I heard about this bakery and followed them on Instagram for a while so I went in to request a smash cake for my daughter's 1st birthday. They have a purple Ube cake that would match the theme perfectly. Before I could get any details out or speak to the baker, they told me I needed to go online to submit a custom order. The cashier told me the smash cake would be a 4" cake and that in order for them (the bakers) to make it, I would also have to order cupcakes too. Online "All Custom orders start at $200 regardless of the size of the order." Plus the cost of cupcakes? The Ube cake is a 6" for $60 and a single cupcake was around $5? I'm all for supporting local and supporting Filipino businesses. I took the time to visit in person but it seemed very unprofessional that not one of the bakers (even seeing me as I was talking with the cashier) came to discuss the details of the order with me in person, what justifies the 3x charge for a custom order for a smaller cake and cupcakes (that I don't need). read more

I've been following Cakeheads for years, love their photos on social media, and was excited to finally have a reason to pop in and order a cake. Welp- this was a less than desirable experience. Upon entering, I was asked what I'm here for. I responded by saying I'm looking for ordering a cake- a birthday cake. The team immediately jumped to say they are not taking any more orders- and that they cannot accommodate. Okay.... I pointed to the bakery case- what about these cakes here? Are they for display or for sale? They replied that they have cakes available everyday. I asked about what flavors they had; I was personally really interested in Ube and Pandan, since they're a Filipino bakery. The staff started to point to cakes on the bottom shelf, very back- like, this was at knee height, so I honestly couldn't tell which cake she was pointing to. When asked if I could buy a sample to better understand what flavors- they accosted me by saying the cupcake flavors do not taste the same as the big cakes. When I asked if I can come in Sunday for a cake, they replied they're closed; but when I asked about Saturday, they seemed bothered that I'd want to come in the day before. Ugh- I tried so hard to work with them. And I really, really went out to try and support small AAPI businesses, but this was just a terrible customer experience. Overall- I felt condescended for not knowing what flavors are available, not knowing how they cakes taste, and that my visit was huge inconvenience to the couple. read more

Been wanting to try their goodies but haven't made it to the storefront yet. I am never able to make it early enough before they run low so I'm waiting. To my delight they catered desserts at the event I attended and I finally got to try the yummy desserts. I selected a chocolate eclair, an ube bar and a what-I-think is strawberry cake. Over the past few years I have purchased from Cakeheads and been more than satisfied. My last experience however. left a bitter taste in my mouth. I ordered a cake on a Tuesday for pick-up on Thursday or Friday. (Website says must have 24 hr. notice, this was well within that time frame). I asked for a small passion-fruit cake (6-8 servings) with a different design, which I knew would be considered a semi-custom and result in some price increase. The signature cake which I paid $60 for in the past now became $125. That is more than 100 per cent increase. Seriously!?! Talk about sticker shock! I left feeling very taken advantage of. Kudos, however, to Denise, the person that waited on me. She was extremely polite and helpful, and a pleasure to engage with. read more

I contacted Cakeheads a week before my wife's birthday to inquire about getting a dozen cupcakes ordered to help with the celebration. I received an e-mail just a few hours after my inquiry giving me details on how to order, prices, varieties available, etc. I got a very good feeling from the friendliness and professionalism of the response, and I was looking forward to doing business with them. I went ahead and ordered the dozen cupcakes my wife and I agreed on, and was able to make payment very easily and quickly online. The afternoon of my wife's birthday, we went to the bakery to pick up our dozen cupcakes, and all I can say is WOW! As you can see in the picture, they are amazing to look at. And as far as eating, they were AMAZING. They were extremely fresh, and the flavors were spectacular. My wife and I travel once a year to Oklahoma City just to go to Pinkitzel for cupcakes (if you know, you know). And honestly Cakeheads was much better. For starters... my cake was excellent BUT not what was ordered. My daughter treated me to a custom cake for my birthday. I ordered a vanilla cake with coconut flakes and lemon curd. IF the coconut was there it went unnoticed... what was for sure was missing with the lemon curd. I called to try and place an order for a gluten free cake because my 3 year old has celiac disease. They told me I had to place the order online and I explained they don't have gluten free as an option on the website. They told me to put it on the notes. My Mom picked the cake up and I asked if she confirmed in person the cake was gluten free and she did not. Something told me to call and confirm and they informed me the cake was not gluten free and they missed the note. They offered an additional gluten free cake to make up for it. When my girlfriend picked it up they said I should've called to place the order, which was funny because I did try that. I called the next day and expressed my frustration and asked for a refund. This bakery does really fantastic work, visually. From what I've tried their food is fresh but way overpriced. I've had both cookies and cake here. Custom cake was beautiful, finished on time, and was what I ordered. Prices have risen over the last year and if you're ordering any kind of cake prepared to spend at least $100 to get what you want, and more like $200 if you're wanting detailed custom. My family has now ordered a full calendar year of birthday cakes, and my graduation cake, from Cakeheads Bakery. We keep coming back because of their delicious and beautifully decorated cakes. However, I do want to highlight a specific event in which I was completely impressed with Cakeheads. Early this March we went in and saw a design in the case that we wanted to incorporate for my mother's birthday cake. Everything was great until the scheduled pickup date.. I went in and asked for my cake and when they brought it out I noticed it was not like the design that we had asked for. I communicated this to staff and they quickly apologized and gave me the option to have them redo the cake in 30 MINUTES! I said yes and went to run more errands. Within 15 minutes I received a call that it was ready to be picked up and even the owner came in to apologize. Some constructive criticism that I had about the situation: While I was impressed with how fast the situation was handled, I don't believe that it is appropriate to place blame on new employees-you are all a team :) On a positive note, the Cakeheads staff has had good customer service and knows how to make some really great cakes. Last I looked these cakes were ridiculously expensive. Also, the one small one I bought was much prettier than it was tasty. The thick layer of decorator's icing was really nasty. We all scraped it off instead of eating it. If you don't care what the cake tastes like, or costs, as long as it's gorgeous to look at, then Cakeheads is the place for you. My husband picked up a couple of cupcakes for my birthday from this bakery. They were reasonably priced ($6 for 2) and had a great flavor. Though dense, my almond cupcake with toasted coconut had a great flavor and was moist and decadent. The frosting was a bit too sweet for my liking but was very tasty. My husband's cookies and cream cupcake was moist, a chocolate lover's dream come true with a tremendous tasting frosting. My friend and I came here around the holidays after eating lunch at a nearby restaurant and wanting something sweet, as well as to check it out, as neither of us had ever been. Honestly, this part of Centennial needed a place like this and it's a great addition! They have a huge variety of cupcakes and other individually-sized sweets displayed in their glass cases, as well as packaged cookies that they make. I bought a small package of gingerbread cookies, which were fresh, clearly made from scratch, and absolutely delicious with just the right amount of molasses taste. My friend is half Jewish and excitedly bought some Hannukah-themed cookies to bring home to her family. We both noted how awesome it is that they have Hannukah-related baked goods in a sea of stores that usually only have Christmas-y sweets. Their specialty is clearly custom cakes, however, as we discovered while paging through the binders displaying cake ideas and their past work. Talk about creative, imaginative, intricate cakes!
