Members of my party had a burger, another had ahi tuna ("tsunami burger"), I had a special teriyaki chicken breast with grilled pineapple & onions on a brioche roll and they were all delicious. Visiting area and thought the Brewpub would be a local place to try. The brick building was unique and loved the appearance. The menu had a nice variety and we did like the creative names of the food. I will say we were disappointed in the food. The Ruben was tasty but the bread was soggy. The steak sandwich with blue cheese and horseradish was not a good flavor combination. Might give it a second chance if we return to the area. read more

The Old Mill Brewpub has become a staple in Lexington. The service is very friendly and the food is good. They tend to have some great specials and the menu has daily varieties as well. I'm a fan of local restaurants and enjoy going back to this one regularly. I think overall, the fries could be improved (like real PUB FRIES!), but other than that, I'm a happy customer. PS! The beer menu is definitely worth a good look - as well as their in-house brews. read more

This was a 5 star meal! For starters, this place is cool. Located at an Old Mill, so not just a name. I had the crab soup for an appetizer, and it is the best I can remember. I had the "Missile Crisis" Cuban sandwich (lol) and it was awesome! My partner had a burger and she said it was up there with the best she's had. They have a great selection of beer as well. What a great surprise!! Don't let the hundred year old exterior fool you. The interior was modern, beautiful and clean, especially the restrooms. The menu was diverse and the portions were plenty. The bread was fresh on both the burger and the Cuban sandwich. Probably, the best Cuban in the Columbia area. The fried green tomatoes are like mama used to make them--crispy and tart. The french fries were fresh cut and cooked perfectly. The margaritas were great. They have a large selection of draft , but still carry Bud Light in the bottle. 9/24/16: I was just biotching about moving to the friggin bar food capital of the world, but the Old Mill Brew Pub takes it to the next level. Start with a craft brew. They're all so beefy; I can only drink one #lightweight. The crab pretzel helps me with the alcohol though. About the entrees, I struggle with deciding among the Southern BLT, Elvis Pressley, and the Hella Gouda burger. Desserts are very respectable. Good locale. Plenty of parking. 4/27/18: Demotion from 5 to 1 star because the outdoor dining area is clearly marked NO SMOKING, but was told that guests routinely do blow an excess of 70 known carcinogens, "but smokers sit near the edge of the deck." WTF? Why post the sign and not enforce it? One classy lady was smoking next to a baby - in a car seat. read more

My hubby and I had been wanting to try this place out for a while, but hadn't been able to due to one reason or another. My parents wanted to take us out to eat and said they'd been there several times and so looked forward to going. We were seated on the patio and half the chairs at the table were broken, not wobbly but broken, also the tables around us. Not to mention the doorway that leads to a 10 drop that's not blocked off. There were several kids out there and I kept watching hoping none would fall out with their running around. Skipping to the food, we both had swapped a side for a cup of their 'Homemade' she-crab soup. First of all we never asked for them to be served as appetizers, so we got the soup while everyone else at the table had nothing. Second, we've made homemade she-crab soup, and this was nothing of the sort. It was thick and goopy, and the 'crab' was all minced and hardly recognizable. We thought they may had added carrots to it but quickly recognized the 'Krab' for what it was. When the main dishes came out hubby had got the Fish and Shrimp, as recommended by my dad. Granted it came with a large portion of tilapia, but it was severely underseasoned. The shrimp was decent, but was oddly close to the quality and size to the Food Lion shrimp that was on sale that week that we had cooked at home. I ordered the Brimstone burger. I was never asked how I wanted it done, so it came out well done. I never eat fresh burgers above a medium. I could tell there was bread crumbs in it, as it had the texture of a meatball. The 2 jalapeno poppers on top were obviously the Farm Rich brand cheddar poppers. Most homemade poppers use cream cheese and even when it uses cheddar it's not a grainy gloop of cheese. Not to mention my burger only came with one side so when they prematurely brought my soup I only had a burger to eat when everyone had their orders. Now the service. The waitress did not check back once, never refilled our drinks, when hubby asked for cocktail sauce for his fish and shrimp when the food came out she never brought it back, and when we asked for 2 boxes to go she only brought one. All in all a horrible experience and definitely not worth the money. read more

I'd been wanting to come here and try it since hearing about if from a friend. My wife and I decided to try it last Saturday for lunch, arriving around 1:00PM . First, the atmosphere: The place wasn't crowded at all, so we apparently picked a good time to come. Weather was hot and we decided to sit out on the back deck. They also have a screened in porch with tables if you prefer not to eat out in the open. I'd heard that the restaurant is on a lake but I don't know if I would call it a lake. It looked more like a man made pond to me. There was sort of a musty smell that came off the water on Saturday. Not sure if that is normal or was due to the excessive heat of the day. The "lake" basically has dirt all around it and isn't very attractive, so the ambience isn't quite what I expected. I must say the inside of the restaurant is very nice. A nice bar and a lot of seating. We decided to just split the Elvis Presley sandwich. This was the Prime rib sandwich with horseradish sauce, blue cheese and sauteed carmelized onions. My wife and I both thought it was excellent. It came with friies and they also were very good. We also tried the "brewschetta". We make homemade classic bruschetta all the time in the traditional method so were sort of surprised when the "Brewschetta" was brought to the table. It diidn't look as appetizing as the normal Italian bruschetta. It was on toasted bread and had tomatoes, walnut pesto, and what looked like shredded mozzarella cheese melted on it. To our surprise it was very good, better than what we expected. We've decided to try making that the next time we do bruschetta. The menu was extensive and we would liked to have tried some of the other items. I will definitely go back. Not sure if I'll be going on a Friday night or so as I can see how this could be a popular place on weekend evenings. I would have given it five stars if it wasn't for the lake effect! Sadly have to update my review from before. Things have gone downhill recently, dont have any idea why. The pond has been drained for months which was one of the main reasons we went other than their hummus which now never tasted good. We gave it three chances after the first bad experience and I guess we are just done now. We had such good experiences last summer and it makes me sad that this place just isn't at all what it once was. Every time we go now the hummus is served bland and not even blended fully. Like ever. Lot's of potential, but LOT'S of work to do. My wife, daughter, parents and I went there for Mother's Day, understanding this is one of the busiest restaurant days of the year. Unfortunately, it didn't appear that they understood this. When we arrived, we were told that there was a 30 minute wait, which is fine on Mother's Day without a reservation. But we later realized this wasn't because the restaurant was full, but rather because the restaurant was short-staffed and overwhelmed by a couple large parties. So they'd requested the delay in seating new tables in the mostly empty restaurant so they could catch up. They never did. We arrived at 1:30 and didn't get out until 4pm. Every single thing was ridiculously slow, even drink orders, so I can't blame the kitchen for everything. I've learned this place has only been open since February, which is one of the reason I'm giving two stars instead of one. But even newbies should know to staff up and be ready for a busy Mother's Day lunch shift. The other reason I'm giving three stars is because the food was good, the beer selection was very good, and the ambiance and view of the pond was the saving grace for our afternoon. If they can figure out how to run a restaurant it can be great. But my wife, daughter and I are visiting from Chicago. My mother is really upset about it, and would give zero stars if possible. We have always tried to support local restaurants and breweries. That's what drew us here. We have left here several times because of the long waits and slow service. Tonight we gave it our last opportunity. The evening started with my fifteen minute wait at the bar without any service. Luckily our table was ready. We sat down to our table and began our order. As my daughter ordered Fish and Chips she was told there was no French Fries or Fried potatoes. I asked if they were out of potatoes and they said their fryer was broken. But wait she ordered fried fish. "Well it just takes a long time for our one fryer to work". So no French Fries? "well it will take a really long long time for that". Oh and no glasses so drinking out of styrofoam cups. This was the classic experience here and that is why we won't be returning here. My advice is to get your food and brews elsewhere-even if it is a chain. read more

I've been going here for a few weeks every Thursday now as they have started a trivia night. They have great food, plenty of well-made, reasonably priced, craft beer and quality service. Trivia starts at 7 on Thursday nights but I normally go and enjoy a round of drinks and an appetizer, their loaded fries are phenomenal, before we get started with the first rounds. Their burgers are a great and filling meal, but if you want to change it up, I recommend the buffalo chicken sandwich. They're staff are really friendly and we have our "own table" and specific waitress we look for every Thursday night. I strongly recommend them for a great meal in Lexington! read more

Positives: Our waiter was really sweet, and totally apologetic about the delays in seating and our food being delivered. He may have won me over in the first 5 minutes, however, when he gave me a funny look when I told him I'd like a Coca Cola (while my hubby was having a beer sampler), and I had to tell him I'm 8 months pregnant. He said that the fact I was wearing black hid the pregnancy, but I know I'm the size of a whale at moment, so he made me feel good about it. This is the first Brew Pub we have ever been to where the person getting the sampler gets to choose which beers they want to sample. I think that is totally awesome, more places should do this! I think that the idea of the laminated circles and the chinese pencil works okay for marking the beer selections, but the pencil proved difficult for my husband to write with, and he had to peel a few layers off to get it to work. Suggestion for the owners: I know there are 2 more expensive beers on draft which you do not include in the sampler, due to the high cost of these beers. Perhaps you could offer these beers and just charge a "premium" to have these included. IE, if you order the Lindemann's Framboise, it would be an extra $2 the sampler. The food tasted great. I really liked the french fries, which were cooked to perfection, and I loved the fact that they were salty. My Blarney Stone Reuben was delicious, although a few pieces of meat were a bit fatty... I cut around those, but that's to be expected with corned beef. Negatives: The wait. We arrived at 6:45. Being 8 months pregnant, and having been just told that there would be a 30 minute wait, I asked where the ladies' room was. In walking back through the restaurant to the ladies' room (which I must say was incredibly clean!), I noticed that there were MANY, if not MOST tables open. There was a baby shower going on in another room, but knowing a baby shower was booked, I believe that the manager of the facility should have adequately staffed the restaurant to be able to handle the baby shower and dinner patrons. We were not seated until 7:15... which is exactly 30 minutes... when there were plenty of empty tables! The waiter took about 15 minutes to bring out my husband's beer sampler after we ordered it, and when he did, only 4 of the beers were there. He said that one of the kegs was being changed out, and he did not want to hold it up any longer. The 5th beer was delivered not even 5 minutes later, and I don't really hold that against the waiter. The time of night it was, though, keg changes should be completed in a much timelier fashion. I've worked at a catering hall in the past, and if it took us 20 minutes to change out a keg, there would be crowds of rowdy party goers rioting! We placed our order for food, and we did not order anything terribly complicated. I ordered the Reuben, my husband ordered a grilled chicken sandwich (I forget what it's called on the menu). It took another 30 minutes for our food to arrive. I had to remind my husband not to drink all of the beer before the food got to the table, so that he would not be drinking on an empty stomach... and by the time the food arrived, the beers he saved were no longer cold. The seasonal vegetables were zucchini and squash and I found them quite delicious, however, my husband had ordered them, and he incorrectly assumed that seasonal vegetables would be broccoli and carrots. Not the fault of Old Mill, but it was a negative, as these are not vegetables he will eat, and I had to share my French Fries with him and take his veggies. Perhaps if the waiter had let us know what veggies were in season, or if we had asked, this could have been avoided. I've never asked what seasonal veggies were included at any other restaurant, though, and I have usually been served broccoli and carrots. ___________ All in all, my rating would be a 5 for the taste of the food, the pricing, friendliness of wait staff, and beer selection. Timeliness would be rated at a 1. There were too many open tables to have had to wait as long as we did. Other reviews state that the owners need to appropriately staff the facility, and I have to agree. We visited on a Saturday night. There should have been more staff, and especially with a party booked and live music. Averaging out the 5 and the 1, I give this place a 3. I think I would visit again, to see if staffing recommendations are taken into account. My husband liked the Old Mill Brew Pub's on-site brewed beer, and he had all three on tap as part of his sampler. I know this is a relatively new restaurant/bar, and I would like to see the owners learn from these reviews, and really turn this into a great place to go for a beer and some food on a Saturday night. It's not going to happen overnight. I will update my review/rating when I visit again if I see an improvement. read more

We came for lunch today and was seated by a child around 12 years old. My first impression was not good but he was a good kid, polite. Our server was of age and did a great job. I had the fish platter which turned out to be mini fried shrimps and beer battered cod. The batter was great but the fish was previously frozen and mushy and not a flaky cod I was expecting. I was also expecting a medium sized shrimp and not popcorn sized. Fries were the same, mushy and undercooked but seemed homemade. The kids chicken fingers were excellent, crispy and flavorful. The wife's prime rib sandwich was good. The restaurants IPA was excellent and they have a good beer selection of domestic micro brews. Considering the IPA is 7.1% the $5 price was appropriate, however the price wasn't reflected on the menu. read more

First time visiting this place since it opened several years ago (had visited when it was still the Cotton Grill several years ago). Food was your typical food that you would expect to get at a Pub-type of restaurant, but I'm sure the focus is more on the beer selection. I'm not sure of the exact name given to this, but several people in my party had go teen what appeared to be a sampler of 5 beers that they have on tap (but I believe it's only a certain selection of beers). It looks like there is an ample selection of beers, if you are a beer lover. It does appear that there is ample seating inside and outside (I think). And there is a small section set off the main lobby area just for the bar if you want to sit at bar (rather than having the bar right off the main dining area. Since I hadn't been here pre-flood, I'm not sure how much damage the restaurant sustained inside (I know they were not closed all that long for repairs), but from where we were sitting, you couldn't tell that there was any flood damage inside the restaurant. They even updated their menu post flood and one of their burgers is named after Hurricane Juaquin - partly responsible for the flooding last October. read more

We went to Old Mill on Saturday for an early dinner. My son ordered the macaroni and cheese burger, served with French Fries. He said it was delicious. It was a generous size and the fries were plentiful. My mother and I ordered the shrimp and grits, and the portions were huge for that as well. Delicious, and had take home for the 1/2 we didn't eat. Our drinks were always full, never had to ask for a refill. Water bottle was brought to the table so we didn't have to ask for water. Cokes were refilled for my son without having to ask. The beer selection is great, and their house-brews can be quite good, but the food is consistently poor quality. Go for the beer; go for the cool building; go for the pond view; but, go for dinner somewhere else. At best, the food is edible, though it is likely only edible after a beer or two. These folks do not even get salsa right (it tastes store bought, but store bought plus a pound of sugar), and what they call a panini isn't even pressed (slightly toasted though, but just slightly). The spinach dip is basically mayo and cream cheese (just guessing, but that is what it tastes like) with a hint of spinach, a very small hint. The fries are usually good. The blue cheese dressing is good. The Italian dressing is not even as good as Kraft (and that isn't good, folks). The Creme Brûlée I once ordered? Tasted like Jello vanilla pudding. They didn't even bother pretending to burn sugar on top. The beer and staff are the reasons we go, but I really wish they would step their game up in the food department. My mother & I stopped by for lunch the other day because she was craving shrimp and grits. Needless to say, after looking over the awesome menu, she decided to go with "The Elvis" sandwich. She was so happy with it! I ordered the buffalo chicken sandwich, and it was so-so. Their blue cheese crumbles are so strong and delicious-but I'm a major cheese foodie. Some people may not enjoy its boldness. We ordered their spinach dip & fried calamari for an appetizer and they were both delicious. I could have had the dip as my entire meal, and would have left completely happy. I've been to the Old Mill many times in the past but this time I went for trivia night. A group of friends and I attended trivia night, which is on every Thursday night, and it started at 7pm. The parking lot is shared with many other businesses so you might have trouble finding a spot to park but we had no trouble getting a table for dinner. We weren't in a rush to order and the waitress didn't rush us because she knew we were there for trivia. I ended up ordering the Old Mill Burger. The burger was huge and it had onion rings, egg, and a few other things - needless to say it was yummy. Their fries are amazing too because they make them so crispy. Prices are normal - around the 8 to 12 dollar range for an entrée. Service was pretty awesome too over the 2 hours we stayed at the restaurant I'm pretty sure our waitress asked us if we needed anything probably about 15 times. The best part of the night was that our team won trivia and we ended up getting a $40 gift card to come back. Our team is interested in making this a Thursday tradition and coming back not only for the food but also the entertainment! read more

I bring my employees here on occasion because it's local, good and they accept my AMEX. I tried a couple new menu items during my last visit. The new Gyro Chicken is an Awesome dish! I also tried the new pretzel with crab - yum! I like looking into the hole that was the lake and the ambience is good. I have never had a bad meal here. I have had to ask for different chips here to keep them in their toes but everything else has always been on point. I have probably been here 10 times and always know I will be back. My employee loved the new burger with Gouda and the toga sandwich is also good. The comment about salt is bs -it is a brewery - give me a break. Local and good and worth a visit. This is a solid four star for brews and food. This is a somewhat hidden gem in lexington and something very much needed given there are not many places in lexington with such selection of beers. They have a great selection on tap including Green Man, Foothills, left hand, Holy City, the Athens breweries and the standard craft brew fare. They just recently started brewing in house. The double IPA was fantastic. As far as food goes the Cuban is my standby but the other sandwiches are great. Appetizers are ok. The place has a ton of potential but the bar area is really small. All in all a great place to go for a beer and a sandwich. read more
