Best breakfast sandwhich spot in Dublin! Best people and atmosphere if your are looking for a hole in the wall local dinner. Say hi to spike their dog for me

Oh! Rourkes... the exclamation mark is silent.

Don't take this way, but I'm relieved to see Oh! Rourkes. It's that neat and tidy diner at the end of Bridgefoot street that you'd never expect to see across from that fenced off dead lot, or down from the overgrown and abandoned allotments. The sandwich counters are clean as a whistle, and the slim menu is a surprise -hot breakkies all day including breakfast rolls, plates of pudding, egg and beans... even boxty! The prices are excellent as well, with a six-item plate costing just €7, those breakfast roll €4.50 and wholesome drinks like €2 perc coffee, €2.50 hot chocolate and very affordable €1 glasses of milk. The place was empty as an eggshell on my visit, but I get the feeling there's locals on their way.

They have started charging ridiculous prices and the quality of the food has gone way way down. We dropped into the Eddie Rocket's on Parnell st for an impromptu pig out. We ordered ad it took them about 35 minutes for them to finally bring the food. We could see my burger under the hot lamps for about 15 of those minutes The Jalapeno Popper at one point was the pinnacle of burgers in Ireland for me. Lots of peppers, cheese, sour cream on a lash of hot sauce. What I got this time was kind of a sloppy mess (see picture). Most of the jalapenos fell out the back of the burger. My girlfriend's veggie burger was really dry. She used to love these but she was left very disappointed. All in all Eddie's was once a fantastic burger spot. Now they over charge for burgers that are not as good as they once were.

Here it's Eddie Rockets and there's nowhere quite like Parnell Street's burger joint for pre-movie munchies. It's pricey here in ways no establishment calling itself a diner should ever be - which is why Hubby Himself often pays - with two burgers, fries, onion rings, milkshake and diet coke (the lynchpin in weight gain) coming to about 30 yo-yos. ...For that money you could get a gorgeous Indian dinner form Bombay Pantry, fill the tank for a VW Lupo or buy a pre-worn hipster top from Urban Outfitters. Here, it's greasy spoon goodness. The service is prompt, the wait-staff efficient but quiet, and when your deep-fried side order isn't to your liking, they'll replace or refund without fighting (it really does happen in Ireland). And with a second entrance that leads out to the Cineworld complex and theatre it makes dinner and a movie easier than ever.

The burger and fries menu seemed legit, but the hot dog options looked a bit suss. The Stack: You really can't go wrong with a bacon cheese burger. Throw one some fried onions and BBQ sauce, to make it even more indulgent. Really loved all the Irish beef in this American-style burger. Fries: Plentiful. Crispy with some nice pasty softness inside.

Luckily they have it down to a science and were turning tables so fast the line was moving along steadily. We were given probably 2-3 minutes before a sever came up to take our order. Then since it is a concert night they ask you to pay before the food comes out. (No worries to us.) The service was good and the atmosphere was definitely dinner vibe. My girls got a Bacon Big Boy (hot dog with bacon and cheese) and the other a kids quesadilla meal. My husband got the smokestack burger combo and I opted for the tender basket with bacon and cheese on my fries. We also opted for a few milkshakes to share. I got a vanilla, my daughter got an Oreo and my hubby got a Rocher shake. (I will say the rocher shake was my favorite.) We were not able to eat everything as it was all so filling. My daughter asked if we could come back again tomorrow.

When we walked in we were immediately greeted and seated in a booth. We ordered food a few minutes later. I got the chicken tender basket and a Ferrero Rocher shake, and my partner got the BLT basket and a Kinder Bueno shake. We also got the mac and cheese bites just to see how they were. The chicken tenders were hot but very small. The fries were alright but a little disappointing - something I experience in diners with some degree of frequency in the states, so I guess you could call this a point for accuracy? The BLT sliders were fine, nothing to write home about. The mac and cheese bites tasted like cafeteria mac that was battered and fried. Again, nothing special. The shakes were good but a bit watery - I like my shakes to be more creamy and thick. The food overall was lacking salt (and seasoning overall) and I saw other people putting salt and pepper all over their food too so I know it wasn't a me thing. The bathrooms weren't great. They were in the basement down a long hallway. They weren't very clean and the doors on the stalls were both broken and stuck on engaged, so you couldn't lock them and you couldn't tell if someone was in one without knocking. I felt uncomfortable the whole time I was in there and couldn't wait to get back out. The restaurant itself was an average level of cleanliness. The floors were dirty but it was a very rainy day so I could forgive that. The booths weren't in great condition - some had tears that originated from cracked vinyl. The staff seemed friendly enough but I did catch two of them talking about another table in another language. I didn't speak the language but they were blatantly looking at the table and pointing with their eyes. It made me feel a bit bad on behalf of that table - they were right behind us and hadn't done anything wrong. Overall this place is just alright. It's fine if you're starving and don't really care what you eat or if it's any good, but if you want a meal you will enjoy and remember then try a pub across the river instead.

Hah! It does say 'Eat and go!' on their caps, but that is what I like to do anyway - no prob! The Clonakilty burger has beef, bacon, a fried egg, and even hash-browns! It is huge, but manageable - I ate every bite and licked my fingers! Most burgers with fried eggs are really messy, from the runny yolks - but this egg was cooked hard enough so that it didn't make a mess. Big improvement! The Cheesy Chicken burger was also good. The Bacon & Cheese Fries were decent; thick bacon bits were excellent, but the gooey cheeze-whiz style cheese lowered their delight-factor. Real grated cheese would've been much better. Tasty ice cream desserts, and fair prices, in a clean chrome diner. Restrooms downstairs were very clean. We liked it!
