Located in a beautifully restored bank building from the 1850's. This nice restaurant has a great atmosphere and a friendly staff. My friend and I chose the Southern Breakfast Brunch. It came with two eggs any style, bacon or sausage, toast, grits or hashbrowns with a side of fruit. The food is served hot, in generous portions and is delicious. We went to Newberry to visit an orchid greenhouse, and afterwards decided to explore downtown lunch opportunities. After checking out several casual places, we settled on Figaro the Dining Room. We were told they had excellent crab cakes. While we didn't find the crabcakes, but we enjoyed two of their salads and shared an order of sweet potato fries. One of the salads featured charred lettuce, and the other was a mixed green salad with strawberries and a few blueberries. Salad dressing is made in house. It was a bit thick, but very tasty. Our server was pleasant and seemed to enjoy her job. We enjoyed our lunch, and may return for dinner. read more

Went to the soft opening after the space was renovated today and Jenny was amazing and super friendly. The food was so good! I ordered an extra dirty martini, the chopped Caesar salad, and shrimp/scallop pasta. It was delicious. The new renovations are beautiful and the decor is stunning. Seth welcomed us to the restaurant. The restaurant is actually a renovated bank, It is absolutely beautiful. The wallpaper, the floor, the tables, Everything was beautiful . I could not get over the woodwork and the bar on the side was fantastic. Definitely a five star rating. Totally unexpected treasure, the elk was succulent and rich, and the sauce on it was phenomenal. Asparagus was grilled. I don't know what seasoning it was but it was the best asparagus I ever had in my life. The potatoes were a perfect match for the elk they were mild and creamy and wonderful. We also had the duck with the blueberry sauce. It was cooked to perfection. The blueberry sauce was the perfect complement to the savory. The Brussels were phenomenal. If I'd had a plate of them to eat all alone, I would've been quite happy. We had a banana pie that did not taste like banana the complement of the flavors actually taste more like butterscotch, but it was fantastic as well with a lovely graham cracker crust. The St. George and the McKenna bourbon was a lovely surprise and tasted fantastic. Jenny was the bartender and she actually gave us some of the history behind the building and some of the furnishings told us about the table that I have in the pictures belong to princess Diana, and showed me in the book where the history of it was . I was surprised how incredible this restaurant was. It was a spur of the moment reservation not by recommendation, but I would definitely travel back from Charlotte just to go there. read more

February 27 was our second visit to Figaro before attending Celtic Angels at the Newberry Opera House. Food, service and ambiance were again excellent. After the Chefs Board appetizer, I enjoyed Duck Breast and my wife ordered the Pheasant. Figaro is worth the drive from Greenville if you're going to the Opera House. read more

Ok! Now I rarely HAVE to write a review but sometimes, just sometimes, you are compelled! By chance (maybe fate) we happened upon this bucolic little town in South Carolina called Newberry. As a Yelper I looked up a nice restaurant to eat at and low and behold, the 4 1/2 star Figaro pops up. Our fabulous day just got more fabulous! To say Figaro is quaint, sublime, even surreal doesn't do it justice. A converted 19th century bank, ridiculous visual atmosphere, 5 1/2 star food, 6 star service (Thank You Caleb!! You Rock), and wonderful friends made this restaurant experience a night to remember! The food, you ask??? Grilled salad? To die for... House salad? To die for... Pork Chop... you get the picture! I had never been to Newberry, so while traveling by, we decided to stop through to see the historic downtown. We happened upon a parking spot outside of Figaro and stopped. Boy am I glad we did. Mom and I shared a cup of she crab soup and it set up the meal perfectly. She got the burger with french fries and I got the club sandwich with sweet potato fries. To die for. We took half of each sandwich home there was so much food. The atmosphere adorable and the staff was delightful. All of the food we saw looked incredible...a lady next to us had the shrimp & grits and I was almost sad I didn't get that...until my club sandwich came! Couldn't ask for better flavors. Both were great. Others in my party had the salmon over the asparagus with a side salad. The salmon had excellent flavor and was perfectly seasoned. Had tickets to the Newberry Opera House and decided to eat local before. Happened to see this restaurant after we parked and wasn't sure we could be seated since it appeared to be an upscale place and we didn't have reservations. The gentleman at the front was very nice and accommodating and seated us without a fuss. The waiter was very engaging and explained the menu and specials. After deciding that the duck could not be prepared in the time we had before the opera I decided on the pasta special and what a great choice it was. My husband went with the salad and a shrimp dish. Everything was delicious and speedy without appearing rushed. We will definitely be goin back and this time we'll give ourselves enough time to get to know the place and menu better. I was on a business trip and came here for lunch the first day. The host was amazingly friendly and welcoming. Menu size is perfect with good options. I had the daily special of grilled salmon with grits and asparagus. We tried the She Crab Soup which was very similar to crab bisque but with much more cream. The choice of music was absolutely stunning. I came again here for breakfast, they have internet and I was able to work too! I had the vegetable omelet with grits and biscuits. Everything was cooked to perfection, clean and served hot as it should ! The coffee was great too. On both visits the servers were friendly and super attentive. I highly recommend this place and I probably will go back one more time before I head back home ! read more

Located in Downtown Newberry, Figaro the Dining Room was originally the historic Bank of Newberry and later home to many different banks until the 2000s. After being renovated to a restaurant, Figaro kept much of its historical design and antique furnishings for an intimate fine dining experience. My favorite feature was the vault being used as a wine cellar! Very disappointed. My wife and I went for the night after Valentine's Day due to 100% reserved. Even though they were turning people away, all of the tables around us were empty. Our server was excellent, but the food extremely underwhelming. Just plain bad! Our filets ($50) were not butchered well, lots of sinew and tough for a filet. The outside was charred and left it bitter. Cooked ok inside, but very little flavor. "Chef's butter" was just butter with little to no enhancement (garlic and herbs as presented). Asparagus was bland. Should have stayed home. OMG the deserts were horrible. The "New York Cheesecake" must have been ordered from US Foods and the lemon pound cake with ice cream and berries was basically Starbucks' lemon loaf (once again US Foods generic) heated up with basic ice cream and canned blueberries with whatever syrup gels inside the can . . . yuk! For a $200 dinner, not worth it and will NEVER go again nor recommend. Once again, heard a lot of good things . . . but do NOT waste your money! read more

We went to brunch and our first impression of the ambience was a little loud, not very cozy or private... they could use some booths.... we were seated by the wait station, at the office door... wasn't a great spot to relax and enjoy brunch. The food was very good, but if you are looking for something light, this is not the place.... delicious food but heavy! No healthy options other than a fried salad in the appetizer. I had the chicken biscuit, it was delicious and the batter and chicken was up ther with chic-fil-a, lol... only complaint is that it was served with maple syrup that was not maple syrup, but something generic like log cabin corn syrup... i know quality maple syrup as my husband is from Vermont. My friend had the ribeye with horseradish and that too was so yummy... especially because we asked the server to bring us greens to put on it. He brought local pea shoot micro greens on the side and it definitely upleveled the sandwich. Our service was excellent fro the kind gent who we made the reservation with, to the group of servers who were nice and quite attentive. I will definitely go back... when I'm ready for another heavy meal. Wish they had a real traditional eggs Benedict... this is the kind of place that would make it really good. Not sure why so many places are using biscuits for their Benny.... it needs a traditional English muffin. I highly recommend this place. Grateful to have such an establishment in Newberry. read more

We dined here before attending a concert at the Newberry Opera House. One of the specials was halibut with pineapple salsa and yellow rice. This dish hit it out of the park! We both enjoyed it immensely! The fish was perfectly cooked. We paired this with a charred artisan greens salad with the chef recommended creamy maple dressing. It was a great choice! Every bite was delicious! We finished our meal with lemon pound cake with vanilla bean ice cream and blueberry sauce and a slice of cheesecake with strawberry purée. Once again, both were delicious! The waitstaff was attentive, knowledgeable, and very accommodating. We were not rushed and fully got to appreciate the food and the experience. A bit sweet but I like how they were sliced and still had some crunch. My husbands ribeye wasn't nearly as good as the filet and the dessert was a bit small and just OK. I'd go back. Figaro is in a beautiful historical building with elegant fixtures. The floor seemed to be dirty. The service was exceptional and prompt. We had a Friday late brunch as they offer it every day. The prices of entrees are about $15-$30 a plate. My wife ordered the breakfast platter. She ordered her eggs over medium, but they arrived well done. There was more food than she could eat and the sides were good. I ordered the Cuban as it is a favorite of mine after living in Cuba and Florida. It came with an ample amount of ham and a slab of pork covered with melted cheese. It was wrapped in a pressed bread cooked perfectly. The sandwich was overloaded with a spicy mustard that dominated the entire flavor of the sandwich. After the first half, I scraped about a tablespoon of mustard off and I could taste the ham, pork and cheese. Figaro was okay at best, but we will give it another try during lunch or dinner hours. read more
