Where do I even start. We're back home & we truly miss this place because of Jack the owner & the friends we made because of him. We even met his family! The minute you walk into the main floor smaller quaint bar area, you're greeted with a warm genuine smile from Jack letting you know to seat wherever you'd like or continue up to the other 2 floors. Which are very roomy. Jack makes you feel at home & even introduced us to "his friends." He makes each drink as well as his staff. He has a passion & attention to detail to each cocktail. He made a wonderful old fashion and we tried a couple of his own concoctions. We also got to try the food. We chose apps, pierogis & dumplings. So delicious. There are also a lot of Korean influenced food items and couple traditional American items. Everything was fresh and delicious. We loved it here so much we came back 2 more times! Location is fantastic. Close enough to main section of restaurants but off on its own. It's truly a welcoming place. No TVs here. So, Old Hat Bar opened for brunch today for the first time. I haven't been so satisfied with breakfast food in a long time. Old Hat brought its usual charm, great drinks and wonderful vibes to the brunch arena! Everyone enjoyed themselves, and the food was a pleasant surprise. The quality of the new menu items were comparable to their regular menu, which I find to be amazing as well. Service was timely and the contagious positive energy was exactly what I needed after a long work week. If you're ever in the neighborhood, the experience will be worth it. read more

Old Hat has some great vibes, food and drinks. I love that their cocktail menu changes and that they have really unique twists that you wouldn't find elsewhere. In terms of food, I loved the Kim-chi hot dog, but if you don't like spicy food think twice! It gets busy so I'd recommend coming a bit on the earlier side to grab a seat or booth. Three floors (with bars on two of them) with excellent cocktails, plus a short-ish but decent food menu. The weight of the experience is on the drinks for sure, but the food is pretty good as well. We haven't ordered at the bar so no idea what the service is like there, but the servers we've had have been good. I'm always a little leery when they take an order by memory, but so far it's worked out here. The servers seem to have pretty big sections, but ours was around and alert enough that it wasn't an issue. Food menu isn't super long, but it was good. Fried pork dumplings were tasty and not greasy, and the Korean hot dog was solid (I especially appreciate the buttered and toasted top-slice bun, which is the way all hot dog buns should be served). Bi Bim Bap was a nice option, but the sauce wasn't a tradition gochujang sauce, it was a little sweeter than usual. Our only caveat is that the third floor at least is really pretty dark, or maybe that's just middle age catching up with me, but I had a little trouble reading the menu up there. Overall a great place for a drink and some food, especially if you're looking for some interesting cocktails! read more

After my buddy walked pass this place many time, then I finally able to visit this place. It was a mixed between dry bar feel and classic home bar. They are focus on cocktail and mixed drinks. Not much of beer. The food menu was interesting, because they have Asian dumpling and mixed with western style. The burger wasn't bad, but just what you will need. There were a lot people sit at the first floor bar, and there are still bar on the 2nd floor. You might run into a dog looking for people : ) The drink price is within the acceptable price range in Oldtown area. Bathroom is at the second floor. The music was kind of toward heavy rock or alternative... Our bartender was cute and very friendly : ). Street parking could be challenging, and pull your car to parking lot is much easier. read more

Very nice restaurant/bar. This business has a limited food menu but what they make is quite good and very tasty. For our first trip here we had the Fried Pork dumplings, Arugula Goat cheese toast, Gyro and the Crab Rangoon. All three dishes were very well made and oh so tasty with the Fried pork Dumplings being my favorite of the three. This business also has a specialty cocktail menu where we ordered the Bourbon old Fashion and the Five Points Cocktails. The Five Points was OK but unfortunately the Bourbon Old Fashion was not up to par in my opinion where it comes across as a straight Bourbon on the rocks and was lacking any sweetness where I questioned if any sugar/simple syrup/maple syrup was used in the drink. Also as a pet peeve the drink was missing the signature cocktail cherry that is an integral part of this drink in my opinion and adds the extra texture/complexity/taste that a better made old fashion would have. Relative to the environment/service, it has a dark casual environment with comfortable seating over three floors and is really a great place to hang out with friends for a bite to eat or just drinks. Service was super friendly with great follow up and is definitely a strength of this business. Overall I was very pleased with our first visit here and would have given five stars overall had it not been for the sub par Old fashion. Having said that if you are in the area, you should definitely check this business out as the high reviews in YELP are definitely warranted. Also as a tip they have a Happy Hour menu comprised of some of their drinks and food on Mon to Fri from 5 -7 PM that you should take advantage of. read more

One of my favorite spots in old town. Honestly my only complaints are that it's always busy and that the drinks are so strong I can usually only handle one, and if those are considered complaints then this place is great. It's such a weird, funky place. I seriously notice a new, weird detail each time I go there - like the pencil machine on the third floor. Service can be slow, but again that's due to the place being busy and the drinks being complicated. The bartenders make them all to order - nothing premixed here! I've never eaten here so I can't speak to the food, but the cocktail menu is one of the most innovative I've seen and I'm excited each time they update it. read more

This is a new-to-me spot in Old Town. On that day, I did not find street parking nearby, so I parked in a garage. A short walk and I could see the entrance to Old Hat. Our group was already seated at a long table on the first floor, so that's where I spent our stay. I noticed they have at least another floor if not two, so those will have to wait until my next visit. The drinks were great and the staff was very nice. Service was just right, not rushed, not slow. Stopped by Old Hat after getting dinner with some friends. Upon walking up to the bar, I thought they had the most awesome sign (I think it was a bird with a cat on its back or something like that). When we entered, one of the bartenders had the most epic mustache, and looked like he was putting on a show for the crowd gathered. After finding some room upstairs, we were greeted promptly, ordered some drinks (which came quickly), and took in the scene. I have visited ALMOST all the bars on lower king street of Old Town, Alexandria, and I must say ... this is (currently) my favorite. - Bartender Jack is a very sociable and likable person w/ a plethora of Mixology knowledge. W/ nothing more than a flavor preference he can create something you like. At least 3x I've pulled a drink name off of the internet and he knew it. - Lisa (his usual compatriot in crime at the bar) is equally as nice, so long as you aren't being an azz. ;) - The food menu is not extensive, but what they do have they do well. However, if you want a real dinner, this isn't the place for that. - The feel of the bar historically-old, without feeling like a Dive-Bar. Building has been there for quite some time. It's nothing to see the ghost tour group stop by on route ... and show off the upstairs where (x) happened. (Take the ghost tour to find out what! Lol) This is NOT a pickup bar. Won't find a lot of singles here. Over all, it's more of a place s for locals. Not touristy at all, and there is nothing visually stimulating about the place that's indicative of the typical trendy bars of DC... Gets crowded Friday / sat nights after 7p or so... ... But the drinks are great, people are nice, language is subdued, and thoroughly enjoyable place to enjoy company. It's as great as the company you keep. read more

Overall this place has a very intimate, but casual ambiance. The lighting makes for an intimate setting but overall the vibes are good for hanging out with friends or on a date. The food was delicious. My girlfriend and I got the crab rangoons which are filled with real crab that tastes so fresh. They had so much filling that when you bit into them, they busted open. We also got the cemita load fries, and honestly they didn't disappoint either. The pork was cooked very well, and the fries were loaded with cheese. Portion sizes were also great for sharing, and they weren't terribly priced for the sizes either. The drinks were good, and well made. We got 3 cocktails and then I got a canned cider as well. The cocktails each weren't over powered with alcohol which I think is way better for the experience. We got Pimento Colada, POG 2.0, and then another cocktail that wasn't listed on their websites cocktail menu and I can't remember the name. Each tasted good and had their own unique flavor. The Colada used a Pablano pepper infused liquor that I had never had before, and it had a kick to it from the slight spicy but wasn't overpowering. The POG was fresh and fruity. I didn't taste the third cocktail but my girlfriend liked it too. The service unfortunately was a bit difficult to navigate. You had to track someone down for you to get your order taken but the bartenders were aware of people needing to be helped. Attentiveness on a busy Friday night wasn't poor and considering you seat yourself, sometimes you can get lost in the shuffle with no one dedicated specifically to you. The service is really the only reason this place didn't get a full five stars, but I would highly recommend and will be going back to try more of the food. read more

Now this is a fun, energetic bar in Old Town with an amazing owner and staff who make great cocktails and ensure their guests are plenty happy and well-taken-care-of! I came here with friends and family one Friday night after a night of drinks and dinner in DC and even tho they were packed, we still found a decent seat upstairs. We got great service and enjoyed the amazing cocktails they prepared for us! I heard the food is amazing, but the kitchen closes at 10Pm or 10:30PM (or something like that), so by the time we arrived, the kitchen was definitely closed for the evening. Love the décor in this place... Definitely loved it for people watching... lots of fun singles hooking up and friends hanging/partying and couples enjoying each other's company.
