My daughter graduated from Colorado State University. I was looking for a cake maker and did a simple Google search to find Cakes By Karen. Their website had beautiful cakes, so I decided to go with them. I sent a picture of exactly what I wanted and boy did they deliver! Holy smokes! Did they exceed my expectations! The cake was absolutely stunning and exactly what I ordered. The flavor of the cake with strawberry, and oh my goodness it was probably the best to tasting cake I have ever eaten. It actually had real strawberries in the cake. The texture was super moist. I was blown away by the quality of the cake. I was also blown away by the decorations. Thank you so much Cakes By Karen for exceeding my expectations and making my daughter's grad party memorable. Val provided the best customer service. She was very kind. 1000 out of 10 recommend Cakes By Karen. read more

I called at what had to be after the "very last minute" and Karen (I believe it was Karen herself) was really helpful and patient. The cake itself was spectacular & delicious --and just what we were hoping for. I can't promise she can manage every last minute request but I can tell she'll try to. 5 stars!! read more

OMG! You haven't had cookies until you've had these. I got these at work ones, and I am constantly dreaming about the next time I can have more. These cookies melted in your mouth with sugary goodness, and it is dangerous how easily I can consume them. These cookies are so good, our entire organization has a deal to order them in bulk. While I have never been inside one, I've seen them in strip malls on Colfax and Colorado, which may be the only downfall. I imagine traffic may delay you getting these cookies, but they are worth any wait. read more

Everything about my experience with Cakes by Karen was absolutely amazing! I came about ordering a custom cake with only 3 days advance notice - I am also located in Austin, TX and needed the cake delivered locally to family in Aurora. I worked directly with Val and she was able to answer all of my questions over the phone, helped me design the cake (I was clueless!), took receipt of my custom image, custom messaging, and excellently crafted the creation of an excellent product! The cake itself was beautiful, delicious, and made an incredible addition to the surprise announcement. I called a few other bakeries in the area, but ultimately chose Cakes by Karen because of Val's excellent customer service skills and her assurance that their product would not only meet my expectations, but exceed all of my wants and needs - She was SO RIGHT! Thank you so much Cakes by Karen and Val for helping make our event special and memorable! read more

Not sure how the cake will taste and I will add that later. The I ordered a wedding cake to be picked up at 10:30 when they open but the store hours are 10 am? I get here and then find out the cake is "coming" to this location. It will be here in a hour! Annoying on any other day but today I have a two hour drive to Estes Park for the wedding. What the hell I explained it to the girl who took my order and so I am sitting here waiting for the cake and I will miss the rehearsal for my son's wedding. If you are in need of a cake this might not be the place for you read more

Walked into purchase something sweet today on Saturday about 4-5 pm and was greeted by a horrible woman inside and out . It stunk and was very dirty .Very rude and disrespectful. I wanted to get my brother a cake and I've never had a custom one made before. This this lady at this location was my first experience. First off she made me wait while she finished doing minor things for I assume another customer. Not a big deal. But then as I'm starting the cake details I'm going for I mention that I want it to be a fondant cake. She looked at me and immediately says "well first of all. Do you have that kind of money?" As soon as that fell out of her mouth me and my mother walked out very very upset. And the lady didn't seem to want to fix her actions. Just a loud "im joking". Well miss. Money isn't a joking matter. Either someone has a lot of it or very little of it. It's not your business. What you should have done was say of course! Fondant sounds awesome! No instead you chew your gum in an open mouth manor as you mock me and my mom. Hope I find a better location because she didn't even have a good fun cake vibe. read more

Strawberry cupcakes and 5 star service!!! I LOVE my local Cakes by Karen. While I've never ordered a whole cake, I have bought my weight in cupcakes and brownies. I'm not very happy. I requested a very simple cake to give to my husband as a funny vasectomy gift. The women helping me wrote down to add white sperms for the decorators. I knew the frosting would be ivory and wanted to sperms to be a bit discreet. I picked my cake up today and the sperm are black. Why would you make them black? I paid $50 for this and I really hope it tastes better than it looks. I'm so bummed and wish they would give me a refund or something. read more

Just want to update my previous review. I went back to the shop at my granddaughter's request. She wanted the frosted cookies. Those cookies were beautiful and great tasting, as were the cupcakes. I ordered a baptism cake for my baby girl and everything went smoothly, minus the rude attitude of the woman at the counter taking orders. After a total close to $200, I ordered and picked up the cake a week or so later. The cake said "Good Bless" instead of "God Bless". Very unprofessional and disappointing. When I called to complain, the same rude front desk woman stated that cakes are checked "three times" and all they can do is offer a $10 store credit. My entire family will no longer order from Cakes by Karen. read more

Cakes by Karen did it! They helped give my 12 year old son an awesome anime-themed birthday party that he won't soon forget! Everyone at the party raved about the decor and quality of this cake. Valerie helped me narrow down choices, explained options and sizing, and was patient while I made up my mind. I sent her a couple images of what I wanted and she did everything else over the phone! She was so pleasant to work with and made sure it was everything we wanted. We decided on a round lemon cake with lemon filling, marbled buttercream icing with a partial edible image, and a fondant character on the front. It was so delicious! Cakes are a big deal to me and I'm a tough cake critic, as my mother attended a Wilton cake decorating course when I was very little and always made us fun cakes at home. She has since suffered from nerve damage and is no longer able to do this for us. I learned from her (and am no pro, by any means) but didn't have the time to create anything myself. Thank you, Cakes by Karen, for helping keep our family tradition alive! Cakes by Karen was a win and we'll be back! read more

We ordered a cake for my daughter's birthday. At pick up, the cake was wrong even the instructions provided were correct. The lady was rude and did not want to make any effort in fixing the issue, instead deflected saying that they do not make the cakes there and there was nothing she can do. When I tried to get a hold of "Karen" , well she is not available, of course! After being hung up on once I called back and now wish I hadn't even bothered. The person that answered was rude and when I actually got to someone who would "help" me she was also super rude on the phone. They both acted irritated that I even called to order a cake let alone asked questions about the services that they provide. I expected to pay extra for a 3D cake but I didn't even get into details and the size before they shut me down. Basically told me that the cake would be $400 without even getting the details and hung up on me when I questioned the pricing. Terrible first time impression that I am going to pass along to anyone who asks me for a cake decorator recommendation. read more

I recently moved here and needed a personalized taco cake made for my boyfriends birthday. I found Cakes by Karen in yelp and decided to give them a try. I'm so pleased that I did. I have used Cakes by Karen on multiple occasions for specialty cakes and they have never disappointed. The ordering system is easy (they have a brochure menu with all the cake flavors, frostings, sizes, prices, etc), and the staff is always helpful and available for guidance. You can taste whatever cakes they have in store before you order which is a huge perk --my favorites are the red velvet, carrot, and champagne flavors. If you have an exact picture of the design you want on your cake, just bring a photo in with you and I guarantee they will not fail at bringing your idea to life. All in all, the prices are fair, the cakes are delicious, and the quality is always ON POINT. I will continue to return to this business for all my cake desires. Dear Cakes by Karen I am very disappointed in the cake that you made for my nephew this was supposed to be an amazing cake and it turned out to be way less than that.. the color plan, the layout, the way that it was supposed to be compared to the picture that we gave you... was all messed up..! It was sitting in your refrigerator with no top open absorbing god-knows-what from your frigerators..!!! And when we informed you guys that we were not satisfied.. we were told to go to your main store with the cake.. and when we got there we ask for a refund . you informed us you would not give us one.. $120 for an absolute disaster... You have completely lost our business.. for life..!! Our families,,, families,, families.. and all Generations after that ... Will never give you business ..!! I'm super displeased with the cake I received. Not only was the attendant rude when I attempted to look at the cake but when I took the cake out of TJ box it was leaning and lopsided. The quality was not what I anticipated for my husbands 30th birthday and they didn't even check to see whether or not I was pleased with the product. The store was closed when I realized how awful the end result was or I would have taken it back. It ended up being less than 3 miles away from my home and i drove slow and carefully. read more
