Had an oil change this morning. I was there for an oil change. I thought it was strange usually they have cameras showing on a screen what's going on underneath but it was off probably cuz One of the guys that was underneath my vehicle changing oil literally was shaking the car as if to say he's checking it..I didn't say anything although I should have..as I drove away and turn onto the free way I could hear something I pulled over to find these guys didnt put my car back the way they found it. I came to Oil Can Henry's to get an oil change they informed me that they had ran-out cooling fluid for the radiator and to come back at a later day to top off radiator reservoir, I did two weeks later they told me that they did not have any antifreeze radiator coolant again", I do not know what's going on with the Customer Service or the Quality?; I've noticed it has gone Down Significantly**, I will never come again to Oil Can Henry's and I do not recommend it; my time is valuable to me and coming twice to try to get a top off for Antifreeze should be something that they should not be running out of. I always went here to get the oil changed on my cars. They were always fast and friendly and very thorough. They would give me the morning paper to read which I never got to read much of because they were so fast at getting the job. They did other things like put in wiper blades and many other services. I would definitely highly reccomend them. read more

My review would be a negative star. Where do I start? With them not tightening my oil filter causing a leak or so I thought after going to Cardinelli GMC- who by the way...have earned my business from now on, or where we had to call the fire department because they left an oily rag in our engine which almost caught fire? Or shall I talk about WHY I even was there for the SECOND time when they left the oily rag on my exhaust manifold because they dropped a screw into my air conditioner making it non operative? HORRIBLE , just admit your mistakes and we can move on. Do not argue with customers that have proof that you screwed up, just give them their money back and we part ways. We have a 911 report that shows we had to call the fire department and they came to the Wal-Mart parking lot where we drove straight from Oil Can Henrys 'fixing' the screw issue ( which they argued that they did not drop ...yet...why was I missing a screw after I left? and why did you find it in my air conditioning unit then apologize? huh?) This is two vehicles just within one family, typically, the staff is polite and friendly and that is why we always went there...until now. The $8 yelp deal didn't matter much because they ripped me off anyway. I normally wouldn't review a place like this but felt intrigued to by their really poor service. I know, you guys make an extra few bucks pushing this service and that service. I get it. But really, I feel like it's a battle everytime I go. I came for an oil change. Thanks. No, I don't need you to "recommend" a transmission flush, or an oil additive or yadda yadda. Well, this time the guy says "Would you like a new air filter for $15?" Ok, that's very inexpensive, while I'm here why not, saves me going to Kragen. Then after ringing me up I ask "wait how much was the air filter?". He states $15. But he charged me $25. Well, I tell him that's not really cool, he states "Well, there's nothing I can do about it now." Really?! Is this their idea of customer service? So he says "well I'll go talk to my manager." 4.5 seconds later after his pretend conversation he comes back and says "yeah, nothing we can do." WOW. Well, there's something I can do. Get mad, and berate someone who judging from their attitudes probably hate their job anyway. Nah, but I will recommend any of my friends and other yelp people to take your business elsewhere. Worst service ever! Horrible customer relations from the manager who offered no solution after staff lied to me and told me to be quiet when I confronted them and also put the wrong oil in my car. That was the second time they put a different oil in my car than what I requested. Sucks because it is convenient to just sit in your car while they do the oil change but I can't trust them any more to do the right work. I've used this Oil Can Henry's several times, as it's conveniently located for me. Pros: Fast service (assuming you don't go during "peak" times); friendly & professional staff; I like that they actually show you the dipstick, filters, etc. to show you what needs to be done or has been done; no need to ever leave your car; they perform a check on all your lights/blinkers, tires, and other systems. Cons: It is slightly more expensive than other places (though you get what you pay for in terms of speed of service & convenience, and there are plenty of coupons available); there's a lot of "upsell" for additional services (but I've never felt hard pressure--just be polite yet firm in saying "no" and that's it). read more

This place is a total ripoff and might end up doing damage to your engine. I took my VW Passat for a regular oil change and after I selected the service I wanted, I was told they HAD to use a special synthetic oil or they wouldn't be able to do the oil change. Charge for this special service was $79.99, plus a $5.00 charge for a "premium" oil filter. Oh, and an extra quart of oil for $8.99. Total charge was almost $93!!!! My car started to run poorly, so I took it to the wonderful people at Folks Cafe to see what the problem might be. Turns out that Oil Can Henry's used a crappy after market oil filter that didn't fit my car correctly and oh, by car should never have synthetic oil. Folks Cafe did a new oil change for $64.00. Staff was friendly & helpful. The USA Today was a nice touch while waiting in the car, as they don't really have a waiting room. While getting my oil changed, one of the employees began pulling out different air filters, i had one changed for an additional $26-, wasn't ready for that. When i got home the car began to leak something of a greenish, oily substance in the garage. I took the car back & they didn't know what the substance was? That's interesting, the car never leaked before i brought it to Oil Can's. Anyways, next time i will take it to a reputable Mechanic to have the oil change done, as it's not worth the hassle. read more

I waited for 50 minutes until I couldn't wait any more. I saw three people go through in the other lane. The greeter guy was apologetic but I will not be able to get my time back. I had them too me off and even that I had to wait for. I miss the old Oil Can Henry's. I will not be back Ok, I had to try it one more time and was pleasantly surprised by the turn around in customer service. Everyone was amazing and very polite. I finally decided to come get my car serviced after I got annoyed by the little light on my car. Beep-beep. Anyway, I came on a Saturday afternoon and the line was long so that's not good. However, I do believe that they are probably popular so I waited it out. When you first drive up, there are these men with hats and bowties who hand you a newspaper. Whaaaaaa!! Oil change service was super quick. They seem very cordial in their demeanor and told me my options and provided me with recommendations. For my car, the total was a whopping $60 for an oil change. I should say "It's-OK" instead of A-OK. What I HATE and I mean HATE is that they are always trying to sell you more then an oil change. This is for better gas mileage, this is good for your transmission. You need special oil and so on and so on. This is my go to place to get my car oil change. It's not the cheapest in town but it is the most convenient you just drive up they do the rest. The workers are very friendly and curdious. On the bad side they always try to up sell you on other services or products and on the weekends the wait time is long but overall highly recommended. read more

I waited a long time in line behind a vehicle that needed extra service while the line next to me kept moving ahead. The staff came out multiple times to check my mileage and tire pressure, but never bothered to mention that perhaps I'd be better off in the other line. I was the only customer left by the time I got inside. Standing in front of the car, the guy interacting with me loudly announced "Customer Show Time!" which provoked some commentary or snickering from the person underneath the car. The guy came around to the driver's side and launched into Act 1, which looked to be a lengthy run-through of oil choices. Being in no mood for unnecessary formality and further delay, I said I wanted conventional oil. He paused and looked at me like I'd just spoken in tongues, and asked "You want conventional?" in a tone that suggested disappointment with my inferior selection. He finally said 'okay,' then went and pulled the dipstick and came back for Act 2. He pointed to the oil on the stick and said "See that dark oil? That means your engine needs to be cleaned." Recognizing the idiocy of this statement as another upsell attempt, I said no, no add-ons today, just the oil change. The person under the car laughed at his failed declaration of Show Time!, which he then denied having said. Finally I got the oil change, along with an invitation to "come back and we'll top off the fluids." Apparently you do not get fluids topped off with the oil change unless you buy into the upsell. This guy probably thought I was some stupid old lady he could snow, but little did he know that I've changed my own oil my whole adult life, starting from before his parents were born, and only stopping when crawling around on the garage floor getting dirty ceased to be fun. As cute/nice as the little bow ties and free newspapers are, they don't make up for this kind of treatment. Wish there were better alternatives; choosing between a car dealer and Oil Can Henry's for an oil change is an exercise in choosing the lesser of two evils, and the jury is definitely still out. read more

I added two more stars from my previous review because of the response back from a Tammy in customer care. I did call the 800 number and spoke to one of their representatives. I want to thank both of them. I did not ask for it, but she did give me a refund for that oil filter upgrade. Which I appreciate it, but my main concern is that they contact this Salinas location and retrain and inform them the importance of communicating to the customer about any additional charges and "upgrades, before they start the service. So as customers we can decide whether or not we want them to do the service. I have informed my colleagues, family, and friends to pay close attention to their bill if they decide to go here. If I hear and see improvement, I will update my review and add another star or two. If no improvement? Taking away stars. Let's all hope for the best! read more

I would give one star but I'm adding a star for the convenience of not having to leave your car while getting your oil changed, but today the service was so lacking, I feel I have to leave a review and/or call the manager. I arrived to a few cars ahead of me in line and the employee Marco let me know it would be a 45 minute wait. I immediately felt detoured from getting the oil change so I decided to come another time since I had my young nephew with me and I doubt he wanted to wait so long. Since my low pressure tire light had recently come on I asked if he would adjust my tire pressure and I would come back another time for the oil change. I was immediately met with attitude. You'd think my faithful Oil Can Henry's window decal would have spared me his attitude (I've been a customer for over 15 years). He says "So you don't want an oil change but you want me to check your tires?" Then he tells me there's air available at gas stations and tries to blow me off. I'm very pregnant and not in the mood to work on my tires and I thought it was rude for him to suggest it. And then he proceeds to tell me he doesn't know anything about tire pressure lights and that it would be at least 15 to 20 minutes which I find completely odd. I've never had an experience where checking my tire pressure took that long no matter how busy a place was. I ask him again if he wouldn't mind and he has me pull forward to a convenient spot. A few minutes later (I knew he was just trying to get me to leave with the exaggerated wait time) he fills a few of my tires with air and very rudely says to my boyfriend "What? Don't you know how to do this?" I was blown away by his behavior. I thanked him for filling my tires, drove a few miles and noticed the tire light was still on, so I came back. I pulled into the same convenient spot for him to check my tires and I asked Marco again if he wouldn't mind checking the tires. He at first tried to ignore me and then when I spoke to him he had an attitude and said that he was very busy and didn't know if he would be able to. I didn't know what that meant, if I should stay or go, so I decided since I've never been met with such resistance from an employee before to stay and see if things could possibly get worse! I then witnessed him asking a customer very politely if he could check their tire pressure for them. Ha! About 5 minutes later a different employee Jezerel let air out of my tires and wasn't friendly but I preferred his silence to the attitude from Marco. I drove back to Monterey and my tire light did not come off. Now I'm even more irritated. So I stop at Midas and a very friendly employee stops what he's doing and checks my tires at no charge. I drove 20 feet away and my tire light came off. Finally some service. The horrible make that ATROCIOUS customer service I got at Oil Can Henry's is enough to cause me not to return, which is a shame cause I do love the comfort and ease of sitting in my vehicle while getting my oil changed. I won't be back to Oil Can Henry's, but I would like to offer some advice. Instead of putting customers off with a long wait time, why not offer a $10 off coupon for the trouble of having to wait so long. I did come from Monterey to have my oil changed and it was an inconvenience not to accomplish what I came for. A thank you and a coupon would have gone a long way towards making me want to make the trip back. Update: The owner sent me a sincere apology via Yelp. I am adding one star to my review for the apology. It's amazing to me how many business owners fail to right the wrongs or offer an apology for poor service. Like the fact that you can wait in the car while the work is being done. The cameras are also a good thing to see what is being done on your car. Cars can back up and wait can be an hour or more, but trick is to go in first thing in the morning and should be about 1/2 hour for service, not on Friday or weekends as these times seem to be the busiest especially in the morning. Not a bad overall experience, and do like the free USA TODAY copy you receive upon arrival. Been coming here for years and less expensive than dealer service. read more

I tried Oil Can Henry's once and it cost more than what they quoted me. So next oil change I decided to do it myself and discovered the oil filter was on too tight. Horrible customer service! If you go here don't get anything other than a normal oil change. Anything more advanced than that, these guys are not skilled enough to complete the job without complications or breaking something, and even when they do mess up, they do not own up to it nor do they care. We have had 5 company cars that have major issues now after taking them to this shop. Went with a friend and he got the standard oilchange package. I found a coupon for some money off and showed them it from my phone and they just needed the code of it. It was very thorough and professional and with one car ahead not too long of a wait. I like the camera idea to see what they are doing. Good job! Would go again if I was in the area.
