Sad part there was another person who was a friend of the owner waiting as well and we were a party of 3. Gave it another shot and came by on Sunday, store supposed to open at 12 ~ closed, went to eat, came back by at 12:30, closed still. So far I bought a wooden coffee table that was $55 and an upholstered bench with iron sides that was $75. Tell me, where can you get good quality furniture pieces for those prices in NYC? Plus, since I carried both pieces out of the store (when I say carry, I mean my stepfather picked it up and put it in his car), ETG gave me a 10% discount. The coffee table did have a few scratches on the sides and a round water stain (coasters, people!) in the middle. I brought it home, sanded/stained the top and painted the bottom part white...it looks freaking amazing now! The bench is my next project, just have to find the right fabric then I'm going to spray paint it black. ETG is actually 2 buildings so make sure you visit both. Check out their website too. All were carefully curated and displayed. My only dismay was not being aware of the important work the shop does as a non-profit before I randomly popped in as I was enjoying a stroll for some "me" time during a busy family trip. The woman with glasses, who I assume was the "manager/owner", was very passive aggressive with me and came off disrespectful and unwelcoming. I overheard her negotiating pricing on some items with other customers and when I was ready with my two vintage cameras (to be used for decor/props) and one pretty beat up purse (all totaling $75 w/o tax), I inquired if they were willing to do $70 for all. I wasn't sure what taxes the city/state charged so I wanted to be sure had enough on my card (a visa gift card a friend gave me when I was diagnosed with cancer) to cover the taxes. She loudly and obnoxiously replied "NO. WE DON'T HAGGLE HERE". I found it repulsive and aggressive when I had been so overly kind and impressed with the shop during my visit. It certainly caught me off guard. Especially after hearing her indeed "negotiate" pricing with other guests. She didn't even make eye contact with me but made sure to speak her words loud enough to try to embarrass me. I was not embarrassed, rather appalled and disgusted. So much so that I recalled other travelers from my party and told them not to come down to the shop. On the other hand, the two male clerks working with me were so kind, lovely and helpful during my visit. Kudos to them for staying pleasant and gracious in that moment that was intended for ugliness. While the encounter at the very end of my trip soured my visit, I would still encourage others to go and I will likely be back again next time. After visiting their website trying to figure out what I did wrong, I see that the work they do is impactful.

The prices are higher than other thrift stores like goodwill, unique, etc. but they do offer an extra discount on certain colored tags. This is the second inspirations location I've visited and I would definitely come back. I got a gorgeous wool-like coat for 28$, which again is more pricey than the typical thrift, but it's in great condition and is super cute so I think it's worth it! This store is not huge, the women's section is the first floor, there's a few steps up which leads you to the shoes, men's, and kids areas. The shoes also had great brands like doc Martin, Michael Kors, DKNY. The purses were good as well! I'd definitely come back!
