With the environment today, and the uncertainty of whether or not law enforcement would be there when I needed them, I decided to get something new. OGC has also partnered with High Roller Guns in Vegas and they have a website with a ton of different manufacturers to choose from. I couldn't find the brand I wanted locally so online I went. It couldn't be simpler. Look for what you are looking for, pay for it online and then have them send it to OGC. The day OGC got it in hand, I get a call from Brad. I go down, confirm the item and get the purchase receipt from him. Take the receipt to HPD, jump through their hoops, wait the 14 days, go back to HPD to get your permit to acquire and off you go back to OGC to pick it up. When I went back to OGC, Brad was there to assist me and was total professional and guided me through the necessary form for the transfer fee. Paid the fee, double checked the serial numbers, and I got my item in hand. Now back to HPD to register it. I just want to say that Brad was super friendly and professional and it's because of this, and the simplicity of going online to get what you want, that I will go back to OGC. They (High Roller Guns) also have ammo for sale and that gets shipped free without credit card fees. So if you check online weekly, you will find the caliber you want and so long as you can wait a week or two for it to come in, they have the best deals in town. 9mm nato 124 grain 80 cents per round! I can get hollow points for 80 cents a round. Typically, on island 115 grain goes for 32 cents a round and 124 grain goes for 34 cents a round. There is no FFL dealer you can trust more than OGC. They're very law enforcement supportive. They charge only $25+ tax per firearm you send their way from the a mainland dealer. That's law enforcement price. I had my 5 firearms shipped to them and also bought my Colt 6920 and Ruger PCC9 from them. You can't find more akamai guys than Brad and Eric they're the best. Even during these hard times and periodic ammo shortages, OGC continues to bring in ammo as well as other firearm accessories on a pretty consistent basis. I recommend calling ahead for in stock items and sales. In most cases, you can pay for items via credit card over the phone to reserve them. This is extremely helpful as items such as ammo tends to sell out fast. The staff there seem knowledgeable and extremely helpful the several times I have patronized thier business. Previous negative reviews are accurate. The guy there named Eric (older white guy) is an interesting character indeed. Wasn't going to write an review figuring it won't make a difference given the previous complaints and the fact that he's still employed. He mentioned he's a good friend of the owner which is obvious. Verbalized the following 2 specific complaints in a calm manner. This is when Eric decides to step up to my face and get all defensive and escalate the dispute in an unprofessional manner with his aggressive body language and tone regardless of other customers being present in the store. Complaints were: 1. They add a 2 or 3% (forgot exact %) "service charge" for paying with your credit card without notifying customers. No sign. No verbal heads up prior to running the card. When asked, Eric acknowledges that they do it this way (no verbal heads up or sign) and then says loudly in my face, "every fucken one of the other stores do this as well". This is false by the way. Called other stores and many don't do this. Every other store notifies their customers on additional charges, if any, except this one and they feel this is how it should be. Shady if you ask me to have to find out only if you look at the receipt. Perhaps some customers would rather purchase elsewhere or pay cash? 2. I felt they failed to communicate the options of purchasing a Glock with 15 round magazines. I was disappointed upon purchasing the Glock without magazines. There are 3 options. 1) Mail to mainland friend so they can mail back, 2) mail to local gunsmith to block, & 3) purchase $6 magblocks so they can install it there. Had this been communicated properly I would've obviously elected to purchased the magblocks ahead of time rather than make 2 separate trips to their store having to come back to pickup the magazines at a future date. Upon verbalizing this, Eric walks up to my face and starts getting aggressive in his tone and body language. Said he's not a sales guy and that he's a former military guy. Said he doesn't hold customers hands in a condescending manner. The conversation went back and forth while I calmly continued to counter argue his points while he kept getting defensive and louder. In the end, he apologized. At that point I said if he had done that from the beginning it would have prevented the entire conversation from escalating (on his part). When he left the room, the other store employee apologized to me as well. Rather then write a review, I was going to simply take my business elsewhere in the future. I have been in the market for a rifle, I got my license and like most I started shopping around. I found the weapon I wanted to purchase at OGC, but had a bad experience with one of the salespeople, so I decided to shop around some more. Upon doing my research on yelp as well as other sites, I found that OGC has one employee (maybe a manger,Im not sure) whom is notoriously condescending to patrons. I did not know this prior but I had exactly the same experience. I was talking to one sales person and then all of a sudden there was this other guy, who invited himself into the conversation and started speaking to me as if I was a child. I am a repeat customer. I hadn't had the chance to visit their old location, but of all the shops on the island, this is definitely the roomiest with the most variety of handguns. Prices are about what you'd expect on each gun. You may or may not get a better deal but the fact is they probably have a good amount of guns for you to handle. I've be helped by mainly Dan, Eugene, and Carter. They are very friendly and very helpful. I may be a beginner to the hobby but I am serious and appreciate the non-aggressive feedback from the employees. Very knowledgeable. Great prices on accessories and you can always order through them if they don't have it. I haven't gotten a gun from them, yet, but plan to soon. Only downside is the parking. The worst place to get handgun safety training and possibly even buying a gun.... I wanted to learn how to shoot guns and wanted to buy two different caliber guns for my new hobby. So I read the reviews on gunshops on Yelp and decided to take the handgun safety class from OGC Tactical, so that I would also buy from the same place and get some minor discount. I bought the class tickets online through their website and there was absolutely no information about what this class covers, where is their shooting range is etc. I went to the address on the website and it turns out that the training was going to be held at their friends' TOWING COMPANY OFFICE! not their office, which to me was weird. The place was full of dirty dishes and smelled terrible. Of course there was no shooting range either, and I had to drive all the way to Koko Head. Which was not a big deal until we all get to meet our instructor... The class was supposed to start at 8am and end at 3pm. NRA mandates 2 hours of shooting practice to every classes. First, the instructor made everyone wait about 40 minutes outside for no reason, so the class started at 8:40 and all that time he was chatting with his buddy and ignoring the rest of us waiting and standing.. We were close to 10 people, and after the class began he handed everyone powerpoint slides and told us to read them while watching an NRA Safety DVD for about 45 minutes. He put the DVD and just disappeared from the room for at another 20-25 minutes (people in the class were joking about the situation saying, he probably went out for another smoke break since he worked so hard.) When we looked at the printed powerpoint material, we realized that he skipped a lot of the important topics about handgun safety without mentioning anything about it. At 10:30 we were done with the class, including practicing with the dummy bullets. He mockingly said with an attitude: "We are done quick today, anyone wants to take an early lunch break?". Anyways, we met in Koko Head Range at 1PM as instructed by him... Everybody was there waiting in the range, but he made us wait AGAIN for another 25 minutes, ignoring us while he was shooting his guns and having fun with his buddies... This was outrageous!! He gave everyone a chance to shoot one .22 caliber, one 9mm, one .45, and one revolver with 4 bullets in them and we got to shoot them ONLY ONCE!! I guess the bullet prices really went upto the roof, since he was RATIONING 4 bullets per person. When people were rotating, he kept shooting the guns with his buddy as he pleases and chatting with him, while completely ignoring others. It was not like as if he was showing us anything about the handgun safety or correct shooting stance, it was completely for his own fun and to kill time to meet the NRA mandated 2 hours of shooting at the range. And guess what?? After all of this, we were done with the class at 2:25!!!! Around One hour, not two hours MANDATED by NRA! I personally learned almost NOTHING about handgun safety, I am still not comfortable with operating a handgun and I have a license to purchase one!... Only in Hawaii I guess. The Bottomline is: Do not go to this company for handgun training, if you care about your safety or others around you. I will complain to NRA about this company's operations, and will take the same training again elsewhere, because I CARE ABOUT MY SAFETY AND OTHERS! If any of you taken their classes, PLEASE complain about their training operations to NRA and even the Police, so people you care wouldn't get hurt!! read more

Let me start out by saying that i've been around guns for a good portion of my life. I've been to the range numerous times with friends and family as well as shot competitively in high school. I know how to safety handle a gun, I just don't own one. I probably don't fit into OGC's demographic being a civilian and mid 20's. I've been to OGC on a few occasions scoping out the gun selection. Each time before i've been helped out by Dan. He's a terrific salesman who is very patient, informative, and didn't pressure me into buying anything. Simply put, my experience with him has been top notch and is the reason why I had my mind set on buying a gun through OGC as well as taking their pistol class through them. On my most recent visit today I was talking to Dan about the pistol class since a few friends and I were planning on buying guns in the near future. He let me know the details of the class and I was set on checking out the gun I had my sights on buying after the conversation. Midway through the conversation, Carter (the owner who also frequently replies on Yelp), asked Dan to process a FFL transfer/pickup. Why Carter did this boggles my mind as Dan was clearly helping me and there were other sales associates available. Stepping back and analyzing the situation, when is it ever acceptable to interrupt a customer that you are helping? I stood around for a few minutes and saw Jean wasn't helping anyone. He made eye contact with me but continued to walk around NOT making any effort to ask if I needed help. I eventually asked him if I could check out a gun and he let me handle it. I made a simple comment about how the pistol grip was thinner than I had expected and he replied with a sarcastic, condescending response as if I should have known that to begin with. Previous reviews of OGC have a consistent point that certain sales associates come off as intimidating and condescending which was just what I had experienced here. I asked some more questions and got the same elitist attitude from Jean. Lastly, I asked if they could order a certain model of gun and he replied once again in a condescending, sarcastic tone, "We can order whatever you want". I felt as if I was a 5 year old being lectured. I made some calls after I left the store to friends who are regulars. They told me that Jean is a nice guy once he gets to know you... How about just being a nice person and offering decent customer service like Dan? I walked out of OGC with one of the worst possible retail experiences of my life. The store had less than 6 customers in at the time which shows that poor customer service doesn't just happen when it's busy. Don't get me wrong, OGC has competitive pricing and more tactical-oriented gear than other stores but their customer service is really hit or miss depending on who you have. The worst part about it all is that I had great experiences previously with Dan that was completely overridden by today's experience with Carter and Jean. I had my eyes set on taking the pistol course through OGC as well as buying a pistol and rifle this year; several thousands of dollars worth of business. Unfortunate for them, they just lost a potential customer and earned a 1 star review on Yelp. P.S. If you are going to buy through them, deal with Dan. The last time I've been to OGC, was in 2009 when they were located on Kaheka St. I purchased a Knights SR15, and they were still somewhat, starting off as a business. The customer service was awesome...of course Carter was the only one running the business at the time. Carter was very knowledgeable and very encouraging. I visited OGC on Kahai St in July, 2014, and was impressed by the inventory, and how much OGC has grown. But, one thing at OGC had bothered me, and will forever stand out. The customer service in the back room(gun room), was appalling. I walked through the front door and was greeted by a guy that was friendly. As I walked into the back room, I casually browsed through all the accessories and guns on the wall and the cases. Not once did the staff greet me, or ask if I needed help. I had the intention of looking for a specific item, so I finally asked two salespersons if they carried it. I was drawn aback and felt completely belittled by the response one of the salespersons had towards my question. He responded as if I was a child, or an idiot. I left it at that, and thanked him for his time, then walked out. It is very sad to see some businesses grow larger than they really should, where customer service deteriorates. I believe, the staffing a business owner employs is indicative to it's owner(prove me wrong ie: Magnum Firearms). I will never step foot in that store, ever again. I would much rather take my business elsewhere, where I will feel welcomed to spend my hard earned money. I'm not sure if it was because I showed up about half an hour before closing but the vibe I got was more like "buy something or beat it". I was just browsing because I'm interested in buying a firearm and many friends recommended this place due to their low prices. Long story short: Pretty bad customer service. The employees would rather talk to each other about their gun stories in their little club than help out a paying customer. Went here to buy some ammo. One employee was talking story with another customer, and the two other employees were joking around with each other. I stood there making eye contact with all of them. Nothing. 3 minutes later, The other customer leaves and I am helped. I look at a couple guns. Get ammo. I'm ready to fork over 60 bucks. There are about 4 parking stalls in front of the shop. I haven't had any problems with parking yet. If no parking, there are street parking maybe about a block away or so in the general neighborhood. I was super thrown off on my first time here, I almost thought I was at the wrong place. Maybe there's a secret passageway? Okay, no, there isn't. When you enter the first outside door, there is a another tactical shop you see and need to walk through another doorway to get to the actual OGC store. I walked in and started looking around, a little overwhelmed. Jon asked if I need help looking for anything. I was just shopping around to see what was available to decide what I wanted for my first. I only intended to just look, but he was very helpful and showing me the different types in the store. He was patient and encouraged me to really get a feel for the items so I could make a better decision. I was able to narrow down what I wanted that very day. By the next visit, I was pretty sure I knew what I wanted. And I only wanted to buy it here because of the great customer service I received from my first visit. I am loyal like that. Over the last multiple visits here, Eugene and Eric were awesome in helping me through the process. Bryce has helped me a couple of times too. Every time I visit, the staff ask right away if I need help looking for anything. They have great selection here. The service is outstanding. The staff are very personable. I love coming here. My husband and I used to come here for our ammo needs, and I personally think its a fine store. However, after an incident my husband just does not want to come here anymore. A few months back, we came here and parking as always was tight. We had a parking mishap with a blue truck. The guy parked in front and he came up to us and told us to park half way in to some guys drive way. I was first surprised that a worker was parking in front since everywhere I have worked at has made employees park either on the street or designated parking spots. I figured since parking is so tight they would leave them reserved for customers only. I was uncomfortable parking so into someone's drive way but the guy assured us it was ok. I told my husband we should hurry in and out. The guy who parked actually helped us since we walked in together. We asked about match grade .308 and were informed they were out. He told us that 7.62 was the better choice and they had it in stock. We told him we tried it before but our barrel is machined for .308 and have actually had a 7.62 round lodge in the barrel. He then told us to send it back to the manufacturer and ask to get the barrel machined for 7.62! While I thought it was a silly suggestion, my husband asked if they would be getting the .308. The worker then goes on and on about how 7.62 is better, his experience, how the military trains with it, and we politely stand there and listen. After awhile as he is going into the history of the round, my husband says "ok, two boxes please." This surprises me because we decided to stick with .308 and I could tell he was miffed at the whole experience. When we get back to the car he goes off that if they are out they can just say, "Sorry, we don't have that in stock." He really didn't like the whole experience and how he felt like he was getting talked down to. I did not get that vibe, but I did think the guy was really long winded and we really knew what we wanted and didn't need the whole song and dance. My husband has been avoiding the place but I'd give it about four stars and will probably be back. I rated it a three in the end because my husband was so pissed at the situation, I realize that people can get offended in such a situation. Though they can maybe learn there is a fine line between educating the customer and giving the customer what they requested. Small shop located on the 3rd floor of an office building off King St & Kaheka St. may take some time to find but worth it. I'll keep this as bullsh!t-free and unbiased as possible. Good: The prices here range from crazy cheap to average. Case-in-point: I bought a NIB Glock 22 (gen.3) for $400, on sale. A 100-round box of Winchester 9mm, on the other hand, was selling for the same price at Sports Authority. Overall, everything here is much cheaper than other shops. Top of the line LWRC M6 rifles were selling for about $500 LESS than the "sale" price of another gun shop several blocks away. I have found many accessories to be at or below the online prices (cheapest NIB Glock magazines I have seen), and the cost for most firearms will be cheaper than online AFTER you factor the shipping + FFL fee. Many of the items I have ordered or inquired about have arrived in under a week (I am STILL waiting on a price quote from Sports Authority for a gun I asked about FOUR WEEKS AGO). Bad: Parking, small shop, located on the third floor of a building with slick stairs and a slow elevator. Only two or three staff members, so purchases can take a few minutes longer to ring up. The store isn't open 24/7, something I'd like to see in the future (^_^) Other: Contrary to Juan's experience, I found the staff to be very helpful. I purchased a muzzle break from them, and they installed it-- along with a gas block purchased from another store-- on my AR free of charge, without any hassle. This was on a slow day, so YMMV. The staff doesn't hype things up or try to push a sell on you-- can't say the same for some of the other places. The owner of the shop is also an armorer, so most things can be handled in-house, instead of shipping your firearm out of state. Many LEO/military customers. No problems buying ammo or items that other stores deem "LEO-only" (aside from the Class III goodies). Finally... I trust this shop a bit more than most others, but I never buy anything blindly. Decide what you want, research it online, and ask the staff here for their input. If you want to compare two or three different guns, ask them to show you. I have never seen them give anyone a hassle over that. Sports Authority will ask to see your ID before they let you handle a firearm. Went in just to check them out today for the first time and first thing I noticed was the availability of parking. I was lucky that somebody was pulling out when I was turning in. Selection was great and the price of ammo was reasonable. The only thing was the atmosphere inside felt off for some reason. It's like the employees look all moody or seem to not want to work there. I've been to a bunch of the other gun shops here on island and is always greeted with a smile and I can tell they like working where they at. Other then that it might of just been an off day for them since the gun show is tomorrow. Maybe my second visit there will be a lot better. read more

I recently attended the NRA Handgun Safety Course instructed by Eugene, Carter and the staff at OGC. For the those that aren't aware, this course is a requirement for those living in Hawaii (smh). I have extensive experience with firearms and was still impressed by their professionalism and knowledge and patience regarding questions from the class. The value ($$) was also phenomenal, as I did some research and found another gun store conducting the same class for twice the amount!! As for the shop itself....it is leaps and bounds better than their previous location. It's much more open and airy, very well lit, and they present their products in a superb manner. The one negative point is parking, but won't knock them for it, as this is Hawaii and parking is difficult everywhere you go, but if you visit, be prepared to walk 50-100 yards if you don't score one of the coveted spots directly in front. The staff is very courteous and helpful (I've dealt with Gus, who is super cool) and the prices seem to be the best on island. Looking forward to buying my .357 from OGC!! read more
