I must say, I'm very impressed! Prices were great and the service was friendly. Parking was kinda odd...I didn't know where I could park so I ended up parking at Zippy's and walking there. But apparently you can park in the back of the shop or in the karaoke lot? Regardless of the parking situation, I'll keep them in mind when comparing prices at OGC. read more

Best gun store on the island of Oahu. Pros: Very friendly, helpful, and informative staff. Even though the store is small, they're willing to order things for you. Everything is always in stock or on the way. Cons: Antz you fricka...it took 6 months for my pistol order to come in. Hehehee. read more

This is the place I am forced to go to for work related purposes. I mainly came here early on in my career for those nasty metal tag book holders, a duffel bag or lame handcuff key. After a while, all that stuff you realize you never needed in the first place. This is one of the few stores in Hawaii that offer a wide selection of firearms and long guns. I came here for my bullet proof vest fitting and pick up. I'll minus one star because of the lack of staffing. Usually all the people are huddled around the gun cases talking to the cashiers and service people making the line long. But once you do get someone to help you, service is friendly. As I was waiting to pick up my vest I noticed a nice Sig Sauer that was reasonably priced that I'd like to purchase one day. I do have a $120.00 gift card so maybe soon! The parking lot is small in the back. Maybe 5 stalls, but usually you can find a spot if you come during the afternoon hours. read more

Best ammo prices for bulk ammo. Thats quality ammo anyways. Just bought my Glock 17 so now I can rock out with my glock out. Best price for that too! Always good customer service so my loyalty follows. They're not raising their prices in the donkeys push for guncontrol like others have. Holding true to customer service. Definitely as good as it gets. Aloha read more

SEC is a solid establishment. They have a nice selection of quality products including firearms, ammo, holsters, cases, bags, belts, cleaning and range supplies, magazines, a small selection of pocket knives and flashlights, and plenty more. It seems to be a great resource for LEO's (law enforcement officers) as I see a police officer there almost every time I go. Good enough for them, good enough for me. When you walk in and you don't get a smile and friendly chit chat, don't get bent out of shape. Remember that you're in a gun shop. Some regulars might get the buddy treatment, however, I think they try to keep the mood serious for professionalism. I can understand that. The staff is still cordial, helpful and knowledgeable. Prices are competitive. Parking is in the back (down a narrow driveway along side the building) or in the neighboring lot. I have heard discussion/criticism about SEC being more LEO -friendly than civilian-friendly. My perspective, sure I'd rather them favor civilians since I am not a LEO. However, I appreciate them supporting our LEO's, as well. I also heard they declined to support the Hawaii Defense Foundation with their CCW mission. If it's true, I am willing to give them the benefit of the doubt that they had good reason. If I have a chance to speak with one of the owners I'll be sure to ask if it's true. If it is, rather than making a snap judgement on that, I'd ask why did they decide not to support HDF. I'll report back if or when I find out about this, from the source. This is one of the good ones, check them out. read more

The staff here are very helpful and down to earth, which is rarer than you would hope as I noticed on my visits to various Honolulu gun shops. Very highly recommended. Honest deals and reasonable prices. They've gone out of their way to help me. This place is frequented by police for their needs and some of them have large attitudes, which is unfortunate. read more

My wife and I stopped in the store after work today and were greeted immediately. We went to the counter where Casey began helping us. I explained to him we were in the market for our first handguns, and although in the military I've shot a 9mm a few times, we are basically new to the world. First he explained the process for obtaining permits and registering firearms. Then, he took out at least fifteen different weapons, allowed us to handle them, showed us the features of each one, etc. He was very patient and didn't treat us like the noobs we are. He never tried to sell us on one gun over another. The entire staff with which we dealt was friendly. The shop had a large selection right at the counter. Great military and law enforcement pricing on Glocks. We'll most definitely be back when we're ready to purchase. read more

My go to for feeding my little monsters. After a few bad run ins with other shops, I decided to check out SEC with the hope that they could dispel previous rumors about prices and services that I had heard from said other shops. Let me just say I was not disappointed. Yes, prices aren't what we would like them to be, but the store offers a wide selection and usually has stuff on hand that other shops don't. You may pay a few more cents per round, but that is an equal trad of for convenience of having the round when others don't. I didn't purchase a firearm from SEC, but went in with an associate who did. Staff was very courteous with assisting him as a first time buyer, and again, had exactly what he wanted when other shops didn't. SEC is definitely one of my favorite shops, and I will continue to primarily deal with them even when other shops may have a better deal due to their great customer service alone. But don't get me wrong; they do offer great discounts during various times of the year, which is just an even bigger plus for me. read more

The knowledge of the people here will....ok, yeah, it will BLOW you away! Great people! Had the exact 12G we wanted, then the state papers, etc (come into the 21st century, Hawaii). Other than the paperwork for the state a very smooth transaction. Very competitive pricing too....spot on. read more

I was in the process of purchasing my first gun and only have a vague idea of what I'm doing. Service here was so friendly, calm, and helpful. It's a very small place that works on appointment only, which is really smart right now to reduce close contact. I had a very comfortable experience and managed to purchase almost the exact gun model I was hoping for (even though the gun shop I went to previously told me that I would never find what I wanted). read more

Pros + Very helpful/friendly staff + Reasonable prices + Location + The staff was patient and didn't rush us; they were very eager to help + Ammo surprisingly cheap! Neutral * My girlfriend bought a handgun here but since she got the last one it came from display. I'm not sure whether she got lucky or not. * One of the guys seemed really insistent on selling me a Glock 17 when I told him I wanted a 19. I had to ask three times for the Glock 19. Cons - Limited selection but mostly due to size of store in my opinion - Some prices are high but I'm used to mainland prices so take this with a grain of salt Conclusion I will definitely be coming here again but might have to call them ahead of time to order something I'd want not sold in the store. read more

Great locally owned shop to pick up your firearms, tactical gear, and law enforcement related equipment. Always great customer service and a friendly attitude. I always come here when I need to pick up some equipment or a firearm. Support local! read more

Today, 3 of my brothers & I went to a few gun shops to go window shopping for any guns that we may purchase sometime next week, with Security Equipment Corp. being the last of 3 places. I had previously read some bad reviews about them and wanted to find out for my self. So, we walked in and was not greeted in any way, which is not a big deal, I don't need greetings, but it would've gave me the sense of atmosphere this place has. After a while of looking @ the guns in the glass case @ the counter, a worker asked me if I needed help with anything. So, I asked him if they had a 22lr version of the gun that I was interested in. He says, "no" and just turns and walks away. I thought, "WHAT THE HECK". You guy's are definitely NOT getting my business. One of my brothers asks an employee about Glock accessory's, and so, the employee asks are you in law enforcement? My brother say's, "no". The employee say's, "oh" . -The employee's attitude changes from pleasant to irritated. If you aren't Law Enforcement, they won't give you the time of day, meaning you are Not Important. I can tell you this much, they just lost a total of 5 potential long-term customers. The 5th being another one of my brothers that didn't come with us. Their prices ARE ridiculous. But, If they weren't so stuck on LE's middle leg, I would probably be able to overlook it. I'd say that they are the second most expensive in Honolulu. If you doubt me or anything in this review then, please go ahead and see for your self. I DID. read more

This place has a decent selection. Not great, but not bad, either. Personally, I thought it was a bit pricey, but not in the 'gauging' territory. Parking is either street, which is HORRIBLE, or on the side of their unmarked building, there's a small alleyway with a couple of stalls in the back. It's best to go not during any business type of hours for your sanity of finding it and parking. read more

The staff here are great! Very knowledgeable, friendly, and they'll help you if you don't know exactly what you want to purchase. Prices are reasonable and less expensive than some other stores around Oahu. They also have some Maxpedition products you can browse. I am definitely a repeat customer. read more

The customer service at Security Equipment is always top notch. When you walk in, they will always acknowledge you and ask if you need assistance, and they are not pushy. I have also found that their prices on firearms are sometimes on par with mainland prices. Some dealers in Hawaii can't even match it. I would highly recommend Security Equipment to anyone. read more

Anyone who knows knives, knows that the Spyderco Paramilitary 2 for some reason is VERY hard to find right now. Go online and all you see are "out of stock" and "preorder only" signs on every site. Call around and all you hear is, "Pfft, good luck..." Well, Security Equipment had it. On top of that, as rare and "in demand" as it is, there was a discount on that design. But what I'm really writing about is the service. I didn't get his name but on the receipt it says "Cashier: Ants" (big guy, Asian, wears glasses). SUPER easy going and soft spoken but personable. Simply, a nice guy. I called ahead and he gladly put one on the side for me and before cashing out, asked if I needed to get a sharpener too. Of course, that's a good way to upgrade a sale but it also tells the customer that you're looking out for him/her and thinking about their needs. I told him not today but I'll probably be back and I probably will. So if you're looking for a well-stocked store with competitive prices and a possible "pot-o-gold" item, save some time and check these guys out first. The friendly, low pressure, informative service is the bonus. read more

I have been there half a dozen times and I'll recall my first experience walking in. To that point, I had been to the other major players - OGC, YG, KGS, and this was one of the last "main" shops that I hadn't been to. I walked in and while the place is "small", it's definitely packed with GREAT products. I wasn't greeted as I entered, which is fine by me. Being new to a store, I rather not have attention brought to me until I bring it to them. Their prices on their gun selection is great. Being a CZ dealer, they had a nice price on a CZSP01 Tactical (about $50 cheaper than anywhere else on the island). The staff did ask if I needed any help after they had addressed immediate customers. I asked some questions on a future AR purchase and Ants (sp?) was VERY informative and did not pressure me in the slightest to purchase anything. That is the kind of service I always hope for. Future visits included more detailed, no-pressure help. I will continue to bring my business here. read more

I went in today to check this place out was helped by Casey, he was very informative and helpful. Even told me things about other places on island to check out which I would figure wouldn't be in his best interest but found him to be very "Honest". He showed me several guns no pressure, and not judgmental as to make or model. Solid place lots of equipment and accessories to choose from also. I had a great time although was in and out due to nearby appointment but definitely be back in the future. read more

Overall: I highly recommend SEC. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable, and very quick to help. They generally have a lot in stock and pretty good prices. The Staff: I usually go straight to Henry or Anthony. They are really cool, easy to deal with, and also knowledgeable. The rest of the staff (sorry I don't know their names) are also similar. I have yet to purchase a firearm from here (for some reason the timing just has never been right); however I have bought most of my accessories (holsters, belts, etc.) and ammo from here. This is currently my favorite firearm shop. The staff is really easy going as well and one could just linger, look around and "talk story". read more

Favorite place to purchase pepper spray! With the changing climate in crime in Hawaii and rise in theft, robberies, disappearances etc, it is apparent that we need to be more vigilant of our surroundings. Carrying pepper spray especially if you're a woman is a smart thing to protect yourself. The staff at Security Equipment are extremely knowledgeable and take the time to explain how to use the canisters. It was such a great experience I've bought a few to give away as presents. Sadly it's not the same Hawaii we grew up in but I still say we live in one of the greatest places in the world! read more

I would absolutely recommend this place to anyone. I went in today and was helped by Casey, he was very informative and helpful. I am new to the gun scene, so there was no pressure and no judging on His part. They had a great selection and Very friendly staff.!!! Great PLACE read more

First time in the store and I had a nice experience. I was having such a difficult time finding 9mm ammo because of the current ammo shortage, and I was halfway through my reserve stash and wanted to get more to be safe. I was sure SEC wouldn't have any since none of the other shops I frequent had any or had a limit. To my surprise, I gave them a call and they did !! So I rushed down there and picked up a case. It was pretty pricey, but all things considered I thought it was fair. I guess it's just the premium you have to pay during these times. plus no other shops had any in stock at the moment or had a limit so I said what the heck why not. Customer service was good, the woman at the front door was friendly and helped me find what I was looking for quickly. I didn't hang around for too long but the store seemed to be very well stocked. I got lucky with parking in the back down the narrow alleyway so no complaints there. I will surely frequent this store more often for my firearms needs. read more

My favorite gun shop on the island! Great customer service, large selection of rifles, handguns and shotguns.

Excellent service. Tie for 1st place for me to shop for firearms (YG being the other place). Service and no "wise a$$ " attitude for beginers goes a long way in my book. Fantactic Glock selection and they didn't jack the prices up the day after Obama won his 2nd term. Honest store. Very competitive prices. read more

If you are law enforcement or military check these guys out first! They have specially prices firearms for LE/MIL. I made the mistake of buying my first handgun from another dealer and paid $200 more than the LE/MIL price at Security Equipment. Plus the Glock 22 they had there had night sights, so the cost was actually $300 savings once I took off the plain factory sights and installed HI-VIS night sights on my Glock 22. Just be advised for you new handgun or rifle buyers.....I paid a big price to learn the hard way. read more

I recently visited security Equipment with the intent of purchasing a glock 22 but, I wanted to see if they carried some upgrades and parts. I started to ask questions about specific upgrades (which they have little to none) the guy interrupts and ask's,"Are you H.P.D.?" I was a little thrown off by the interruption and when i told him," No im not with H.P.D. " He disengages from our conversation and kinda left me standing there while he made himself appear suddenly busy with another task.I felt like these guys Discriminated against me because i am not a police officer and thats just messed up! I'd never do buisness with an establishment that DISCRIMINATES against any customer for any reason. I highly do "NOT" recommend doing buisness here unless you are Law Enforcement because they are all up on that sack! read more

Walking into Security Equipment is always a pleasant experience. From the time when Cyrus was alive and running the store until today, customer service is always excellent. This is the only gun shop in Hawaii that I've seen/been to where they love bringing out weapons for you to handle. You can just ask a question about something in the display case or on the racks and they'll pull it out for you to look at without even asking to see it. Today, Kanoa helped me and was awesome with his service and knowledge. I ended up making a purchase too. Security Equipment has always been the first place I go to when looking to purchase a firearm. Knowledgeable and friendly service! Stop on in but beware of your bank account being a bit lighter. read more

Friendly and informative. That's really what customer service is all about. I've not run into any kind of issue thus far with any of the gun shops I've visited. They've never seen me before, but no one include SEC has given anything that I would consider "attitude". I don't expect puppy dog friendly, just a simple nod, "Hi, anything I can help you with...etc". These folks provided it. While they didn't have what I was looking for, I certainly would recommend anyone to visit them and give them a trial. read more

Purchasing my first firearm, I had a lot of questions and looked everywhere. The staff at SEC was very friendly and attentive. I was helped by a young man named Matt. He was very knowledgeable and patient. I ended up buying 2 hand guns and a bunch of ammo. I shopped around, and they were the only ones that had what I wanted in stock. I also checked out the prices on line and they were very competitive. I'd rather buy local anyway. I want the local stores to stay in business so I support them. I was able to get a parking spot in the back each time I came. It was usually the last squishy one in the back...but, oh well! I would definitely recommend this store. read more

Security Equipment Corp: One of My Favorite Island Firearm Distributors This review is long over due because I been a loyal customer for six years. Customer service at the Security Equipment Corp is excellent. The staff is both friendly and very helpful in providing information on firearms on inventory, consignment availability, and upcoming on-island gun shows. This is a great location to purchase inexpensive bulk ammunition. In the past I found some great deals for 9mm, 45 ACP, and .223. Security Equipment Corp has a decent selection and is a great location if one is looking to purchase Glocks or SIG SAUER handguns. There are also discounts for military and law enforcement personnel. The only reason why I did not give this establishment five stars is because of parking. Parking can be bad in the early afternoon. The options for parking is either on the street or limited stalls in the back of the building. read more

Well worth the drive from the leeward side! The staff here are friendly and highly knowledgeable about the products they sell, unlike other shops on island. After significant shopping around, I finally arrived at SEC. I showed up just before they closed and I can't imagine a better initial interaction. The first person I talked to was a man named Russ. He was very nice, very knowledgeable, and very patient. (remember I showed up less than an hour before they were closing). About fifteen minutes into it, a man named Jason worked his way into the conversation and worked with Russ to get me the weapon I wanted. (not condescending in the least) These guys are on the ball. They took their time, they showed me different weapons, and explained the little idiosyncrasies that made each weapon different from the other. IN SHORT, they freakin Rock. So much so that I bought my Springfield Saint AR right there and then. If you dont check these guys out before you buy, you are making a big mistake.
