While in search of Waffle Fries within a radius of my neighborhood, Offset BBQ showed up number one via yelp! Oddly, I have never bookmarked Offset, let alone recall driving by it being that I frequently visit Humboldt Park neighborhood. In spite of wanting Waffle Fries, I took a liking to the Grilled PB&J, and Cheesy Cauliflower which happened to be an option as a combination for the kiddos (kids) on the menu. Uh-uh! Nope! Not today because this adult ordered that combination of the Grilled PB&J w/ Cheesy Cauliflower as my kids side choice along with an order of Waffle Fries. Ha! There is street parking along N California Ave near the storefront of the restaurant which I had no issues with. Ordering online with yelp was very convenient because by the time I arrived my order was waiting on me behind the counter. Since I had an in-and-out visit, I parked and turned on my vehicle's hazard lights then went inside to pick up my order. Ah, the smell of this place inside! Even as a vegetarian for well over two years, I adored the smell of barbecue as I walked in. I tell you barbecue continues to be my weakness like kryptonite is to Superman, a superhero who appears in American comic books published by DC Comics. With that, I will refrain from future dine-ins at this casual style of ambiance, so that I am not tortured by the lovely smell of barbecue, hehe. As for my order, I had the biggest smirk on my face while eating the Waffle Fries, which I could not resist from eating while driving enroute to my destination. They were seasoned perfectly and were delicious as expected! And I now see why Offset BBQ was ranked number one for Waffle Fries during my yelp search. I was thankful to have had a fork inside of my vehicle's glove compartment because Offset BBQ sure did not put one inside of my bag. I really enjoyed the taste of the Cheesy Cauliflower, and I must say that if you are looking for an alternative to mac n cheese then why not consider putting together Cheesy Cauliflower. After my last bite, I said to myself "That was pretty good". I saved the best for last, and honey I tell you I had a big smirk on my face while opening its container. Looking at the PB&J, you would think that it was a grilled cheese sandwich, but no! Picture a buttery grilled cheese without the cheese, yet with peanut butter & grape jelly instead. Oh my goodness! And to think, they have this of all selections as a choice for the kiddos. It was delicious indeed! All in all, I had a great ordering experience with Offset BBQ. Loved the BBQ at Offset! You must absolutely start with the BBQ Queso Fondido. It's rich, smokey flavor along with the excellent brisket makes this a appetizer. We followed-up with mains and sides of brisket, pulled pork, waffles fries and elotes. All were wonderfully prepared and tasty. Despite this quick delivery of food, the food was really hearty and tasty. The "Meet the Meats" meal may not look like a lot yet it is very filling. Could be crispier but the delivery could have caused them not to be.i asked for them to be fried hard as well. Elote- it was on the cob; wrapped in foil so all of the toppings pretty much came off of it. Would be much much better with already shucked corn and in a cup. Coleslaw- I love coleslaw so I get it where ever it's offered...this one was pretty bland/dry. Not sure if they are going for a creamy style or vinegar based coleslaw but either way it needed more dressing. Corn bread- one of the best I've had. Delicious. We love, love, love this place and are regulars. The food is really great and we always order the bbq shrimp and the bim bim bap because they are soooooo good. What really brings us back though is the wait staff. It's hard for us to take our kids many places because they are restless, but we always feel welcome here. They go out of their way to make us feel that way. Maria, one of the waitresses on staff since they opened, always remembers my now 4yo and spends time having fun with him. All of the staff were welcoming and attentive the whole time I was there. I came here solo on a weekday afternoon for lunch and sat by the bar. I ordered bourbon sweet tea and the sausage sandwich w/waffle fries. The bourbon sweet tea was refreshing. The sausage sandwich was larger than I expected and the smokey flavor was excellent. The waffle fries are addicting, and I love their homemade white sauce. I kept dipping my fries in it. I really wanted dessert, but I was so stuffed from the meal. The second time I had Offset, I ordered delivery and we got the BBQ Bibimbap (with brisket), waffle fries, and chicken wings. The waffle fries were still as addicting as usual and the BBQ Bibimbap bowl was really good. I love the food, service, and I feel that the prices are extremely fair for everything you are getting. Chicago native, but lived in Texas for a few years so I got to learn real bbq and the subtle - but very real - bbq nuances. This spot is top notch for food and service and definitely one of the better bbq joints in Chicago. Aside from the fact that the owner is a Pittsburgh Steelers fan (I won't hold that against him), every single meat option I had was excellent. Myself and a friend did the meat platter (pork, pulled chicken, sausage, brisket, corn bread, slaw), along with a 1/2 chicken and quarter slab of ribs. Not one meat morsel was even close to average; it was all flavorful, juicy, smokey, seasoned to perfection and the type of bite you just want to go slow with and let it live its best life in your mouth. The accompanying sauces were all fabulous as well. The show stopper for me was the 1/2 chicken. It had little pockets of juice under the well seasoned and crisped skin that exploded with each bite. We also had old-fashioned cocktails, espresso martinis and a "leaded strawberry lemonade" (lemonade/vodka mix). The strawberry lemonade mix is something special. It was all topped off with a banana ice cream/brownie/whip cream dessert. I can't even start to try and express that symphony of sweet deliciousness; you just need to get one and try it for yourself. Comes in its own little fire hot skillet. Incredibly good. Wonderful ambiance, wonderful smokey wood scent the second you walk in, great hostess, super cool owner, and still somewhat of a hidden gem - so if you go for lunch you will get some good seating, great service, and an incredible meal. Wow oh wow...so glad this place has a loyalty card. I ordered takeout because my husband was away. This BBQ joint is in my neighborhood and easy to walk to. I ordered and paid online. Process was seemless and my order was ready a few minutes ahead of schedule. I was met by two friendly people who had my order all ready to go. Got home and plated this bad boy. Anyways as you can see from my score I loved the meats. I got the meat platter with add on ribs and chicken wings...Dont miss the chicken wings aka so good. We just had a wonderful experience at Offset; it was our second visit. My husband I live in the suburbs but we were in the neighborhood to treat our 3 grandsons for a birthday. They recently added a brunch menu. I had the brisket chili and eggs skillet and it was absolutely delicious. All 5 of us loved our food and the menu was nicely diverse with something for just about anyone. We want to go back for dinner to enjoy some barbecued meats and other great sounding items. There is a variety of appetizers, sandwiches, salads and meat options. The atmosphere is casual and the space was spotless and comfortable. Our server, Maria, could not have been any nicer or more accommodating. We enjoyed chatting with her. As well, a man (owner?) came to check on us. Best smoked brisket I think I've ever had! Great location, easy street parking, attentive staff and a super engaged owner / chef. It's a laid back place, with sports on the tv, alt classic rock on the speakers, and, this is important to me, the Goldilocks amount of background noise - not to loud, not to quiet - just right. We started with the plate of pickles - A generous portion of zesty house made dills, carrots, jalapeños and red onions. Presentation was really pretty too, with each veg laid out separately on a black serving dish. For my main, I got the BBBLT - their take on a BLT but with brisket and bacon - phenomenal. A generous sandwich, the bread was toasted to perfection, ice cold tomato and crunchy lettuce juxtaposed to the smoky brisket and crispy bacon. Ended up taking half home and looking forward to the left overs. Ordered a cup of the brisket chili for my side - super impressive as well. Smoky, good depth of flavor, and topped with sour cream and pickled jalapeños. Had to get the cornbread, again, generous portion, a dense cake-like crumb, with jalapeños and just sweet enough. Really a compliment to the meal. The Husband got the all meat platter with brisket and beef sausage, with cornbread, chili and green beans for sides. The Huli-huli green beans where flash cooked and seasoned with the house huli-huli sweet pineapple bbq sauce. Husband was a fan of everything and we agreed that this place needs to be on our - go-to list. Highly recommend this place for good, laid back BBQ. Looking forward to working our way thru the menu. First I will say the staff was excellent and the service was great. Everyone was super friendly, this review is purely based on the food. I started out with the brisket chili, it was good, nothing over the top, but definitely fine. Then we had the sampler platter with brisket, pulled pork, ribs and sausage. The brisket and pulled pork lacked flavor. I had to put a lot of BBQ sauce on them. The ribs were ok, a little dry but had decent flavor. The best thing was the sausage, I did enjoy that, it was flavorful and juicy. The cornbread was good and the fries were standard. Was just super disappointed in the pulled pork, brisket and ribs. Quality is good, but smaller than average servings for higher than average prices. $30 (that'll come to $37-40 with taxes and tip) for 3 spoons of meat, a sausage and a piece of cornbread dumped on a platter is just not ok. Again, quality is good, but given the wrong price point for what is just-a-small-BBQ-meal , I doubt this place will last long.. a 20% full place on a Friday night seems to confirm that. Too bad.
