I got a gift card a while ago as a gift and always wanted to buy a gun as I enjoy shooting and 2A. My gift card expired during a busy time in my life and then I went to Japan for a month, and the fella who answered said to talk to the manager about it because of my circumstances. I went to the store in person a couple times early and at lunch, but they have a 'max persons allowed' kind of thing going on and I couldn't wait long during my work breaks, so I was unable to go down and do anything, but I appreciate the sentiment offered to me. I've been coming here for a long time for things I needed as a security officer to a Federal LEO buying little things from batteries, flashlights, whistles to knives and firearms. They pretty much have everything that I've needed. They have a pretty huge selection of firearms that you can handle. They sell accessories or attachments for your duty belts, uniform, safes, and a whole lot more. It's a small little place so it can get crowded making it a but hard to get any help. They give Law Enforcement Officer (LEO) discount so don't forget to bring your credentials. I personally feel that their prices are pretty reasonable to cheap. The staff are very friendly and helpful. There's a small loading zone right in front of the building that you can park at if you're going in and out fast, but if not then there's a small tight parking lot at the back of the building. read more

This is a very well run and stocked shop. Its like the candy store for cops :) The staff were extremely patient and kind to me, a wet behind the ears newbie, and pointed out all the things I could do other than purchasing a firearm. They went over everything and pointed out the pros and cons as well as the legalities in writing. I wasn't in the market for a gun but I needed to replenish my pepper spray as I have a nefarious neighbor who needed a treatment while he tried to bash in my gates. That was a first time for me to use the spray but I am certain it is now an immediate necessity, at least on Oahu. Parking is a little tight but available in back. They are very friendly to families, as I brought my wife and daughter here recently. (First time gun owner) took my handgun class and waiting for the two weeks backround check. First store I walked in, I bought a Glock 35 which wasn't this place, I wish I gave them my business here instead of _______. I walked in this place to shop around for an AR to see what other stores had to offer. As I walked in, I was greeted by "Rus" and felt welcome, along with another employee while busy helping someone else, but had the time to acknowledge my presents. I didn't feel judged asking questions compared to _______. They answered my questions along with a little humor and didn't try to up-sale me on products (made me feel more relax due to being a newbie) compared to _______, only after I bought my pistol then I felt the customer service. I also visited Honolulu firearms and range, friendly staff as well. Week later I picked up my permit, walked in security equipment "Rus" was working and I guess he remembered me? Haha cause once I walked in he took out the forms before I got to the desk (I thought that was funny). Excellent staff. Easy location. Effortlessly organized. I visited with Chris Z. to pick up some ammo before going shooting the next day. He was easily able to pick up what he needed while I conversed with the staff. They seemed out of stock of some particular things but was still able to provide what we needed. In addition to ammo they have firearms, knives, safes, apparel, other random accessories. Parking might be difficult but there were open street parking and a private lot in the back. I brought my friend here to check out some pistols (he's a first time buyer). We walked in and was greeted and asked if we needed help. My friend asked to see several hand guns because he didn't know what he wanted. Casey, the salesperson helped us with some fondling of pistols. He was very patient and very informative, which made my friend comfortable. We were there a good half hour to 45 minutes! No sales pressure or BS here! Choices were narrowed down to M&P 9mm or Glock 19. Also if you need cleaning supplies, targets, range bags, holsters, ammo they have it all. One of the smaller shops but they are well stocked! I bought a lot of my equipment here because.......... Well, this is where they got all the HPD stuff. Like the cool badge holding wallets, badge clips, templates, mini HRS, etc. If I needed something ASAP, I would come here. If not, I just go online. If you have to pay for shipping for something online, you might as well buy it here. Oh, and they give a law enforcement discount ;) Parking...... Today was my first time walking into a gun store to purchase a gun for myself. I didnt really know alot but knew I wanted an AR-15 which they are out of stock as are 50-60% of stores island/nationwide or so I've heard when calling around. Richard welcomed me in & delivered the bad news that they were out of SIG AR-15 , COLT AR-15. They had .308 but I wanted .556. He showed me all the different guns, the accessories, the stocks that you can add and explained pros and cons of having a stripped upper & lower etc. Richard made this whole experience so very enjoyable. He put my name down on their waiting list and will contact me once something arrives in stock. Security Equipment Corp, has to be the best gun shop in town. On Oahu I'd say we have 2-3 larger sized gun shops with a good selection and decent prices. SEC has them all beat. SEC located on Young St. near Keeaumoku , always has friendly staff, decent prices, and a wide variety of inventory. Pretty much anything you want they have. I normally come in for the bulk specials on ammo, and other supplies for the range. A friend and I frequently try to stop in during lunch and see what's new in stock. He had been looking for a certain shotgun for a while, and was having a hard time getting a hold of one. The staff at SEC, in particular the younger guy, (I can't remember his name) is always very helpful, he told my friend that he would take his info down and when/if the gun came in he would give him a call. About a week later the gun did become available, they gave my friend a call and i went down with him to pick up the gun. The transaction was smooth, and they had a case to fit it in stock which was nice. Overall SEC always provides a great customer experience. Even though they might not be the cheapest shop in town, they do provide the best customer service experience. That is something I'm willing to pay for. I'm looking to make a handgun purchase this month and SEC will be the first place I stop at. read more

They took my 13 round magazine and didn't say .I found out one magazine was missing and called them back and they cannot tell me when I can pick-up after they block it.they just say we'll call you and need a gunsmith to block it . Me walking in SEC = man walking into handbag store. I am literally a deer in headlights because of the impressive amount of guns and related goods inside. Walking in and sticking out like a sore thumb is what we do when we are in love, right? Yes, I don't know what I'm doing. But - I do know that my bf loves his guns, and all I know are the type/size/whatever of ammunition he uses thanks to my bff's husband, a sergeant with his massive gun collection (I am so on his team when Walking Dead happens in real life) who goes to the shooting range together with him sometimes. So I am writing this review because, for those several awkward times I've gone to SEC to buy various birthday/Valentine's day/Christmas ammo over the past few years, the staff have always been so kind and helpful in getting me the things I need every time. +1 for always offering and helping me carry that heavy stuff to my car, too! Thank you! :) Also really like that the location is conveniently on Young Street. Parking is down the narrow street beside the store, but I think the last time I went I saw a sign saying there is additional parking. This place is great. Super informative and friendly staff, big selection of guns, ammo, cleaning supplies, knives, and EDC (everyday carry) gear. It's great to talk to these guys - they really know their stuff and don't mind sharing the knowledge without making me feel like a child. I was able to ask questions without feeling pressure to buy. It also helps considering how friendly they are. They have a great selection of knives that fit any budget. Benchmade, Spyderco, and Kershaw to name a few. Located at 1322 Young Street, this reputable gun shop has been in business since 1984. Although the online photos may depict a storefront clearly marked by identifying company logo, at present day, there is no signage on the building. In fact, if you are unfamiliar with the precise location of this shop, it is all too easy to drive right by this understated two-story, stand-alone building. While parking can be limited, there are several stalls in back of the property which can be accessed down a narrow driveway to the right of the structure, or if you're lucky, there is free street parking as well. Upon walking in, you'll be greeted by merchandise strategically placed throughout the compact interior square footage of this store. At the rear of the shop, you'll find a row of glass display cases containing new and consignment handguns, in addition to a selection of long guns lining the back wall behind the sales counter. As for service, let's just say at this time, I'm neutral about today's encounter since the staff were at least attentive and helpful. I wish all retail experiences were pleasantly average. However, when it comes to individuals, we're all made up differently, therefore we behave according to where we're at internally. The words we choose to convey are as important as our delivery. Although the sales associate meant well, his exact words were, "So you do know there is no concealed carry in Hawaii?" which borders on anything other than courteous. A better way of clarification on his part may have been, "Yeah, it's too bad there's no concealed carry in Hawaii" which would've gotten the same point across to anyone whom he's assuming is not aware of this knowledge. In the end, the bottom line in this case is price. My continued patronage to this establishment is yet to be determined. read more

After years of shopping around the island, I've come to the verdict that SEC is the BEST gun shop in town. And here's why: 1. Pricing, is probably the best deals you'll find for firearms locally. I've almost bought guns from other places, but after doing some rate shopping at SEC, I was glad to find that their prices were better by a good margin. They offer great law enforcement discounts as well. 2. NO CC FEES, that is a big deal to people like me who like to use their cards to purchase. It makes a difference and is a big reason why I decided I will come here to shop for my firearm needs from now on. 3. Great customer service! These guys are friendly and don't try to belittle you like alot of firearms salesmen do. They are knowledgable and know their stuff as well.
