza with exactly what it says it has), my older sis got the Shroom, my other friends got the Margherita, and Angry Beekeeper. It was all very good! I was stuffed after about 5 slices. It's socially distanced in here. Just a few tables. It was raining but they do have outdoor seating. Old Scratch is wonderful. Talk to any local or long term resident of Dayton, and Old Scratch be included as a must try restaurant. Their pizza is a neapolitan style pizza with several unique and delicious flavors. The Angry Beekeeper is my favorite and includes: fresh mozzarella, basil, spicy salami, and house-made honey. The contrast between the sweet and spicy is fantastic. I can't believe I'm saying this but... they also have delicious salads (I'm not a salad person, but even I crave their applewood bacon ranch salad). Despite the usual crowds that frequent this restaurant, their workers are quick to bring your food. You sit at the picnic table style seating. Our kids love the "free" soft serve ice cream. I say free because they won't directly ask you for money when you order one, but you are encouraged to donate to Cones for a Cause in exchange. It is a great place to go for almost any occasion. After multiple people recommending Old Scratch Pizza, I had to try it. The inside of the restaurant had a very industrial feel. You order pizza at the counter and then if you want a beer, you order it right next to the front counter at the bar. I thought this was an odd setup, but didn't have any big issue with it. Their pizza menu is pretty unique, but also have the traditional cheese or pepperoni. The pizza I ordered was the Sophie Mae, which one of their white pizzas with red onion jam, applewood-smoked bacon, fresh mozzarella, romano. All of their pizzas come in 12" pies. I would say that overall, my pizza was good and the ingredients seemed pretty fresh. I felt that the red onion jam was a little too sweet for me and wish it was a little more onion-y than jam-y. They have a pretty good selection of local and imported beers and a menu of signature cocktails. I ordered the Seventh Son Lemongrass Wit, which was really really good. It was a very light and refreshing beer that I feel would be a good one to drink at the pool on a summer day. I'd come back, but probably order one of the more traditional pizzas and see how that stacks up to others that I've had. read more

What's not to love about old scratch pizza?! I love to go to the Patterson restaurant as it's OG and the ambiance is pleasing. I've eaten at the tables, outside, and I have also eaten at the bar and all three places are great. The only negative is sometimes it can get very loud when it's busy. The service is outstanding I like how you order when you first walk in and then take a seat and I like how the drink order is separate at the bar. Had the end-of-semester holiday get-together for the Hanley Sustainability Institute last week and I was so excited it was at Old Scratch. I have only ever heard good things about this restaurant so was pretty excited at the chance to try it for myself. We had a private room behind the bar and it was perfect with warming tables so the food wouldn't get cold when it was brought out. They also had a separate table for food allergy pizzas so they could be differentiated. I had the cauliflower which was pretty tasty. While I am not a big cauliflower but the one from here with its sauce might change my mind. I also had a couple of slices from various pizzas with my favorite being the one drizzled in hot honey (they weren't labeled so I am not sure of the name). The pizzas aren't very big but the staff did a great job of bringing out pizzas in rotations so anyone hungry always had options. I didn't get any beer or cocktails this go around but I will definitely be back soon. read more
