I wanted to get my brother a cake and I've never had a custom one made before. This this lady at this location was my first experience. First off she made me wait while she finished doing minor things for I assume another customer. Not a big deal. But then as I'm starting the cake details I'm going for I mention that I want it to be a fondant cake. She looked at me and immediately says "well first of all. Do you have that kind of money?" OMG! You haven't had cookies until you've had these. I got these at work ones, and I am constantly dreaming about the next time I can have more. These cookies melted in your mouth with sugary goodness, and it is dangerous how easily I can consume them. These cookies are so good, our entire organization has a deal to order them in bulk. While I have never been inside one, I've seen them in strip malls on Colfax and Colorado, which may be the only downfall. I came about ordering a custom cake with only 3 days advance notice - I am also located in Austin, TX and needed the cake delivered locally to family in Aurora. I'm not very happy. I requested a very simple cake to give to my husband as a funny vasectomy gift. The women helping me wrote down to add white sperms for the decorators. I knew the frosting would be ivory and wanted to sperms to be a bit discreet. I picked my cake up today and the sperm are black. Why would you make them black? Cakes by Karen did it! They helped give my 12 year old son an awesome anime-themed birthday party that he won't soon forget! Everyone at the party raved about the decor and quality of this cake. Valerie helped me narrow down choices, explained options and sizing, and was patient while I made up my mind. I sent her a couple images of what I wanted and she did everything else over the phone! She was so pleasant to work with and made sure it was everything we wanted. We decided on a round lemon cake with lemon filling, marbled buttercream icing with a partial edible image, and a fondant character on the front. It was so delicious! Cakes are a big deal to me and I'm a tough cake critic, as my mother attended a Wilton cake decorating course when I was very little and always made us fun cakes at home. She has since suffered from nerve damage and is no longer able to do this for us. I learned from her (and am no pro, by any means) but didn't have the time to create anything myself.
