Decided to try this place out for lunch. It's a small local place that's only open from Thursday-Sunday. They have a couple of tables to dine in. Known for their burgers so I ordered a cheeseburger plate. I got salad and fries for side. The burger was good fries were the typical crinkle fries. Overall good meal and service. Summer's is a great place to go for a "home cooked" hamburger with all the trimmings. Excellent onion rings or order a "split" and get the other half of the plate full of fries. Great country atmosphere with nice staff. read more

Passing through and looking for a place to go for lunch. Found this on Yelp and decided to give it a try. As others said, for those unfamiliar with the area, it was a little hard to spot. We actually went by it two times trying to find it and were about to give up when we noticed the window sign. Glad we found it. If you like Diners, Dives and Drive-ins, this place is for you. While not fancy, the people were friendly, service was great and prices were reasonable. We both had their burgers. They were excellent and toppings were fresh. Let me start by saying that my daughter found this spot on Yelp and when we pulled up I gave her a "What are you crazy?" Kind of look! It's just a squat brick building that looks at least 60 years old. The sign is hand lettered. As if the whole place looks run down. My daughter pointed out that the parking lot was full and there was a steady stream of folks getting to go orders. Goods signs so I agreed to give it a chance. I was very glad I did. They are only doing to go orders right now so we went in to place ours. It's strictly burgers and chicken sandwich kind of place. I got the "Sun Burger" with fries and my companions got cheeseburgers with beer battered onion rings. The lady taking our order was busy fielding calls and the ladies in the kitchen were working hard. That place was hopping! We went back to our car to wait. While waiting a train went by so close it seemed we could almost touch it. That was neat. After about 15 minutes our order was brought out to us. There's a sign asking you not to eat on premises (the parking area is small) so we went down the road and found a spot. Summer's restaurant is an institution in Newberry. They have been in business a long time. This is a classic mom and pop type of place that you don't see much of anymore. By the way, the food is delicious. The place is small. For this reason, a lot of people get their orders to go. While you wait, you can watch the ladies behind the counter preparing your meal. My favorite is the Sun Burger, a 4oz bacon cheeseburger. The bacon is always perfectly crisp. I like to add an order of the beer battered onion rings to go with my order. It's always delicious. There are lots of good things on the menu but my family loves their fresh hamburgers. My husband usually gets the Tom burger, an 8oz burger. That's his favorite. This place is extremely casual. It is located right outside what, at one time, was a cotton mill. So, when you're in the mood for good honest folks and a delicious burger, head on over to Summer's. read more

This place has been here for as long as I can remember. If you're looking for great food (especially a good burger) and a warm atmosphere, you need to stop at Summer's. By far the best burgers in the county. The "TOM Burger" is amazing. My only negative review I can give Summer's is that its only open 3 days a week. The ONLY reason I gave them 4 stars instead of 5. We eat here when we are in town. There burgers are home-style/hand pattied, Best burgers in Newberry. This is a local place that has been around forever so when you pull up don't expect a modern building but the food is great and with generous portions. I always get the Tom Burger with Bacon so that's what I recommend. Also they are only open on Thursdays, Fridays & Saturdays. read more
