I realized all too late that I hadn't yet ordered a cake for my daughter's Timothee Chalamet themed birthday party, and it was only 2 days before the event. Not only did I not have a cake ordered, but had committed to getting a custom photo cake. I checked with all of the big box folks, and they either didn't make photo cakes anymore or had a long lead time. I called Cakes by Karen on a Thursday, needing a Saturday pickup, and not only were they able to meet my timing needs without an additional fee, but the cake was perfect looking and even better tasting. I purchased a cake for an event one month in advance. I contacted the location on Colorado a week later to see if I would be able to email photos of what we wanted. After a couple emails stating they got the order and asked about color I immediately responded... never got a response. I physically took a hard copy photo to the location and they said they would attach to my PAID invoice. I attempted to confirm the cake decor two days prior again no response. The cake delivered was NOT the cake I requested (see photos) I called the Northglenn location and after about 30 minutes of back and forth to get this rectified Jeff states, "you're just not going to be happy" what?? Excuse me? I am the CUSTOMER who paid for the cake one month in advance and you send me a totally different cake?? I wasn't even offered a discount ... I paid around $115 for the cake and $40+ for delivery ... buyer beware ... there are other gigs in town not to mention the poor customer service on the initial call where the person who takes the orders sounded very bothered that she literally had to do her job!! read more

I had the most amazing experience, not just once but twice in a 3 week timeframe with Cakes By Karen, on Colorado Blvd. Both times I called late in the day ( at 4:55 the 2 nd time) and both times, Diane waited on me. The first cake had to be a purple and chartreuse cake - and it was pretty and tasted fantastic. The cake I picked up today was a Spring Cake and it was beautiful. When I couldn't find my credit card from the day before when I ordered it, she let me pay for when I picked it up. I wrote this review because the whole experience was above and beyond. read more

My daughter has always requested a confetti cake with confetti icing, since she was a toddler. I always make her a box cake and call it hood. This year she turned 40 l, so I decided to get a real cake from a bakery. I called at least 5 places, communicated by email with one place, and they all flaked on me. I ordered a 10" cake one day, picked it up the next and I was so pleased with the result. They went above and beyond my expectations. A 10" cake is very large, by the way, and it fed a crowd. I chose the digital cake for my friend's 50th birthday and she was wearing a tie-dye shirt as a 13-year-old in the picture. They decorated the cake's sides in tie-dye with sprinkles on top and around the base. It was amazing and incredibly fun, and I was so impressed. The cake was a delicious marble cake with mousse filling and buttercream frosting. It was a huge hit and we will order from Cakes by Karen again. I also think $52 for a 10" cake is a bit expensive for a cake. It was decorated beautifully (balloons and a "Happy Birthday" message), and it was ready on time. I'd recommend CBK if you have no desire to go to the grocery store OR if you want something special that they don't make anywhere else. For $36 i could have went to King Soopers.. I ordered A lemon cake with lemon filling and lemon icing. I got a mediocre grocery store cake that was dry, barely no lemon and frosting that was bland. Ordered a Mother's Day cake over Mother's Day weekend. I called this store but because someone didn't turn on their phones my call got transferred to the main bakery which is in Northglenn. Called this store to let them know I'll be picking up the cake in 10 mins to only find out they don't have it. The lady told me to call the main bakery so I did and my cake I ordered was there. As puzzled as I was I checked my call logs and true enough I did call this store. So I rang the main bakery and told them. Now here comes the best part. I asked whether the cake could be delivered to me since they messed up my order. Lady happily with no apology tone said yes delivery would be an extra $30. So not only did they screw up my order they wanted me to pay an extra $30 for delivery. No way in hell was I going to pay that since my cake was about $35. And no cancellation either since cake was made up already which I totally understand. However because of this I did was not able to get the cake for Mother's Day. It was already closed by 3pm on Saturday and they were closed on Sunday. As nice as I was, I told them I would pick up the cake on Monday at this store. When I picked it up no apology nor discount was given either. Cake itself was ridiculously sweet. I ordered the marble cake with Bavarian cream. I will never order my cakes again from this store or their branches. Such poor customer service. Never again! read more
