This is my go to Chinese delivery place. It's normally just what you would expect from ordering Chinese. The only thing preventing the 5th star is that the soups are often cold and the food is often not hot when it arrives or when I pick it up. I think this is because they just pack the bag and leave it on the front counter without a warmer or anything and they don't give very good time frames of when your food is actually going to be ready. So I want to love Okinawa, but I just can't and I really struggle with whether or not to give it a 1 or a 2 stars. So food wise, I don't have a problem here - it is pretty middle of the road, not disgusting, not stellar...I can live with it. For the Chinese food, prices are more than reasonable and you get a great amount of food for the lunch specials. The Japanese food....a bit more ridiciulously priced, but I can deal with it if it comes out well prepared and usually it does. My problems here really lie with service. My sister has had much different service experiences here and has always had great service...she also tends to dine in, whereas most of my Oki experiences are delivery or pick-up. I have had 2 instances of awful service and that is more than what I need to really make me want to choose to go back myself...if others choose to get it I guess I will go along with it cause like I said, food is not bad. For an order pick-up, we got there like 5 minutes after they said it would be ready to give extra time, and then I waited 10 minutes for someone to even come to the counter to acknowledge me being there, and then another 15 minutes for the order to be ready because it still wasn't. Maybe if this was the first time that I had to wait an outlandish amount of time for an order their I wouldn't have cared, but pick-ups have never been ready at promised time there....at least in my experience. At my job we called 2 hours in advance to let them know what time we wanted the order for and we also knew we are at the border of where they stop delivering and wanted to give them plenty of time. First, the order came over a half hour after the scheduled time. The bigger offense here is that one person in our group ordered the chicken roll off the appetizer menu. Chicken roll includes: Rolled by slice chicken, asparagus, cheese, carrot, scallion inside then deep fried...nowhere in there does it say anything about crab meat....keep this in mind for just a second. The person who ordered it has a shellfish allergy. Luckily she saw it right away and had me try to confirm it was, in fact, crab...and it was. So she called back Oki to speak with them about this and see if that was standard for crab meat to come in there since the menu does not reference that. They said crab meat was a standard ingredient in the roll, to which she asked why it was not listed since shellfish is a common allergy and they said it did not need to be listed, it should just be understood that it is in there. Oh really...everytime i order chicken roll, I always expect to see crab too. So she asked if they could make her one without crab meat and they first said they did not know how they could do that, and then talked with a manager who said they could and shortly after it arrived. So I still have no idea whether crab meat really is in this chicken roll or not, or if someone made it wrong and was just trying to cover it up, or it they just do a really bad job listing ingredients on their menu. By the way....the bite I took with crab meat in the roll.....blech - crab meat does not belong in there anyway. And their shotty customer service in this regard really left a lot to be desired. read more

I've been here quite a few times over the past 7 years, but I just visited last week for the fist time in at least a year. It used to be that you could count on them for mediocre sushi rolls at a decent price. After my last visit, I will never return. The quality is terrible. I ordered a lunch box special that included: - miso soup : lukewarm and not flavorful - salad : fine Rolls (small portions): - smoked salmon: I had to ask if it was canned tuna! super dry and salty - eel/avocado : Slivers of eel which was dry and, again, not flavorful. The avocado was most of the roll and dripping wet from being rinsed. - spicy tuna roll: yikes -- the roe was fine, the rest had no flavor and who knows what it actually was as the roe covered both the bottom and top of each piece The rice was not cooked well and the tiny seaweed wraps did not stay together. Our office ordered from Okinawa. It was a train wreck. Food arrived after 2 hours. They completely got one of our orders wrong, and two of us felt sick after our meals. We called to tell them they had delivered the wrong order, and they refused to fix it. I would never order from this place again. read more

The sushi is surprisingly good for being located in a ghetto strip mall. The service is God awful but quality of fish is great.

I like this place. The food is good - not what you would call the most authentic Asian food, but very tasty nonetheless. If you go, request a seat up on the railed platform area as the tables on the floor are in the thoroughfare of the to go orders being run back and forth - many of which appeared to be incorrect last night and people kept running back and forth and shouting to each other - it was like getting dinner and a floor show. I like the honeyed walnut shrimp - generous portion. The sushi is very well presented. Tsing Tao beer refill was Heineken - both in green bottles - dining companion drank it anyway - easier that way. The service is not as good as it used to be. But it is a good neighborhood place nonetheless and you will have an enjoyable meal here. read more

I have never had such fresh sushi in Upstate New York. Not only was the fish fresh, but even the vegetables tasted super fresh. This place was way out of the way for me, but it was worth the trip. My only question is, why Wynantskill? This place has a lot going for it. They have Chinese and Japanese fare. The sushi is spectacular. Why Wynantskill? I guess thats where the tacky decor just happened to fit best. Either way, they are usually pretty busy, but their is almost always at least one table waiting for you when you get there. This is by far one of the best sushi places in the area. It is reasonably priced and the quality is superb! This is my go to place for sushi. I highly recommend the valentine roll! The wait staff is kind of small, so sometimes there is a wait to getting your drinks refilled and your food getting out. Bring friends and catch-up with each other. Im not from the area, but was looking for a sushi place close by. Walking in, the atmosphere was nice. We were greeted warmly and then seated. We ordered plum wine and sake to start with. The house plum wine was delicious, the house sake on the other side was not. We ordered the mushroom and clam soups which were great. The sushi rolls were mediocre, nothing special. Our waitress Courtney was really great about letting us return the sake and change the order and did not charge us for the sake. I have eaten at Okinawa and ordered in before. I ordered a quart of chicken mei fun tonight for $9.50. There was not even a half of shredded carrot or a half of chicken breast. I started coming to Okinawa about two and a half years ago. I thought the quality and service were very good and that it was one of the better places in the capital region. During my last trip I was very disappointed. The place has really gone downhill. The waitress was a little rude and forceful, and the restaurant messed up my order, sushi and sashimi for two, and brought out only the sushi. This is actually the second time this has happened. The first time the waitress realized it after she brought it out; the second, we had to point it out. The quality of the food was still decent, but definitely not what it used to be. I don't think our dish was worth the $50 at all. I have also ordered take out, and when I order a la carte I find I can get a better price for exactly what I want. However, I haven't been ordering as much as there are better places that are cheaper in the area. I probably won't be eating in again, though. read more

We live in town and have been frequenting Okinawa for many years now. It's our go-to place in town on nights when we just don't feel like cooking. While the service is a little slow, the staff is adorably pleasant and attentive. The food has always been top notch and incredibly fresh...top of the list for a place that serves raw food. This place has NEVER and I repeat NOT ONCE messed up my delivery order, and I have ordered from there at least a dozen times. The restaurant itself is in a strip mall type area but don't let that fool you, it is quite cozy and relaxing inside. Since I normally only ever order sushi I can only attest to that one cuisine type. However, the sushi is always delicious and well made with excellent flavors and the wasabi is really good. Delivery comes within 30 minutes normally (I live about 3-4 miles away) and is always delivered with a friendly smile. We eat in and order delivery from this place all the time. I haven't had a bad experience yet. The food is always fresh and well prepared whether it's the Japanese or the Chinese (which is awesome by the way they have both and they're equally well done). Whenever we dine in the service is hit and miss in terms of sushi knowledge and communication barriers. Everyone is always friendly though. The sushi chefs are always accommodating, and friendly as well. We usually sit at the sushi bar when we dine in and have often made small talk or asked the chef questions. They even specially prepare this roll my boyfriend gets which isn't on the menu but instead inside some personal notebook one of the chefs use. So if you have any requests just ask them. Always friendly when they deliver the food and it's prompt. Compared to other places, even the more popular ones, this place blows them out of the water. Try their tempura. read more

I have ordered from here a few times, its always just been mediocre. I ordered today tuna avacado, philly roll, and an eel roll. What I had delivered was not edible. The rice was soft as if it was over saturated with water, the sushi tasted old like it had been sitting for days. I threw it out half way through eating. I am not the type of person to complain about what I eat, but this was so appalling I wrote a review. This disgusting old left out sushi that was delivered to me cost $20. It's been awhile since I've ordered from Okinawa. And it may be my last. Okinawa had that special fresh taste that you wouldn't taste anywhere else. The food was excellent. The food I got today very very bad quality. It's almost like they have a new Chef or cook in the Kitchen. Egg rolls were greasy, lo mein is not cooked well sesame chicken like something was missing. My boyfriend and I started going to Okinawa after our regular sushi place closed. I typically prefer sushi from a real Japanese restaurant, but Okinawa had good sushi. The fish was fresh, the special rolls were tasty and inspired and the service was excellent. Then something happened. The sushi chef disappeared and the waitstaff completely changed. The sushi was not quite right and the wait staff couldn't seem to get the orders right. I am more than forgiving for an occasional off night, but after three off nights I'll find some place else to get my sushi fix. Okinawa is a good place to go and the prices are reasonable. It's simple inside and they have good food, nice sized portions.

I have eaten take out from Okinaway before, but this past weekend was my first time dining in the restaurant. My mother and I decided to dine at Okinawa because it is close by and we had a coupon. Upon arriving at the restaurant, we were promptly seated at a table and provided two waters to drink. Glancing over the menu, the prices seemed very reasonable and the dishes sounded creative and appetizing. The waitress at our table was very pleasant, friendly and quickly brought the hot tea we ordered to our table. I ordered the seafood platter which included shrimp, scallops, broccoli, baby corn and noodles with a side of white rice. My mother ordered a beef platter with broccoli, carrots, noodles and a side of white rice as well. Both dishes were delivered sizzling to the table within 15 minutes. My seafood platter was cooked very well. The shrimp was juicy and tender. The broccoli was soft and the scallops melted in my mouth. My mother's beef dish was well balanced and thoroughly cooked. The beef was delicious and easy to chew. I would absolutely recommend Okinawa restaurant to anyone who enjoys Chinese cuisine. read more
