Higher Ground is a favorite amongst Chapin locals and our little nieces. There's outdoor seating for nice days, a built in playground for the kiddos and a putting green for the adults that still want to be kids but won't fit on the slide :D The food is good. Not 'blow your mind fantastic', but solid and always consistent. We love to come here on afternoons where we just need to get out of the house and relax in the sunshine. Interesting little spot for live music, crafted drinks and uniques foods to enjoy. Menu has nice selection of varied entrees to met everyone's desire. My pick was Dis Won with fried green tomatoes. Burger was cooked perfect, nicely sized and tasty but was a little too saucy. Tomatoes were well seasoned, cooked nicely and very good. The star was dessert, carrot cake, was moist and sooo tasty. Cute little toadside place with lots of character. Had high hopes after reading the reviews and seeing the lunch crowd. The burgers are quite pricey $14-$18. Plus $1 for cheese and $2 for pimento cheese The burger was tough , dense and dry , cooked medium . Not much fat in the burger at all to make it juicy or tender. For an extra $2 you could hardly recognize.the pimento cheese and it was no addition to the dry burger Fries are crispy and fresh with a unique dusting of seasoning. Anyway, the food was okay; however, they forgot all the drinks, and they were soda, so they were disappointing. My family was there last week. We each ordered a burger and we each were asked how we would like it cooked. My stepdaughter stated well done and my wife and I stated medium well. All of our burgers came out medium-rare. The ground beef had no flavor. The only flavor were the toppings put on top of the ground beef. Sonic burgers have more flavor and cost less. Cute spot in Chapin that hit the spot on a Friday night. We had the Fern Gully, Hot Mess and Totes Ma Goats. The burgers were all good but would've been better with a different bun. It tasted a bit stale which was a let down. However the flavors of our burgers made up for it. The fries were fresh and the beer selection was decent. Went there Sunday for a burger for me and nap for my husband. Waited 45 minutes for our food. Everything was cold, burner was dry and tasteless. The delay was based on waiting for my husband Bach but somehow that was cold too. Even though they generously comped our food( I left a very large tip) we won't go back. It isn't worth it. What's not to love. This place has tons of outside parking, lots of different seating options from booths to patio seating to tables. Thier wall art is amazing. It is customized images of thier menu items made into movie and advertisment posters. Very clever! I think the men's golf cleaner image across from the bathrooms is a personal fav. The staff has always been amazing. Huge menu with lots of burger options. I had the slider set last time and it was perfect. I got a little of everything I wanted. Service is also very fast for the food being so fresh. The biggest issue I have is with cleanliness and service. We went a few weeks ago and the floor was soaking wet through the whole middle of the restaurant. Waitresses have been amazing but when you get there and 9 tables are empty and you have a 30 minute wait, people will decide to go somewhere else. read more

We had a long wait but the wait list was updated live through Yelp--which was cool. We could see our wait time getting shorter. The service was fantastic--from the front of the house, the bartender, the young man who seated us and explained the item from the test kitchen (hot honey burger), our server Jenna...very nice and attentive. Our burgers were so delicious--I especially enjoyed the char on the burger--it really added a great flavor. The sweet potato fries were the best I think I've ever had. My husband enjoyed his IPAs. I had the char burger and wing chips and my wife had the fried chicken ranch flip (quesadilla) with wing chips. Both were cooked to perfection and the chips were the best we've had anywhere. My boyfriend and I both went with the char-cheese burgers (essentially a classic burger with cheese, tomato, onion, pickle, and lettuce). What a cool little burger place I love the outside set up! The inside looked like a decent amount of space, and so is the outside with the turf, the put put and slide. Love that it was covered too. The customer service was great. The hostess and the waitress was nice. Ordering was seamless and the menu had more options than I expected. We ordered the traditional burgers, cheese fries, regular fries, and the kids chicken tenders. The fries fresh were good. The cheese fries wasn't as fresh by the time they arrived to the table which affected the taste. The burger was good. I enjoyed it as you can see. It was cooked well, the bun was good and fresh to taste as well as the cheese. The bacon was pretty good and cooked well. The chicken tenders were really good. I probably would order the chicken tenders again. The burger was a good size and I would probably order the burger again as well. We were on vacation and looking for a family friendly place to grab a meal. Higher Ground is a family friendly burger joint, that also has a few non-burger offerings. My pet peeve for burger joints is if they don't cook your burger to temperature properly, or even worse, give you the "some pink or no pink" line. Thankfully, Higher Ground asks for how you want your burger cooked, and delivered on the temperature with a variety of orders from our table. The burgers were good - a bit messy, as a craft burger should be. Crispy fries, a solid kid's menu, and the service was decent considering the number of customers and a holiday weekend. Another positive note: a decent local beer selection. Several draft options from Steel Hands and River Rat, two local breweries. The outdoor seating area had a nice surprise - a cargo net, slide, and putting green for the kids to play on. A nice bonus when dining with toddlers. My only criticism, and another pet peeve - changing tables. The only thing worse than NO changing tables, is a changing table in the women's restroom but not in the men's room. It's 2022 - Dad's take their kids out alone sometimes. To assume otherwise is sexist and annoying. To the owner/manager: please fix this. There's plenty of wall space in the Men's restroom to mount a table. I took off 1 star for this, otherwise it would have been a 5 star burger joint. read more

Unreal how long we had to wait for food AND it was not close to cooked how we ordered. Went here may times in the past and was excellent. Recently was sold and new owners must not have a clue. Our waitress, Cameron, was excellent. All we heard from all tables around us was apologizing for long wait for food. We got there early and were seated at 5:10, ordered a beer and food,, food served an HOUR later and burger was very very well done but ordered a medium. We've been 'frequent flyers' at Higher Ground since they opened & always had exceptionally good food, service, atmosphere, etc. Regrettably, however, the original owner retired & the new operation is no where near what had been expected. First, the posted menu prices, like everywhere else, were way high & the quality of the meal wasn't even close. I ordered the small shrimp platter & was greatly disappointed. The shrimp were small, obviously pre- breaded, flash frozen & commercially packaged. And at nearly $20, I'd expected much better. The service was, as always, courteous & professional, but the soft drinks were completely flat and baked beans were just above room temp. The small draw in the parking lot should've told us that something wasn't right. It wasn't. If they don't give some serious attention to food quality, they won't last. read more

Only good thing I can say about this place was the Dis Won burger (No Bun). We got there and were told a 15 minute wait and they would text us when the table was ready. Well they only texted us after we sat down and I asked if we were next because people were seated after we arrived. The server got our drinks and ordered our food but then we waited 45 minutes to get our simple order (and yes my tea went empty). The only special instructions were No Bun for our burgers. We ate with no explanation as to why. Then they rushed us out by bringing the check as I was still eating my late meal. There are many tables outside along with green field turf, a putting green, a slide for the kids and corn hole. We ate inside... It was nice and cozy. They offered a large appetizer menu, beer in bottles only and a few wines. Pepsi products for soft drinks. The burgers were the stars of the show.... cooked to order, thick and juicy. Wife got hers with fresh pub chips and I got mine with seasoned/battered fries. Both were in abundance. Burger and side was about $15. But our bellies were full and heavy when we left.
