We have come to this restaurant for years. Tonight will be the last. Our waitress had a very poor sarcastic attitude. We felt like a complete inconvenience. We were served our appetizer with no side plates, no silverware and no napkins. Took way too long for 2 meals. Probably has something to do with our waitress standing at the table behind us talking for awhile. My husband went in to ask for a manager and got the owner......who was drunk! Ate at Old Blinking light last night with my date for Dinner. She had the Vegan Sweet Potato with Zucchini Pasta, which for a vegan option was pretty good and had some flavor, then shareable we had the flash fried brussel sprouts that tasted like potato chips, which was something we did not enjoy that much, looked like they pealed one brussel sprout to make the plate with peppers and balsamic. Then I had the Green Chile Chicken Fettucine, which all our plates looked presentable and plated well, having green chile and parmesan should have had flavor even before the salt was added, but it didnt. The spinach fettucine was nice and soft but the pasta dish as well as the chicken had no flavor, no salt in it at all, every bite didnt taste like anything just blah, I told my waiter my disappointment with the dish and how bland it was, but you cant fix it throwing salt on top of the dish having a salty outside and bland inside with each bite. ambiance in the restaurant was nice but disappointed with the quality taste of the dishes. please season properly and try the dishes before bringing them out. read more

Fabulous , fun, open hang out with great service and fabulous FOOD. Table for 4 at 5:30 and Angel was our attentive, wonderful server. She came at perfect times snd returned quickly. I actually love the food here and Happy Hour but after two negative experiences over the phone with the front desk, I had to write a review. First of all, I called to make a Sunday dinner reservation around 1PM and was told by the woman answering the phone "they were not open for dinner and lunch service ended at 3PM, Love". As if they were CURRENTLY not open for dinner but UNABLE to make a future reservation? I was surprised by this answer and then proceeded to make a dinner reservation without problems through OpenTable. Next is a bigger disaster, that Sunday evening for my parents 40th anniversary we had a nice meal and my mom in town visiting lost her cell phone in the booth. We called that evening and the following day and were told that they did not find a phone by the hostess and she would leave a note for them to call in case it was found, "LOVE". Days go by with my poor mom without a phone and when she was finally able to get the phone unlocked and the find my phone feature, lo and behold, it was flashing at OBL. My parents show up and are told that the phone is in the manager's office "it had been buzzing a lot" and that the note was never given to him to call us back in case the phone was found. It was such an ordeal and stress on my visiting parents that I had to share this lack of communication loop. I wish the note had been passed on or that the phone had actually been looked for and/or they had answered the phone if it kept ringing. Old Blinkin' Light is in our weekly rotation. My go-to order is the brussel sprouts - picture brussel leaves separated from the brussel core, fried in duck fat, augmented with roasted peppers and topped with a balsamic drizzle...tried to make these once at home. They were as delicious as the ones they make at Old Blinkin' Light, but man that is a lot of work! I was a server back in the day and it made me pity whoever's sidework it is to peel those brussels! Mind you, I don't pity him or her so much that I don't regularly consume this dish. I follow my brussel app up with their ancho chile rubbed steak. My husband is all over the place: enchilada casserole, Pecan crusted ruby red trout, even the burger. And he loves the sweet potato fries. Happy hour is pretty good...good food selections and nice drink prices. It is fiercely sunny when you eat out on the patio, but you can ask the friendly and helpful wait staff and they can lower the screens to give you some relief. Women at the hostess stand can be a bit clueless - for instance, once refusing to seat us at a booth at 3 in the afternoon on a Saturday "in case someone comes in"...darling, we were the someones coming in and we ended up leaving on principle. The siren call of the brussels brought us back so I'm trying not to be snippy. read more

If I were reviewing this place on the food alone, I would probably give it 3 stars. It wasn't bad by any means - the Boy ordered mac n cheese with shrimp, I ordered the ahi tuna sandwich - just that you pay a premium and get the quality of food you would expect for that price. It was good, it just didn't blow us away. What levels OBL up to four stars was the experience: the ambiance is a really cool industrial with open flame accents and it has a huge patio that has heaters and a big fire pit that would be cozy in even in the middle of winter (in fact, I'm thinking it'd be really fun to sit out on that patio during a light snowfall!). Boy pointed out the patio is also equipped with mist fans for the summer time. Our server was one of the best I've experienced in a long time. Unfortunately his name escapes me. He was friendly and professional, made recommendations but didn't push, and was WAY on top of keeping our drinks filled. This was especially impressive because we were the only customers out on the patio so that usually means you're a bit of an afterthought for a busy server. I also never felt like he was hovering over us and he was prompt to bring us our check and get us checked out. I doubt we'll be regulars to OBL because we don't live close by, but we'll definitely have to return sometime this winter to see how well that year-round patio holds up. read more

I'm really disappointed with the lack of concern from Management. I got my food to go for my family to eat because we were going out of the country the next day. I was so shocked that they actually thought it was ok to pack up burned/as in black gnocchi and raw kettle chips. I get it that restaurants sometimes have an off day. But burned pasta and raw potatoes? Living 15 minutes away, I didn't feel like going back out again because I was finishing packing but there were no food in the house because we were leaving at 3:30AM to go to the airport. My youngest daughter was crying saying she was hungry. She got to have a cereal bar for dinner that I bought for the trip but the rest of us went to bed without dinner. I called them within 5 minutes of getting home, I wrote to them online and I even mailed them a letter. When I called them, the manager asked me for my address and she'd send me a gift card. It's been 6 weeks. No gift card, no email to follow up, nothing. I had been willing to give them another chance but it's obvious they don't care about their customers. This is my local HR go-to for great food and good drinks. The blackened shrimp tacos are my absolute favorite thing on the menu. The Mac and cheese is probably some of the best I've ever had (make sure you dip it in the green chili sauce). The staff is always very welcoming and helpful. It's the type of place I could go for a date night with my husband, take our daughter for family night, do a happy hour with the girls or take my mom for an early lunch. I've typically get ahi tuna sandwich with truffle fries. Let me stop here for a second: in my opinion the ahi tuna sandwich is the best around Denver!!!, price point is only $14 for a 6-8oz ahi tuna. I've tried many places, many sea food restaurants, where many of those consider to be upscale and still come back to OBL for ahi tune. Omg you have to try it ! Thoroughly enjoyed the outdoor dining area but have a couple of suggestions: desperately need music out there so people don't have to whisper and the din of chair and platter noises can be somewhat lost in melodies. The chairs are very loud against the cement flooring. Can hear everyone else's conversations quite clearly even at low volume in the smaller cluster of other diners. Perhaps another heater or semi-circle fire pit a slight distance away from the other one to have more space between diners yet good heating. A sign on the inside next to in-to-outside entrance so that people walking in don't go straight there as many people were told that they needed to be assigned a server first, which caused at least three groups to have to go back inside and wait. They didn't know until told. As for food, my Cobb salad was really fresh and so delicious! I paired that with the butternut squash bisque topped with pumpkin seeds. I also had a Hahn Merlot. Everything was delicious and the Merlot was smooth! Delightful. Service was expedient and courteous and well-timed. It is also a beautiful restaurant as far as design. It was easy to find a close parking spot on a cold night. Enjoyed my date night there. read more

Ordered the 4-way Mac and Cheese and the "King Ranch Casserole" Green Chile and Cheese Stacked Enchiladas along with the Nachos with Salsa and Green Chile...To Go-and I picked up myself. First, they have not updated their menu prices online, which are now approximately 15% higher than listed on their website. Recognizing that prices of most things are increasing rapidly, you still have to keep up folks. Next, the food across the board was super bland. The chef or line cook needs to overcome their fear of salt and seasonings! The Mac and Cheese with bacon and potato strings was substantial but...bland. Even with the bacon, it was still lacking in taste. Two things that it needed a lot more of: Salt and Cheddar Cheese. Not worth the $17.00. The Nachos-eh, they were okay...ordinary. Salsa and Green Chile were bland, even for something labeled "mild". Just lacking in flavor. Finally, and worst of all, the "King Ranch Casserole" Green Chile and Cheese Stacked Enchiladas were almost insulting. They were literally a stack of corn tortillas, about 15-20 high, with a smear of cotija cheese on top that sat on a small bed of cilantro rice, with barely any green sauce and absolutely no filling in-between the tortillas and cut into quarters. Basically a bunch of cooked tortillas stacked on top of each other with little else. Sides of creme fraiche, green chile sauce, guac, and pico de gallo. $42.00 for basic food lacking any flavor or personality is not okay. My $1.99 frozen La Favorita Breakfast Burrito from King Soopers has worlds better flavor than this stuff. Too many restaurants in the bland 'burbs of Highlands Ranch are allowed to get away with this drywall posing as upscale fast-casual food offerings-and charging way too much for it. Do what you like everyone but I won't be back. read more
