He said the fried rice was too salty for his taste. I had the boxed meal and didn't know there were shrimp in it so I didn't eat them because I am allergic to it. Every time i've been here the food and service has been excellent. i've never gone during dinner time (i've went earlier) and it's never really crowded. The food is always fresh. You have the option to have your hibachi meal cooked in front of you or you can sit separately and have it cooked in the kitchen. They also have a wide variety of lunch specials for a great price. Wow, I am absolutely in awe!! I went in for a normal dinner experience with a wait time clocking in at a little over 30 minutes, but this wasn't a surprise considering it was 7pm and the place just opened. They don't seem to take reservations, which can be annoying, but that tactic definitely hyped the place up a bit. From the moment you walk in you are struck by the beautiful decor, with trendy lighting that sets the mood and gives off a cool Tokyo upbeat vibe with the perfect amount of class. Prices were just right, and I even felt like they could get away with charging a little bit more considering how amazing the food was, it was all just so incredibly fresh. Kent the manager told us our Chilean Sea Bass and Jumbo shrimp got delivered in the morning - can't beat that! Happy this place opened up in Middletown, this area definitely needed something new that was more trendy and upbeat. Now when I visit from Philadelphia, I can get a top notch restaurant experience for half the price of what I expect in the city, and the quality is just as good, if not even better. What a fun place! My daughter and son-in-law brought me here for my birthday. It can be awkward sitting with strangers, especially when they don't seem to be having any fun, but our side of the table was the fun side. RJ and I started out with a volcano drink that was on fire. It was fruity and delicious. The server takes your order and you never see her again so make sure you tell her everything you need the first time. Our drink was huge which was a good thing, because apparently a second drink was not an option. Once the chef came out, the party started. He was fun, put on a good show, and made me a balloon rose for my birthday. I don't even know what food he tried to throw into our mouths, I just know mine ended up on the floor. And then he squirted the sake bottle into our mouths and wouldn't stop until I spit it out onto RJ. We had a great time! The food was delicious, I was the only one who had noodles and everyone was jealous, everyone else had the rice. Easily made reservations for a Sunday evening at 5. The decor is nice, the greeting staff are pleasant and the place appears clean. Surprisingly service was slow although there seemed to be a lot of staff on site. The chef had high energy but skill level was lacking. He dropped & cracked our eggs, also burned the fried rice a bit. We ordered a spicy tuna roll, shrimp tempura roll, 3 Hibachi combos & 1 kids combo. We ordered the shrimp, salmon, chicken, beef, noodles & fried rice. He served the steaks first weirdly & it could've cooked a little longer since we request medium well. The chef cooked the shrimp surprisingly longer than the steak. My BF thinks the food tasted of dish detergent since he clean the grill right before. We enjoyed the rolls however the hibachi entrees did not meet our expectations. First of all the food was delicious and the cook was fun. The problem is our waitress disappeared and barely cleared off used dishes as we were done with stuff and did not check on us at all. When we needed help we stopped another waitress and she stated with an attitude that she did wait on us and kept walking. When the bill came they put it all on one bill that included the other party that wasn't with us. So because we were left with a missing waitress, one of the ladies of the other party tried to get help to ask a young lady that worked there with long black hair that cleans off tables, but she stuck her hand up dismissive, mumbled something and never even looked her way. Now normally I would have flipped, but we had our 80 year old mother with us and it's Mother's Day! It's a shame because the food was really good but they'll never get one red cent from us EVER again! They are rude as hell. This is a below average Japanese Restaurant. They have a teppanyaki section that is so loud you can barely hear yourself talk. The food has deteriorated in quality and quantity while the prices have gone up. The servers can be nicer, but hey, everything else is mediocre. This restaurant was/is my favorite new spot to eat in Middletown. The first night my family and I ate there was great. It was a "trial" day i.e. open before their "grand opening." We ate there multiple times to follow. Also, I take my work crew there to eat after completing some construction projects and/or work for the week. They like the food as much as I do. We have eaten at regular tables and hibachi. Even sometimes, my crew and I have eaten/had drinks at the bar. However, the last two times there, once with my family and once with my crew. It didn't work out for the better. Service was still great. Just when busy, it seems that the dishes don't come out as we would expect. Last visit with my crew, it took a while to get seated. We had some beers and waited for a table. We usually order combinations like steak & shrimp, scallops & steak, sea bass & etc... and some sushi. Table service was slow, but the waitress was great. When crew and I got our food, half of the dish was cold (steak), and the other half was hot. No biggie, they are busy. Drinking beers anyway. Last visit with my family. It was busy at the restaurant. We were told that it would be 20 minutes for a table. We waited until 30 min passed and was told it would be 5 more minutes. It ended up 10 more minutes... More importantly the same cold dish problem occurred with my son and I. Wife and daughters plate was fine. So this time I let the waitress know. She lets the manager know and a he comes over. I tell him that half the dish is cold... etc... and this isn't the first time I've had this issue. As I am getting ready to say, I dont want to pay for the dish this time, the manager proceeds to talk over me and says that I should get the filet instead of just the steak... etc... This and that... etc. If it wasn't for making my wife uncomfortable in the restaurant, I would have asked for someone different to hear the complaint I had... Wife doesn't like to make a scene... Note to manager, please don't try to upsell me in a situation where your restaurant has screwed up. If I wanted to get the filet, I would have gotten the filet. Getting the filet has nothing to do with half of the plate being cold. Please don't continue to rant about this and that (small irrelevant talk) - almost as a deterrent to change the subject. It's annoying and is an insult to anyone's intelligence. Additionally, don't tell patrons waiting for a table it's going to be be 20 min for a table, then double their wait time. So as I stew in irritation, I think about how many times I have visited ( approx. 15 ) this restaurant and how much money I have spent there... I never had a bill that was less than $100+... and few of the bills with the crew, food and drinks were well over $200. Then to have a manager talk over me and not offer some form of compensation, pisses me off and makes me not want to go back. read more

The restaurant is divided into two parts: there is a bar/general seating area and a collection of hibachi grills opposite this area. The tables are small. The plates are a bit large. I'm still trying to understand why restaurants buy oversized dishes and tiny tables. So, a family of four will have very little room. This is by no means a place to go if you are looking for a relaxing, slow-paced dinner with a peaceful atmosphere. This is basically one step above a hibachi steak house. In the end this is literally the owners of the now very sub par Sushi Yama trying to get another corner on the oh so middletown residents attempt to have a halfway decent restaurant somewhere within driving distance of their tax free shopping and cluttered strip mall shopping designs. Don't waste your time. I'd tell you where to get really decent sushi where the pick up trucks don't spoil the ambiance but you would t want to go there and I'm keeping my gem a secret. read more

Have been here twice in the past week and the first experience was good even though the chef snapped his fingers at the other people that were at the table and told them to pay attention. Went there last night and was treated poorly by the same waiter we had earlier in the week. The hibachi chef was excellent this time but the waiter was terrible. He even spilled soda on my fiance and was very rude. We asked for water for the table and he never brought them. He repeatedly asked us for our order and made comments about how expensive something was as if we couldn't afford it. We tipped the chef but we didn't tip him and he followed us outside to question us. Spoke to the manager and she was apologetic but the waiter was out of line all night. The food here is delicious. I was going to take a photo of the rest of the food, not just the appetizer, but i was so occupied with eating that I forgot. Appetizer: we ordered their chicken gyoza. (Aka dumplings) Which was kind of a relief for me because everywhere I go seems to only have pork. Main entree: We each ordered vegetable fried rice with chicken(1) and beef(1). For 10$ that portion was extremely big. The price was definitely worth it. 2 sushi rolls - were good Drinks: Sangria was tasty. All in all, they were really good and they were pretty friendly. Best sushi in town, no competition! The restaurant is very clean, service is great, and the food is delicious. I'm not a big fan of miso soup, but I really loved theirs! We got the sushi love boat and the fish was very fresh and the rolls that accompanied the sushi were well put together and had generous amounts of filling. The server seemed put off when we told him this was our first time and had questions about the menu. He was no help at all. I ordered the steak and shrimp hibachi, the steak was way over cooked and the shrimp had absolutely no taste at all. The vegetables were soggy and again no taste. Our server never even asked about the amount of food that was left on my plate. My husband attempted to get the servers attention 3 times to get our check only to have him just walk into the back room. We finally had to ask a different server for our check. The food is good. The teppanyaki chefs put on a pretty good show. They have the same menu in both the teppanyaki area where people sit around the cooktop or in the regular restaurant seating area. The food comes a lot faster in the regular seating area but the quality seems to be equivalent. I normally get the steak and shrimp and my wife gets the Patagonian toothfish (a.k.a. Chilean sea bass). We must like it because we've ordered it at least 8 times. We take our extended family there for most celebrations and the whole family likes it. It would be nice if they could do something to knock the noise down a few db. It is very loud. I guess it is intended to up the level of excitement but it can sometimes become painfully loud. I wish their house sake was a bit better but that isn't going to keep me from going back many more times. read more

What's the point of making a reservation only to be given a buzzer and having to wait almost 25 minutes past your reservation time. If they're running behind a phone call or heads up would be nice.
