Wasn't sure if the man who worked there just had a terrible personality, and is usually rude, unwelcoming , unfriendly or was it because of my what I looked like. There was an item on the wall that caught my interest, remove it off the wall as it was for sale, but I wanted to inspect it further. As I removed the item, the piece that held it on the wall fell, not the item it self but a piece of wire. He comes over and with a very rude tone tells me, not to take anything down if I don't have too, " it's the reason I took it down to begin with" as I couldn't tell what it was. I told him there was no sign indicating not to remove anything off the wall, and he responds by telling me there's signs in other places and he can't put them everywhere. Very distasteful and regret spending my money there. I usually like to match people's energy but at the time felt like he wasn't worth my energy. A better approach: Hi ma'am, can I help you with that, we unfortunately recommend not taking things off the wall, instead ask for assistance and I'll be glad to help. Work on your attitude sir, and if it was because of what I looked like. Then that even more terrible. I will also be telling my family members not to ever shop there again!

I would recommend this place only for window shopping the immense collection of "ahem" antiques…read morethey have. But much of the antiques are frankly just extremely overpriced junk. There were a lot of items which were stained and broken but they still have the audacity to charge actual money for it. One of the men who works there made me never want to buy anything in that place ever again. I found an old trinket which was quite overpriced for what it was and I asked for a couple of dollars less. The amount of rudeness I got back I didn't expect! It's not like people are buying this junk left and right. It just sits there for years and years! My offer was not at all unreasonable. But one of the men who works there makes the antique shopping experience so unpleasant that I'm done shopping there. It's just entertaining to walk around and I come in mainly for the nice cafe in the back... If you want great antiques at fair prices, this is definitely not the place to buy!

So without much thought at all I declared that we needed to go inside and started across the street. What could Dad say? He gave me a look that clearly said "you're weird" and followed me in. Once inside we were greeted by dozens of items that I swear are in my Grandfathers basement right now. Dad must have been reading my mind b/c he actually said "I think you're grandfather has a couple of those in the basement" while pointing to a set of vinyl suitcases. The entire store is filled, floor to ceiling, with vintage pieces of all sizes and shapes. Big ticket items like tables, chairs and trunks to smaller accessories of baskets & picture frames. The layout and arrangement made it hard to navigate the store and what was more confusing was the location (I think) of the cash register & counter area... It's hidden behind a huge pile of stuff so you can't even see the front door if you're sitting behind the counter. Oh and we were in the shop for a good ten minutes and I don't think I saw the owner/manager once. I though that was weird.. and I can't forget to mention- I found the store to have a bit of a musty smell... which makes sense if you think about the items inside. While I don't think I'd purchase anything it was a cool shop to walk through and brought back memories of Gramps. If you're looking for some nostalgia- stop by Trailer Park

After realizing that I sure as hell can't afford Express and…read moreBanana Republic, and wanting to up my clothing game a little (paring down to basics), I went to arguably the most popular thrift store on Staten Island. Upon arrival, wife and baby in tow, they asked me to please leave my beverage at the desk, not politely, but not necessarily rudely. Aloof, I suppose. Sure. Then they also asked to leave my diaper bag. Eh, uh, okay. Immediately put off. What if my baby needs a bottle? I gotta go all the way back to the front? Little did I know that there was only one floor available, so my annoyance was relatively unjustified. But still, coulda been nicer. In the store itself, it is very well curated, organized far better than the Salvation Army I struggled to search through. The men's section was bustling with good deals for vests, suit pants, and basic button downs. They also had a variety of athletic jerseys, swim trunks, and ties (which I found relatively overpriced). Side story: midway, I struck a conversation with the same aloof cashier previously mentioned, and she turned out to be very kind and funny. So, there's that. There was also a very nice young lady stocking in the aisles. The outcome was small, but great: a button down for less than three dollars, and these perfectly fitting shorts for less than seven. From, yeah, Banana Republic. The icing on the cake that really sells this place is their flyer in the front that showcases other thrift stores on the island you might not have known about. Stop here first and foremost, try not to spend all your money, and peruse the other shops!
