It was cold so I wanted to get some ramen. I've been trying new places for new experiences. I dined in and ordered the chicken ramen. It didn't have much description so I ended up eating a strange tasting egg, a half chicken cutlet that was boiled and overcooked noodles. I spend half the time picking out vegetables I didn't know came with it, and the other half staring out the window for the view. Overall the staff were indifferent and the food was ok. read more

A bit of a bizarre dining experience. The interior decor was pretty with light wood paneling and ocean wall art. Small sushi bar at the back. No tap water was available for drinking- you had to buy their bottled water which was 50 cents. The miso soup for dine in came in the styrofoam takeout cup. Sushi plates were made out of plastic. The trio of rolls I got- spicy salmon, alaska, and eel- were good though. They had some nice lunch specials on the menu. Not sure if I'd come back due to the overall dining experience. read more

Ordered takeout via DoorDash from this restaurant. The food was really tasty. I really appreciated that I could get a specialty roll that had a base that was something other than California roll. As a person who tries to follow a gluten-free diet, it always bums me out that so many sushi places think that doing a California roll with that gluten containing fake crab meat is somehow a good idea. We stumbled upon this place when our initial option was too full, and after our experience I can't believe how empty this place was. Firstly, this is a byob establishment so one of us stayed back to order while the other stopped by at a close by store to get some beers and seltzers. There's a very nice lunch menu with a variety of options (i think it's until 3pm) so we ordered from it. I also noticed that there were a lot of take out orders during our stay so that's an option if you don't want to make the trip. We started with the maki combo rolls any 3 special sushi and it tasted great and fresh! I especially enjoyed the spicy tuna and eel rolls. Next, we got the NY steak hibachi, which came with some vegetables and rice on the side. Then we tried the tatsusa-age which tasted like nuggets but slightly crunchier. We enjoyed all our orders and left very satisfied. Our waiter was super fast with all our orders and was very attentive. There was also a lot more on the menu that we didn't even get to, the options are very wide here! Definitely stop by for some amazing and affordable lunch options if you're in the area! read more

Yessssssss, they've been open about a month so far and I have nothing but good things to say! They have a giant menu online if you are looking to eat. The doordash/grubhub menu is a short version of all their options. I've ordered the same thing twice now because it was so good the first time. The first time we doordashed and the sushi was great. The second time we ordered I went and picked it up because I wanted to see this place for myself. It was super cute and clean inside! Ps: if you call and order the prices are much better than what is on grubhub/doordash. I saved $10 before the delivery fee by picking it up myself!.. Great fresh sushi. Started with the takoyaki, and got the sashimi sampler. Friends got the ramen, which was also good. Overall, fresh ingredients and nice chill environment. The pricing is also fair for what you are getting. About $15 for the sashimi and $15 for a bowl or ramen. Love tax free Delaware! I've ordered here twice for a Friday office lunch with other coworkers grabbing the Benton Box C before but this time decided to grab the Hibachi Lunch with Salmon and Chicken. The group ordered Benton Box A, Hibachi Lunch with Shrimp, 3 Roll Sushi Special, Chicken Ramen and Edamame. My coworker stated that they used a couple packets for soy sauce for their Chicken Ramen but still stated that it was watered down and no amount of seasoning was going to save it. Edamame was fair but didn't finish the whole item. Based on the fact that my other coworker didn't finish much of the meal for the Hibachi Lunch with Shrimp I assumed she didn't like it. When I had placed the ordered I requested that the hibachi chicken that comes standard with the dish be placed in a side container as she didn't want to eat the chicken just the shrimp. Instead the order taken over the phone was a whole new meal Hibachi Chicken and rice with soup for $7. I guess I have another meal from Oishii that I wasn't really wanting to have. I had the Hibachi Salmon with more chicken, salmon, cooked veggies and fried rice. My coworker said before that the last time they ordered the meal it was too peppery but this time it was too bland and I had to add the creamy ginger dressing that usually comes with salad on it to enhance the flavor. I was surprised that there was no salad with our meals but 2 different soups with our meals that just didn't make sense. I had to mix up with the salmon with the teriyaki glaze that came with it so balance the dryness of the salmon that was a little overcooked to my liking. Didn't hear any issues with the Benton box but always nice to have a variety of items to choose from but I prefer more meats than veggie tempura especially if they are not bite size like it should be sometimes. My last coworker had a small complaint with their Philadelphia roll being too close to the other hot meals and starting to warm it up. I would have put the sushi on the top with a cardboard to try to keep the heat away. I haven't been in to sit down and see what it is like but it seems to do a lot between Cajun food and Japanese food. I would focus on execution on signature items that are offered to the busy lunch time. read more

Sushi rolls were great, even though it was on the high price, but they were surprisingly tasty, if only the interior can be made brighter then it'll be great and also very hard to see from the street what the inside of the restaurant. My boyfriend got burned from the tempura in the bento box. Apparently they take it straight from the fryer and to the table. Never shake the extra oil off and then told my boyfriend that "you ordered hot food so maybe you need to be careful". The sad thing is we NEVER complain on anything but resulting in a burn where it's bubbling.... Come on. Take caution with the fried foods here and as a recommendation.... We were HUNGRY and thought we'd be good with just this but after the 1 bag of seafood that came with 0.5 pounds of sausage, two corn cobs, and two potatoes, we were still hungry and ordered another Cajun combo with mussels and shrimp (we also asked for more potato and corn). Sushi was amazing. Best I've had in the area. Fresh and the portions were fairly big. The ginger sauce, eel sauce and spicy mayo were full of flavor. This place is definitely worth a try. If you don't like sushi, give the Hibachi a try. read more

The food was pretty delicious. Very fresh tasting. We got the tempura and gyoza appetizers, sunset roll, out of control roll, and Hawaii roll, and then the sausage fried rice. Everything was very nice, aside from one thing; the seaweed the sushi was wrapped it was completely impossible to bite through. It was like a weird rubbery texture--couldn't bite through it and would chew it forever, so we evened up eating our sushi around it. Flavor-wise, the sushi itself was fresh and delicious. They also had fantastic customer service. I even overheard them very politely helping a (imo very annoying) girl with some kind of food intolerance that she only mentioned after her food got there. Anyway, I would go back again. I hope next time the seaweed is easier to chew. read more

A friend ended up taking me along after a night of volleyball and it's become one of my go to places. The miso soup is fantastic and has become a staple in any meal I get. Their gyoza is also great and I've made my way through several entrees that are equally good. I'm partial to the salmon lover roll (because have u ever seen one this cute?!??? Picture attached). The service is super quick and very friendly. It's a super welcoming and warm atmosphere. I honestly have nothing negative to say about the place The seating is great for groups and individuals. Limited choice of beverages is strange I've ordered takeout bento boxes many times from OIshii Ocean. As Japanese food goes the prices are very affordable, the food is fairly standard and the location on Main Street is good. However, sitting down for a meal was a strange experience. This restaurant does not serve hot tea!! How is that possible in any asian restaurant? So I got a bottle of unsweetened ice tea. Things got even weirder when I asked for an ice water. The waitress was polite but could not serve me water unless I ordered bottled water? Over my lifetime I've eaten at thousands of restaurants. I can't recall another restaurant that was unable to serve a paying customer (I had the salmon Bento box) water with a meal. read more

Very fresh sushi and good rolls. I think they are the best near Newark. I really like the Fancy Dragon roll. The Bento boxes and Hibachi were also a hit. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The chicken udon was also good. I am going to be a regular. I have not tried the Cajun seafood. read more

I haven't found a lot of good sushi in Newark, but Oishii Ocean is consistently solid. The Atlantic roll doesn't disappoint. The hibachi lunch combos are a bargain, with good quality meat, well-prepared, and portions large enough for leftovers. The ginger sauce is excellent. Nice people too. read more
