This review is for their Kids Camp, which is probably the city's best kept secret. During DCPS Spring Break, we signed up our nine-year-old daughter for three days here with before and aftercare. Drop off at 8am was easy with street parking right out front. Pick up is any time until 6pm. Our daughter loved to he coaches and activities. They'd play in the gym, do obstacle courses, and go on excursions to playgrounds, Anacostia Park, and more. She always came home happy and excited to tell us about camp! Also, the price wasn't as steep as other camps. read more

Old City Crossfit - Interval Training Gyms Near Me - Washington, DC, District of Columbia

I'm a huge fan of the gym and its coaches. They put a premium on form and technique to ensure that everyone is getting the most from the movements while doing them safely. If you are concerned about an image of CrossFit is "lift the heaviest thing you can, as fast as you can," you'll be pleasantly surprised by how thoughtful the coaching is. The gym is full of people at all levels, from beginners to experienced Olympic lifters, so everyone can find a spot. read more

Fantastic gym, coaches are super knowledgeable, helpful, and encouraging, great workouts and the people are absolutely awesome and the most welcoming I've ever experienced. read more

I knew I needed to do something for aging bones and sedentary hours at my writing desk, and had driven by the massive window-gates of the Old City Crossift gym on H Street NE a gazillion times. its journeyman style appealed to me and I'd had young students (in their 30s) who met at a CrossFit gym and were both beautiful and muscled. I looked it up, knew classes were not for me (not a fan unless I'm the teacher), did the scary thing and walked in one day. A few notable things: a lofty utilitarian space, no loud music, not crowded (a class may have been starting), and a friendly vibe from the two guys at the "desk." Jason the manager introduced himself and it went upward from there. I started with a free training session to assess my needs and see if he was a good fit for a personal coach. I appreciated his attentiveness and obvious expertise, and that he was reading Steinbeck sealed the deal. Personal coaching isn't inexpensive, though their rates are within local standards, but I adjusted my budget (less shoe shopping) to make this a priority and couldn't be happier. Coaching isn't about muscle mass for me, but amassing better habits overall, and here, at six months in, I know more about my health and body overall. With the guidance of a talented and exceptional coach, I'm creating a way of life that is not just healthier and stronger, but more satisfying, alert, and fun. I worked out today during free gym time while a class was going on, and was impressed to observe that the variety of students (age, gender, fitness level) are fully taken into account for each activity without judgment, and that amid the huffing and puffing is a camaraderie and supportiveness for hard work. Everyone left sweaty and happy, myself included. Go! read more

Everyone is very nice and have learn so many new exorcices. Have change my workout journey for good.

Great cross fit gym. Workouts are well planned with different scaling options for people at all levels of fitness. I particularly like how the coaches are attentive during workouts to ensure our form is correct while simultaneously pushing us to move beyond our comfort zone. The coaches take the time to know everyone on a first name basis and to learn individual fitness goals. read more

Phenomenal cross fit gym! Great culture, great coaches, friendly to anyone wherever they are on their journey, whether they have never participated in CrossFit (me) or you've been lifting your whole life! read more

Great coaching and cool people. What more would you want? Plus, they have a workout time that fits any schedule.

Coach Jen overseeing the morning open gym sessions are quite literally the best part of my day. Great personalized attention. Everyone is super Covid-conscious. Masks are worn at all times. Socially distanced. Gains out the wazoo. What more could you ask for during a global pandemic!? read more

Nobody would look at me and think CrossFit, including myself. After years of different work outs, different gyms, and several different CrossFit gyms across the country I figured they were all the same. Dude bros being judgey AF while they do box jumps and fake pull ups. Well, imagine my surprise when I roll into Old City and find it kind, welcoming, and encouraging. I've been going for about 6 months now and I've totally drank the kool-aid. I'm getting stronger, I've got great work out buddies, and I have a community that is there to encourage me when I need it. I describe it as the least CrossFity CrossFit gym I've been to. They've got the WODs, sure, but they are free of the super toxic ego you see in a lot of gyms. If you're thinking about it, try it out, I think you'll like it. read more

Old City is a very inviting place with a great structure for bringing in new people. Don't be overwhelmed by their introductory process. Unlike a lot of gyms, they will bring you in for a face to face introduction meeting where they will assess your fitness and provide a structured process for preparing you for crossfit rather than just chucking you in to a WOD on your first day. The best part in my opinion is that they keep checking in with you even after you start to ensure you're enjoying your experience and to develop and track your goals. I came in as a long time marathon runner who had not weight trained concurrently in years. Now I love hitting PRs and getting strong each week. Jen is the morning coach and is great at what she does. She'll help you get better without being overwhelming. She knows how to scale each workout to better suit your abilities, but she remembers you and gets you to with harder. read more

I'd had really mixed success working out at a gym alone and decided to give classes a try. I'm 45 classes in and I'm hooked. I mostly go in the morning but have done enough evening and Saturday classes so say that all of the coaches are awesome! Everyone is welcoming and super focused on good form and creating an inclusive environment that accommodates people of all backgrounds and fitness levels. read more

I am almost 68 years old. I've been working out virtually with my Old City coach for more than a year. About 8 years ago I had both knees and one hip replaced We work safely, with correct form, but always with the expectation of doing a bit more than I think I can do. My strength, balance, flexibility and endurance have improved immensely. I'm really proud to be connected to Jason at Old City Crossfit. read more

I joined Old City Crossfit about a month and a half ago with zero experience and I have been LOVING it! I'm so happy I gave it a shot! The coaches are spectacular and super encouraging. They are great teachers who emphasize correct form and help me to scale everything to fit my level (while still pushing me). If you're looking for great people, look no further. The people at Old City aren't overly competitive and they want to see you succeed. Would 10/10 recommend to anyone looking for a dynamic, challenging, and fun place to push your fitness to the next level. For real, sign up for the intro 1:1 or drop in a class. See ya at the gym!!!! read more

I cant say enough great things about Old City! I just passed the 3 month mark and I have pushed my comfort level with the exercises, met a ton of new friends/neighbors and gotten in better shape than I have been in the past 2 years of doing OTF. I was always initiated by Crossfit, but Jenn, Sean, Katie, Sean and the other coaches that I have interacted with have made it fun and taught me soo much, in a short amount of time. Thanks again, and I look forward to see what other barriers I am able to break down through the rest of 2019! read more

Great box and space! Enthusiastic coaches and friendly members. I highly recommend it!

If you are thinking about joining a Crossfit gym along the H Street corridor or NOMA area then Old City Crossfit is the BEST! They support you in meeting your goals, and make sure you are doing everything with correct form. There is a real community at this place. read more

Great place. Very nice members. Dropped in for Murph on Memorial Day. Members were cheering me on by name by the middle of the workout.

I never had a workout routine. At 42, I needed to build strength. I wanted to keep picking my kids up (a 5 and 7 year old), live better, and longer. I picked CrossFit because my friend said she thought I would like how practical it was, the community spirit, and the increased mobility. I picked Old City CrossFit because I saw on their website that their mission was to help each person "...be better prepared for life ahead." I'm about six months into it and would have to say that they are successful in meeting their mission. The instructors are great. They remember where I'm at, are encouraging, and patient in giving explanations. I the people that come are equally encouraging. I feel like each person is invested in the success of others. As a newbie, I appreciate the other members that have been patient, giving high-fives, and genuinely interested in seeing me and others progress. I've learned a ton, I can lift my kids with ease now, and I feel better prepared for life ahead. I know a lot of people in CrossFit have been active for years. As someone who hadn't been, I think it's the perfect place to start. What I've gained from my experience at Old City has opened the door to endless other ways I can be active in life. Thank you! read more

This one goes out to all you tub-sters (like me) who are thinking about giving this a shot. Sean & team (shout outs to Jen, Jenn, Erin & Meg) go out of their way to make sure you are comfortable and doing everything correctly. If something hurts more than it should, say the word and they can work with you to adjust the movement so you don't injure yourself. Stick with it, show up and you'll start seeing results. If you're a fatty mcfatterson (like me!) it will take a good 6-8 weeks before you stop being massively sore after each workout, and only merely sore after each workout. I'm at the 3 month mark and feel fitter than I have in years. That button on my button down isn't straining anymore (you know the button I'm talking about) and all I did was show up 3x a week and do the workout to the best of my limited ability. I still eat like there will be a massive pizza shortage soon and I need to build up a reserve, but that's another issue for another day. The gym has a massive schedule you don't need to sign up for in advance, just show up at class time and do the work out. Hope to see you there! read more

I've been a member since before the gym officially opened, and it's been a fabulous experience. If you've been hesitant to try Crossfit because of the cult-like atmosphere you may have read about, then you'll want to check out Old City. It is a very approachable gym, thanks in part to the coaches, as well as the other members. Whether you're an elite athlete, or a first-time exerciser, the coaches will help adapt the workouts to your ability. They are always engaged in everything we do, making sure we're doing all of the movements correctly. Every quarter, there is a new skill/strength focus, and the programming for that 3-month period is tailored to those skills. At the end of each class, they spend a great deal of time on mobility, to help reduce soreness, and help you work out any tightness you may have. The best part is that the owners and coaches listen to their members. People requested an 8pm class, they got it. People asked for additional weekend classes, they got it. They've also started offering nutritional seminars, yoga, a gymnastics skills class, and crossfit for kids, so there is something for everyone. In the next month, they will also start to offer swim workouts. They also plan monthly happy hours outside of the gym, which are very well-attended by members. It's a great way to get together with people outside of the gym, in a more casual and social setting. With it's proximity to Gaulludet University, there are quite a few members who are deaf or hearing impaired. The coaches have gone out of their way to learn sign language, and do what they can to better accommodate these guests. At the social gatherings, they try to have a sign language interpreter on hand as well, to help everyone communicate with each other. I think this says a lot about the owners and staff, and the type of culture they want to promote in their gym. While the cost of membership is higher than most other gyms, it's definitely worth it. Every time you attend a class, you're essentially getting a personal training session for an hour. If you were to pay for personal training on a daily basis, the cost wouldn't be much different, if not higher. Since joining, I've become noticeably stronger and leaner, all without feeling like I've joined a cult! read more

I love this gym. I'm new to Old City, but within weeks I felt like I belonged to a real community. The coaches and other gym members are so friendly and supportive and it's pushed me to show up more frequently and work harder during each workout. The workouts are also fantastic because they're never the same. It's always something new--and hard, but doable--which is great to keep things interesting. read more

I dropped in to Old City Crossfit for a quick workout while in town for a wedding. While I was certainly the stranger in the box, the sense of family was the first thing that drew me in. After being led through some fun movements by Erin and Sean, I was impressed by their level of knowledge about both the exercise movements, but also on topics ranging from mobility to rehabilitation. Overall, a fantastic experience. I see this gym growing a lot in the future if it continues to exude the wonderful culture I witnessed. Some amplification. I've been to several Crossfit gyms over the past 8 years or so, and the challenge I see for owners is finding the appropriate balance of 1) Catering to those that are new to the Crossfit culture, because it can be intimidating, and 2) Providing higher-level coaching and guidance to take make experienced folks better- and by better I mean, better movement/mobility/knowledge so that they can lift heavier, push further, and move faster. This balance is difficult to achieve but I felt that the Old City coaches recognized the importance and it was reflected by the people that joined in on the workout. I'll be back. read more

I've been doing Crossfit for almost three years now, and this past June as I moved to a new neighborhood, I had to find a new Crossfit home. For anyone who has switched gyms, you know how difficult (and sad!) this process can be. Finding Old City Crossfit was a huge blessing, and I couldn't be happier to be a member. Everyone makes an effort to get to know you, and the sense of community is instantaneous. Most importantly, the coaches are AMAZING. Funny, compassionate, and smart - they are always helping you do your best. They are quick to catch bad habits and tweak your form, even in the smallest ways that you may never have noticed. They are also adamant in making sure you remain healthy and capable - always giving you new stretches, mobility activities, or strength suggestions to help you constantly improve. If you're dropping in or looking for a new box, check out Old City - I promise you won't be disappointed. read more

Love it here! It's a great space with lots of class times throughout the day. All the coaches are friendly, knowledgeable and encouraging.

Defender of freedom, proponent of inalienable rights for individuals, and the best hope for mankind...we'e talking about the USA, right? Well, sure, but I'm actually referring to Old City Crossfit! In a city stacked with enough history to orgasm even the most erudite history buff, there's no better place that merges this history with fitness than Old City Crossfit! I find that it represents DC better than other boxes in the city, and it happens to have a winning location in the trendy and happening H St corridor. The owner/coach Sean is full of good vibes and positive energy. He's a great coach and constantly gives the feedback and individual attention we all want to accomplish our goals. His humor is perhaps best reflected in the hanging "Declaration of Into Fitness" document on the wall. This document actually looks like a copy of the Declaration of Independence and has plenty of clever and hilariously written prose that substitutes the more popular document with Crossfit-focused subject. The bottom of the document consists of signatures from the box's founding members. Brilliant! This is definitely my go-to Crossfit box next time I'm in DC. I recommend you join if you're a local and definitely drop-in if you're a visitor! read more

Walked in here about 4 months ago, scared because I've heard crazy things about crossfit but my friend really wanted me to try it. Called in and Sean told us to drop by a late evening class for personal attention and it was great! He made sure everything was detailed and simple at the same time, I wasn't scared at all. Had a great time and wanted to check other crossfit gyms before I made my final choice as to where to join. Without a doubt, Sean's coaching made the difference for me and I decided to sign up. I started going to Jen's 6am class and haven't looked back since. She's amazing as well, great with catching bad form and quick ways to fix it while still making you work. I look forward to making it there in the AM. I've also tried afternoon classes with David among other coaches and no complaints there, awesome coaching all around. Overall, I like how the coaches are knowledgeable, enthusiastic and friendly. Everyone always makes sure they introduce themselves and I love that. I also see a strong effort to foster the gym community outside the gym by planning hikes, ski trips, Whole30 workshops, and things of the sort. While I may not participare in all those events, it's great to see Old City Crossfit has those options for me if I needed them. read more

Over 8 years or so that I've been doing CrossFit, Old City stands out for its exceptional coaches and its kind, friendly community. I have had the pleasure of learning from both Coach Jen and David. Both are pros that genuinely care about making you better and having fun while doing it. This atmosphere has helped me become far more consistent, getting in the gym 4-5 times a week regularly. read more

I can't say enough good things about Old City and Sean. The gym is awesome but it's really the coaches here who make the difference - they are incredibly professional, kind, and knowledgeable and will get the best out of you! The workouts are creative and fun and I can guarantee you that you'll build up a sweat here and you'll love it! read more

I've been going for about two months now. I was new to Crossfit when i started so I began by taking personal training sessions with Jason. The personal training sessions gave me a good foundation. When I came with questions or things that I wanted to focus on (like issues with my lower back), Jason always improvised and tailored the exercises and his advice. He went beyond cookie cutter routines and gave me really valuable training advice. I felt like I improved a lot during those first sessions. The classes, which I started after I finishing the personal training sessions, have also been great. I've taken classes with three different instructors who have different styles but consistently give useful personal feedback. They've really helped me with my form on the squat and the deadlift. Also, working out with other people has been a blast, and I say that as someone who usually keeps to himself. There is a good mix of new people and regulars who go to the same dates/times every week. People have been friendly and welcoming. read more

Love, love, love this gym. While hunting for a Crossfit gym near work I was scouring websites when I came across the website for this gym. Even just the online presence showed me that this gym was a special place so I decided to give it a try and after my free trial class decided to make the commitment and sign up for a membership. I've been going here about a month now and have truly enjoyed every class. The coaches are extremely knowledgeable, helpful, encouraging, and welcoming. They are able to scale the workout to meet every person's individual needs and never make you feel bad about not being able to execute a skill. I would definitely recommend this gym to anyone looking for an environment where one can learn and grow. Added bonus- floor was just redone! read more

After 5 years at another small, non-CrossFit DC gym, we decided it was time to step up our training. We tested out several other spots, and there was no question that Old City was the place for us. This isn't your overly dude-bro CrossFit gym. It's full of coaches and people that actually care about you and your fitness journey. Can't go Rx? No problem, plenty of options to scale. New to CrossFit? Doesn't matter; you won't get the side-eye. This is one of the most encouraging places we've been in DC, and it's a perfect spot to drop in or to make your home gym. We've only been there for a few months, but we expect to be long-time Old Cityzens for as long as they'll have us. read more

Love this place! Relaxed environment, knowledgable coaches, fun place to be. I appreciate a gym where you can be challenged without feeling like you're always in competition. Old City has an outstanding coaching staff that tailors the daily workout to your exact level. Very friendly inviting atmosphere that holds no judgement for any experience level. I have been a loyal Old City member since the beginning and can not give enough positive praise to Sean, Erin, the whole coaching staff, and the community at Old City! I genuinely feel a part of something bigger at Old City and the level of caring from the coaches to the members is apparent in every class I attend. I have never been a member of a gym for more than a few months until Old City and could not imagine my life in DC without this crew. The coaches are amazing at reinforcing proper form and care about members to coach you to a place where you can challenge yourself with safe boundaries and support. Moreover, at what gym will you find a coach who calls and texts you to hold you accountable for your health. If you think you want to improve yourself in a place where you are cared for, Old City is the place for you! read more

Great gym, I stopped in while visiting from out of town and the crew here was very welcoming and provided a great workout! I'll be back the next time I'm in town for sure! read more

This is the most welcoming, kind gym I have ever been to. Unlike many gyms that will meet with you and not follow up, the team of coaches here consistently will discuss goals with you. They will check in, and if you have ANY questions they are very helpful and take a continued interest in you. The other members are also great. The energy is so positive, so joyful. And yet, everyone pushes each other to do their personal best. Whether you have been lifting for a decade or are totally new, the coaches at Old City are prepared to help you learn, grow, and crush your goals. ALSO, during this weird COVID-y time, they are doing a great job at prioritizing members' health, safety, and peace of mind. Everyone has a small area for working out and classes are nice and small. They provide everyone their own cleaning equipment and ensure enough time at the end of class for everyone to full de-germ the stuff they touched and the floor. Everyone wears masks inside. And if you are possibly exposed to COVID, the gym reaches out to you to let you know AND help you figure out where you want to get tested in DC for free. :) A N D they have a zoom workout option where a coach will help you over video. They are surprisingly GREAT because all of the coaches are super creative with getting you a workout with WHATEVER you have at home. I wish I could give Old City 2848382 stars because they are such a stellar local business, with so much to offer folks at all stops on their respective fitness journeys. :) read more

This is the greatest gym of all time. First and foremost, the owner and coaches know their shit. They are very interactive during class, always have amazing advice, and actually kick ass themselves at CrossFit/lifting/yoga/etc. The whole crews fosters a great environment. People of all skill levels can get amazing workout. New and need some pampering. They can be gentle. Been going for a while but feeling lazy, their can lend foot for your ass. Injured and need a scale? They are super creative. Overall, they set a tone of acceptance and achievement over mindless competition and douchery. What else could you want? Equipment is top notch. Place is clean. It is A/C so you don't die in the summer. It's in H st, so your runs will always be...eventful;) read more

Very nice gym and great coaches. I am a "newbie" to crossfit. Previously, I worked out at a gym and did plenty of running and cardiovascular work, but never "stepped up my game" to crossfit. After an initial drop by and one on one session, I decided to give it a try. Although it has only been a month or so, I feel like I have learned a lot--including all of the different acronyms "WOD, RX, PB, RNFT). The staff has helped me focus on proper technique which has helped me tremendously. Finally, the classes are full of all different types of people, from experts, newbies (me), big, small, strong, weak, male, female, young and old. There is a place for all! read more
