They charge an arm and a leg to print, fax or copy something. the prices here are just unbelievable I wanted to ship something with FedEx and they charged 3 times the amount of actual FedEx. Who charges $2 to fax one page. I am never coming back to this place. read more

I gave it one star just so I could write my review. DO NOT purchase a laptop here or anything of that nature. If you have questions and need responsible honest help you probably will not get it here. In my experience the sales person is about the sales and will say what it takes to make the sale. Very poor customer service. I had a much better experience with Best Buy. OfficeMax is a convenient store in which to purchase office supplies: paper, inkjet cartridges, pens, paper, printers, file folders, and the like. You can even splurge and hook yourself up with a new laptop, digital cameras. Prices are pretty competitive, too. The only real issue I have with this place is the staff: they're either incompetent or rude, or both. read more

This is the nearest OfficeMax, but this is actually a review of the online ordering process, which is from Hell. I bought a chair from OfficeMax yesterday. It was an exhausting struggle. The DMV and the Post Office can't compete in resisting taking money from the public. OfficeMax succeeds in resisting the profit motive and providing a far worse experience. Here's the scenario: I need a widely adjustable chair and OfficeMax has one at decent price. They're offering $20 off and free shipping if and only if I order online. I've got a $50 OfficePerks credit which will expire in a couple months. I've got a store credit money card and have just purchased several $25 gift cards from a website that lets you buy 4 a month (it didn't have to be OfficeMax, but I planned this purchase) at 10% off... The $20 off is via a checkout code, and you can enter three of those, so no problem there. But they only allow one "gift card" on an order. And the "reward" masquerades as a gift card, so I can't use my store credit or any of the gift cards. OK, that's disappointing. Inexcusable, really. Starbucks allows you to transfer balances between cards, which would be a workaround, but OfficeMax can't (the friendly lady at OM customer service said you could, but put me on hold and came back to say "no", nor can you use smaller gift cards to buy a larger one or an eCertificate). I don't know whether I could use more than one in-store, but the online-only code precluded that possibility. Why is OfficeMax is stupider than Starbucks...? I found out about the "only-one" rule during checkout when I tried to enter a second card. The floating window pops up and you can enter a second card and its security code -- THEN it tells you that you can't use it, or substitute it for the first card entered, so it's just wasted your time. Worse than that, it also apparently sets some sort of flag saying you've committed an error, and does not reset it properly when you close the floater. It will punish you for this later. When you enter the pin it substitutes dots for what you type. I'm at home, I have no need of this "security feature". It makes it harder to tell if you've entered it correctly (or whether copy-and-paste has introduced an artifact) and intelligent form design would provide a check box to disable this... but "intelligent" is clearly a misnomer when applied to anything OfficeMax, ...which is immediately proven by the fact that after the credit from your gift card is transferred to your invoice the checkout process requires you to enter the security code you've just entered on the popup window AGAIN on the invoice! And not for the last time, it turns out. Because if it decides that you've made an error on, say, the pin for your credit card used to pay the balance it will ERASE this unrelated entry (as well) and make you do it again, dots and all. It complained about a bad entry, or the initially unnoticed erasure, several times to my increasing frustration. I was convinced that I was actually not making repeated errors behind the dots and resorted to beginning the checkout process from my shopping cart AGAIN, a couple times, to reset the apparent phantom flags. I was planning to go out that night, but the process of extracting a chair from OfficeMax was so long and exhausting that I ended up late and exhausted and trashed my plans. Wow, I went to OfficeMax last Sunday in an attempt to buy a printer. I found the perfect printer and it was on sale for only $40.00! However, after realizing that there wasn't one in a box ready to buy, my boyfriend approached the cashier asking if we could get help whenever she got the chance. She informed my boyfriend that someone would be over to help us shortly. After waiting approximately 10 minutes, I walked toward the back of the store to the photo section to inquire for assistance. Both of the gentlemen were helping other customers, so I walked back to the printer section where my boyfriend was waiting. Looking around, while still waiting in the printer section to be helped, I noticed three associates doing NOTHING. The cashier, whom my boyfriend initially spoke to, was chatting it up with a security guard in which appeared to be a personal/friendly conversation. The associate standing behind this weird long counter thing in the front was staring at us as if we were shoplifting, BUT NEVER ONCE BOTHERED TO ASK IF WE NEEDED HELP. The third associate kept going in and out of some side door in the front, which I'm assuming is an office. Regardless, not one of the associates ever attempted to help us. DEFINITELY NEVER going here again, nor will they be receiving any business from me online, as I usually purchase all of the office supplies for the law firm that I work for from their website. I bought an office chair, supplies and a new laptop computer. I paid $20 for the staff to assemble the chair, and the base fell off when I arrived home. I returned to the store, and they tried to blame me for not paying attention to the instructions. I reminded the assistant manager that due to upper body issues, I couldn't assemble the chair ... that's why I paid them to do it. I returned later to pick up my laptop and mouse. The sales rep was in a hurry ... it seemed as if they just wanted to make a quick, huge sale. When I arrived home, I experienced problems with the laptop. The assistant manager said he would be able to come to my place, but the cost wold be $139/hour after 10 minutes! The mouse wasn't working ... the assistant manager was very condescending, as if I am a "stupid senior citizen." (I have a masters in computer science.) Turns out, the mouse had a "dead" battery. The original sales person walked me through a few steps to get the computer online, and after installation, it ran very, very slow ... much slower than my 5 year old desk stop. I doubt if I'll do business with them again. My work ethic has been "do it right the first time" ... the staff at this store has a poor ethic. I just had a couple simple questions but an associate named "Angel" wanted to give me the run around .....now I understand the whole too many customers to handle but the respectful way to handle the situation is to tell the customer maybe call at a later time or come in and maybe I can be helped directly but instead I got the wait time of over 20 mins accumulated... Now if my patience was the best in show I would've waited until she actually got the manager...I could have went to the store waited in line and still be on hold .. Not to mention the phone just hung up after the first 15 minutes... I'm highly disappointed because all I had was a couple questions...maybe the manager that didn't want to come to the phone should better train their employees......my advice , if you need help even if it's just a couple QUESTIONS .....go in to the store and deal with it head on -_-" because calling over the phone doesn't help now a days ... Ordered (2) computers online, $800 worth. Notified order ready for pickup. Went to store in Vallejo and informed only have 1. Why? "We miscommunicated" . Requested they have second computer sent to Vallejo from Livermaore. Contacted today, second computer is not new computer rather is floor model. Why? "We miscommunicated" What will you do? "You can take floor model or take nothing" So Office Max onlike is not reliable. Office Max Vallejo does not care and apparently does not communicate. read more

My business partner and I came to this store to purchase office chairs. The store was nearly empty of customers but full of teenagers milling around. Several of them came and sat in the chairs and started spinning and scooting around, texting etc.. We had to ask repeatedly "could you please move so we can try the chair out?". There were no adults around and the store staff could have cared less. We finally picked out around $800 worth of merchandise and while the salesperson went to get our items, we were subjected to taunts and slurs, and one teen threw something at my partner, hitting her in the back of the head. She is also a disabled vet, and was wearing a hat that said veteran on it. One of the teens asked if she had truly been in the armed services, and when she replied yes, another one accused her of stolen valor. At this point, every one was yelling, including us for a manger. The presumed manager came over and told US we had to leave or he would call the police! I guess they would rather have a bunch of teens ( who followed us out of the store, cell phones aloft) than paying customers. A letter to corporate has gone unanswered. We will never go back there again. read more

The manager was extremely rude. I went to return an item because an employee made a mistake on my purchase. When I approached the manager at the cashier, I explained the situation and he gave me attitude, did not apologize for their mistake, and was ultimately unpleasant. He even argued with me about the misunderstanding. Overall, my experience with Office Max was horrible. read more

I have been patronizing this store for over 15 years making an ink purchase quarterly of $100. I also shopped there regularly for paper goods, planners, sticky notes, pens,even bought office furniture there too. There used to be a great manager named Patrick over the section where they do customized documents but he is gone. The store seems to have really deteriorated over the years. There is always a long wait at the register though at most there are 2-4 people in the store and most of the time more recently it has been completely empty. I went in to return a bad ink cartridge that I purchased there with the receipt. I got a bad cartridge once before. I imagine the company makes a lot of money refurbishing and reselling cartridges like they were new and occasionally there will be a bad one. I was told at the register and pointed to store policy which is you must have the box the ink was in, in addition to the receipt and return it in less than 30 days. I didn't have the box but met the other 2 requirements. I asked to speak to the manager because I wasn't trying to get my money back: I just wanted to exchange it and the ink is a lot of money. The clerk called the manager and told me that he said the same thing. With no one in the store he wouldn't even take the time to come to the register and address the issue. I wouldn't be surprised at all when Office Max goes out of business. I will be purchasing my ink from amazon from now on and its obvious they could care less that I spent $400 just on ink alone in their store every year. They have no respect for loyal customers & zero customer service! read more

In the last year their staff customer service has noticeably improved. They are helpful and pleasant. One female cashier also helped with some charity shopping we did there. read more
