So many great reviews and recommendations on this store but came by on my visit from Miami 4x's and not open. First two times there was a sign out front "be back in 5 minutes" and 30 minutes later no return. Sad part there was another person who was a friend of the owner waiting as well and we were a party of 3. Gave it another shot and came by on Sunday, store supposed to open at 12 ~ closed, went to eat, came back by at 12:30, closed still. This is the only thrift spot I go to anymore-- combination of the vibe, management, and curation keep me coming back. I've picked up at least 8-10 cool pieces from this spot. To spend on stuff I want but don't need or not to spend? That is the question I ask myself every time I walk into Vintage on First. This cute little boutique is on my way home from work, so I stop in a lot. I fell in love with their selection at their first location, which was just across the street. It's run by Mark, an amazing guy who you'll get to know from your first time in the shop. Super down to Earth, he'll talk to you about all of the new pieces and the ones he is most excited about. I love shopping vintage so much but am not really a big fan of the totally "out there" styles that most vintage shops carry, so I don't always walk into the dressing room with an arm full of clothes. The pieces that I have gotten from them over the years, however, have becomes staples in my wardrobe. I've gotten everything from an amazing pair of jeans to a denim mini dress to my treasured pair of YSL sunglasses. This isn't a thrift store, so it isn't just filled with pieces that someone didn't want in their closet. It is a true vintage shop filled with pieces Mark and his wife hunted down and hand selected. That's what I love about it. Even if a particular piece isn't for me, I know that the owners had in mind a certain person it one day would be for. One of the best things about this place is there is no pressure. They'll tell you when something looks insanely great and also when it just doesn't have the right fit. Again, it's not a thrift store, so prices are on the higher side. My usual spend for at piece is about $60, but it has been a lot higher and it's been a lot lower. A few times I've had to put something back just because I couldn't justify the price for the piece but I can't tell you the number of times I've stopped back in and bought something I tried on weeks ago because I just couldn't stop thinking about it. The quality & selection of clothing here is unmatched. I don't think I've ever been to a vintage clothing store with a quality that Vintage on First offers. It's a small shop but there are so many gems!This is not a thrift store. I repeat this is NOT a thrift store,so you will not find anything below $40 here, the one piece of clothing that I did manage to find below 40 was a T-shirt that was $38.The most expensive thing that I saw here were pair of jeans and they were about $500. So if you're looking to be frugal this is not the place for you. I didn't end up getting anything when I visited but I definitely plan on coming back and gifting myself a shopping spree here.The place is clean and it smells so nice, it's really organized. Although the clothing is not organized by size when I visited the woman that was working there told me that she was hired just to organize the clothing, so soon enough everything will be in order by size. One of my favorite spots to frequent when in Hoboken. Close to the Path train & An awesome variety of everything from old school hip hop & sports apparel, to women's vintage dresses.
