We just went for our second time since we were in Payson and it was just as amazing as it was 18 months ago. I got the smoked poblano marg(2), whiskey sour, and my hubs got the bitter orange and an old fashion. All were so tasty and made great. Lindsey was an amazing bartender and handled the opening rush like a pro!! For food we got the chicken tenders, which are the best ones in the world lol and pizza. I got the white pizza with mushrooms and my hubs got a creation recommend by Lindsey which was the simple with ricotta, bacon, and garlic. We had a great time hanging out, eating, and drinking. Um....YUM!! True wood fired pizza. And it didn't disappoint. It's a busy place, but you can sit at the bar if there's available seating however, it's worth the wait. They have indoor seating. They have a covered patio and then they have an outdoor patio, in the middle of the day if the sun is shining, it's great. Today was a little cold so I sat inside. I started with their simple salad which came with herbed ranch which is probably my least favorite dressing so I asked what options they had. They all sounded amazing especially the ale vinaigrette, but I asked my waitress what she recommended. She recommended the herb ranch. I went with it and I'm so happy that I did. It was truly one of the best dressings I've had in a very long time. It was herbaceous and very flavorful and complimented the salad well. I ordered a simple pizza with mushrooms and olives, and it came out bubbling hot. The flavor was spot on, the crust chewy with a little char which I like and everything just complimented each other. Stopped in Old County Inn after doing a hike at Tonto Natural Bridge State Park. We really loved the green chile queso with the breadsticks and thought the Hawaiian pizza had a really great flavor too. Our build your own pizza was underwhelming, when we ordered it, we assumed it would have the regular pizza cheese and the mozzarella, but it just came out with the mozzarella. I'm thinking maybe that's why the flavor was lacking a bit. Our fault though! Next time we'll do two specialty pizzas. The bartender who served us was very nice and attentive. Tourist Trap! This use to be the place to go years ago. They expanded. Now it's long waits and poor service for mediocre pizza.

Second try eating here, first time the wait was too long. View and patio are amazing, but we waited 50 minutes for one pizza without any attention from our server. The pizza flavor was great, but it falls apart easily and is VERY greasy. Our server was SUPER nice and attentive but the hostess didn't greet us and then set our menus on the table and walked away before we had even reached the table behind her. Additionally, the person who delivered our food to the table, abruptly plopped the pizza on the table and walked away without a word. It was an odd experience. We came to Old County Inn while driving through Pine. There was a wait to get seated, since the restaurant was very busy. There's some tables outside to wait and you can order beer and self serve water. We ordered the Pancho and Burrata. I thought the burrata would be better. There were so many toppings it kept falling off. We took a couple of pieces to go and it was better then. We liked the Pancho - the topping to bread ratio was much better. A table near us offered the white pizza and it looked good. The waitress was nice, but not very attentive. We never got a refill of water, so we just refilled it ourselves. I rely heavily on Yelp to find gluten free options. This restaurant kept showing up in my search for the Strawberry area. I would not recommend it for celiacs as the server said in her words "there's tons and tons of cross contamination here" when I asked about gluten free options. They do offer a cauliflower pizza crust for an up charge of $3.50. I asked if some of the salads might be ok. She said she could take the breadsticks off. I didn't feel comfortable eating here but my husband was hungry and I felt bad for him. It's a really eclectic hole in the wall type of joint. Kind of like biker bar meets trendy food network. A serious Dichotomy. The restaurant name "Old Country Inn" didn't seem to match the food and atmosphere. Everyone seemed to be having fun and enjoying themselves. My husband ordered the gluten free East Coast clam pizza. Cost was $24.50. He said it was ok. I ended up ordering the "Just beet it salad." Cost was $13. It was fresh and tasty. I ordered no salad dressing on the salad but some on the side but it came with dressing on it. Wasn't sure if the dressing was gluten free or not. They did replace my salad with a new one without dressing. We sat outside and it took a long time for us to get our food and we had to ask for our check after waiting a really long time. Hands down our favorite pizza place in AZ for the last several years. We have built trips around wanting to eat this pizza. Now we go up to Pine a few times a year just to make sure we get our Old County Inn fix. We even took a day trip up there when my parents were here so they could taste the pizza. They are from Back East and they loved it! The meat pie is a must have every time we are here along with the buffalo chips. The indoor space is small, but offers ample seating. Old County Inn also has a large and spacious covered patio with heaters. Since it was a chilly day, we opted to sit inside. We shared the Arizona Greens salad as well as the East Coast Clam pizza. The salad came with spring greens, baby kale, carrots, shaved persian cucumber, shaved radish, roasted tomatoes, crispy sweet corn, bread sticks, and housemade buttermilk herb dressing. What a wholesome and delicious salad. I am a sucker for texture in my food and this salad provided that and more. The East coast clam pizza had mozzarella, grana padano, littleneck clams, house bacon, calabrian peppers, pesto, oregano, and fresh lemon. It was the most unique pizza on the menu, so we had to get it! I've never had pizza with clams before and you know what, it pleasantly surprised me. I didn't love it, but I didn't hate it either. I have to start by saying, these are the best damn chicken wings we ever had! They need to put that on their sign! Things started out a little shaky, as we wanted to sit outside, and the host, who I also think is a manager, shows us a couple of two tops, not on the enclosed patio, but in a walkway, that's right beside the door. We were seated in about that time, and luckily, that was the only faux pas we had with our visit! Our server was Joyce, and she was phenomenal! Best clam pizza! I love this place so much, it was one of my favorites when I visited Pine/Strawberry (and also one of the primary reasons I would head that way, in addition to the beautiful hikes/scenery, escape from the bustling Phoenix city life). It's usually pretty busy when I come here, regardless of the day time (I've been on Wednesday before happy hour, Sunday morning right at opening, and other random times). I love the taproom in the back, they have live musicians regularly and when the weather is nice, it's really enjoyable to sit outside, play a round of cornhole, and enjoy the view of the mountains. Service is always great and friendly. They have a standard drink menu with lots of solid options (I like their margaritas) and of course beer/wine. My favorite dish of all time is their clam pizza, but over the years I've tried several others that are also delicious. Their wings, salad, and other entrees never disappoint either. Yesterday we went to eat there and everything was very delicious. We ordered wings, pizza, which on the menu says pie, and a lemon cookie that comes with a raspberry gelato. God, it's delicious. Delicious hidden gem among Pine! We plopped by Old County Inn after a nearby hike at the Pine Canyon trail (highly recommended if you want a nice easy hike with views) and we found the Old County Inn and boy was I glad I did. The food was delicious and the dinosaur size whole wood fired chicken wings were a highlight. These were perfectly juicy with a nice crispy skin and came with an amazing buttermilk ranch dressing. Also got the Arizona greens salad which was really fresh and different than other salads I've tried. The crispy sweet corn was a nice touch as well. We got the house special white pizza after that with garlic, mushroom, feta and Italian sausage and that was pretty darn tasty too. Very very good pizzas, I have the White pizza because I am a total cheese-freak, but all are exceedingly awesome and tasty and seem to end too soon... I also really like the Meat and Cheese plate, it's meant to be shared (I think that's the idea), but I've gone there alone and had it with a pint or two of Cider and picked at it while listening to live music. It is delicious-the bacon is sooo good and cured in-house-and they rotate the cheeses depending on what's new, or on special, or can make the plate with your preferences. They have some wonderful salads too, local greens and tomatoes, meats and cheeses, chicken or steak. Today i had the beet salad, with pine nuts and goat cheese and a lovely lemon vinaigrette. We got there a bit before opening time so got to be seated first, the breeze was great sitting outside and couldn't have asked for a better lunchtime get together. Service is always good , even great; since some long tables are shared it can get a bit chaotic for the help but there's always a smile from them.
