Extremely disappointed with our recent visit to Kiku in Middletown. We ordered hibachi for my son, and the kitchen got the order wrong. He had to sit and wait through our entire lunch while we ate, only for the corrected order to still be wrong when it finally came out. When we brought this up to management, there was no apology or accountability. Instead, we were told it was basically our fault for "ordering the wrong food." On top of that, their card machine was down, which added another 20 minutes to an already frustrating visit. I understand equipment issues happen and are not entirely their fault, but the way we were treated afterward was unacceptable. This isn't the first time the food here has been mediocre. Unless you're desperate for sushi, I would skip this place. The customer service alone is enough reason to go elsewhere. read more

A group of coworkers and I came for dinner. We were a party of 10 and we had to wait to be seated until our entire party arrived. The wait staff was very attentive, constantly checking to see if we needed drink refills. Our orders were taken and our appetizers came out shortly thereafter. A while later, the chef came to our table and put on a great show while cooking our food. It was very entertaining and the food was tasty. We all had a great time. We celebrated two family birthdays here this visit and they were very accommodating to us. Most of our party arrived way after our reservation time and they did not have seat us at all. Thank you! The staff again was amazing! They were very busy and even ordering starters, all of our food was served very timely. Everything was fresh tasting and very good tasting. Our cook was fun and entertaining. The restaurant itself is quite fresh looking and modern. Like I said the food was delicious I don't think you can go wrong ordering anything here and no one walked away hungry! We will be back again when meeting with family in this area. read more

1 Star - Extremely Disappointing Experience My experience at Kiku's was honestly one of the worst restaurant experiences I've ever had. When my daughter and I were seated, the table had clearly just been used for a birthday party and had not been cleaned. There were still crumbs and mess left behind, and I had to ask staff to come wipe the table down before we could even sit comfortably. Things only got worse from there. After waiting much longer than expected, I found out my actual meal had been forgotten. Instead, they prepared an entire crab order that I never ordered. This was especially concerning because my daughter has a shellfish allergy, making the mistake more than just an inconvenience. The biggest issue came when it was time to pay. My bill should have been approximately $53 for myself and my 6-year-old daughter. Instead, I was charged for someone else's order totaling over $120 for four people. After bringing the mistake to their attention, rather than properly correcting it, they charged my card again instead of refunding the incorrect amount. I was then told there was "nothing they could do" about it. Between the dirty table, forgotten meal, incorrect food order, allergy concerns, and billing errors, the level of service was completely unacceptable. Mistakes can happen anywhere, but the lack of accountability and unwillingness to fix the situation was the most frustrating part. I would not recommend this restaurant based on my experience and hope management takes steps to improve both customer service and billing procedures so other customers don't have to go through the same ordeal read more

I have a shellfish allergy and I specifically told them to please be aware that I have a shellfish allergy. The allergy is really severe and I could die if I eat shrimp or get near it. Have been here many times but the food was different. The miso soup is usually a clear broth. This soup was more like a yellowish broth and was salty. The hibachi chicken, shrimp and all the veggies tasted the same once they were slathered in what I believe was teriyaki sauce. Not sure why they no longer use garlic butter which tastes much better. Hostess was very rude. We were told a 20-30 minute wait time. Sat there an hour just for them to ignorantly say you have 3 parties ahead of you. I get it it's busy but lying about wait times is messed up. Was trying to have a celebration dinner for my son and instead was expected to wait 2+ hrs. Went for the hibachi experience for my sisters birthday and it was incredible food and experience! So much food for a reasonable price! I got the steak and shrimp combo and loved it! Chef was fun and interactive. The rice was so incredible and my leftovers held up the next day. 10/10! read more

We've been here three times and each meal has been worse. We had hope, but ugh, no. Fishy tuna and salmon, eel rolls drenched in the sticky, sickly sweet "eel" sauce of cheap sushi establishments. My Kirin beer was skunky but I figured that was in keeping with the rest of such a meal. The "ginger" dressing on the salad made us gag. It looked like gloppy orange pulp but we both tried to eat it. This was my first time at Kiku. I was extremely impressed by the amount of Covid safety features that took place. The handless thermometer, only letting one person in at a time to be seated, handwhipes and a bag for your mask when you sit down! The rock shrimp was some of the best I've had in a long time! A little on the spicy side but I definitely enjoyed it. The sweet potato roll was yummy and the rock 'n' roll was good but I wasn't a big fan of the sauce on top it tasted a little bit like barbecue sauce. Won't be ordering that one again! read more

I found this hidden gem online and saw it gotten really good reviews on goggle. My husband I decided to try this place out. On Sundays they have no specials which was a bummer. First off, the place is clean and abiding all precautions with hands free temperature screening, hand sanitization, and even a baggie to place your mask in. Conveniently located next to Kohl's. Was just expecting a typical Japanese's steakhouse when I walked in. But once I saw the menu, I was very surprised with the different varieties they offer here. Their sushi look amazing, but we were feeling hibachi today. So we ordered the seafood yaki udon, hibachi filet mignon and Japanese fried spring roll (never seen this anywhere else, very excited to try this dish but slightly disappointed myself. It is filled with imitation crab, cheese and one asparagus, the taste is rather bland. And I am not a big fan of the sweet and sour sauce (with orange scent). The seafood yaki udon is below average in my opinion, other than real shrimp, other seafood are like imitation crab, fake fish ball things. The vegetables are not cut well, it looks like the chef just chop it randomly and throw it in. The plating looks great but taste is so- so On the other hand, the hibachi filet mignon tastes much better. But nothing too special about it. This is a prime example of accurate price point for accurate quality. The sushi selection was great, drinks were well made and fun, and while we did not eat the hibachi however everyone that sat at the flat grill were very engaged and we kept hearing loss of laughter and ohh and ahh. Had variety of their and all were fresh, although they did not have any uni but to be fair, it was a Monday. We also had the spicy tuna and spicy hamachi rolls and they were good balance of rice to fish. Lastly we had their geisha kids drink and shared a scorpion bowl. Mediocre. The hibachi (this is a misnomer, it's actually teppanyaki) is run of the mill. Calling it hibachi is also how you know it isn't owned nor run by Japanese people, even tho they claim it's a Japanese steakhouse. The food was lacking basic seasoning (salt & pepper), and instead relied on watered-down sake and low-sodium soy sauce for the seasoning. Something to note: a couple of us upgraded our selection to filet mignon for $3, but the others in our party ordered the standard steak. All the steak looked the same, and I watched the chef slice it all together and serve us from the same pile of steak. Waste of $3. Save your money, cuz there's no need to upgrade to filet. While the steak, shrimp, and scallops were perfectly cooked, some of the veg needed to cook a little longer and also needed seasoning. Salt and pepper are fundamental in most cuisines, including Asian-style cooking even when soy sauce is included in a recipe. Overall, the experience was decent but much of that was our group. Unfortunately, this restaurant is probably one of the lesser of this type that I've been to over the last few decades from west to east coasts. I would go again if friends wanted, but it's not one I would select. Oh! And notice the 2 $20s in the cup? The chef behind him had the same thing. Came here for date night with my husband :) we sat at regular table but was able to order hibatchi We got the calamari with a plum chili type of sauce. The calamari was okay...alittle chewy and not as crispy as I would like and the sauce tasted like a strange bbq/teriyaki type sauce which I'm not use to having with calamari. We both got the same hibatchi meal - filet with shrimp. When we got our meals we were pretty impressed ! We got tons of fried rice, veggies and plenty of meat and shrimp. Our waiter was also very attentive and got us anything we needed (like more yum yum sauce :)) overall the dining experience was pleasent and the food is pretty good. The hibachi is very very loud, shockingly so. It's not in a separate room just a partition. The food was visually appealing but I asked for nothing documented and no Wasabi. I ordered the salmon tartar. It was beautiful except it came with red tobiko, black tobiko, and GREEN tobiko which is Wasabi tobiko. I asked the waitress if it was made with Wasabi and she asked the sushi chef and he said no. I tasted it and it was Wasabi. She took it back for another one but instead of making a new dish, he scraped off the green tobiko and replaced it with yellow. I still tasted Wasabi but I didn't anything else about it. They obviously don't think much of their customers. The piece of the other roll I tasted before the Wasabi was delicious. Unfortunately, after the Wasabi I couldn't taste it anymore. So I'm normally a Hibachi (Dover) fan. We wanted to try this out because we've heard a lot about it. Very clean, very up to date. There was definitely a difference in the taste of food. I wasnt a fan of the salad dressing, very gritty. The teriyaki sauce was more of a soy sauce, the yum yum sauce has always been talked about, didn't care for it. SUPER FANTASTIC Wife's Birthday. Made reservation for 10. Even though it was last minute Lady over the phone was very nice and helpful and got us in.
