Absolutely the worst service here. Came in twice for two different things and both times staff was rude. I went in for print and copy service the paper was out and so I went to use the other printer the document came out poorly printed. I informed the rep about the situation and asked if I could email my document and have her print it. She didn't offer to check what happened with me or anything. She said that I must have had a document poorly formatted. I absolutely know that it's not really formatted and it was an issue with the printer. Went in to get something laminated and was denied service because I wouldn't give them an email. This has happened twice. Office Max is the only business I've seen that turns down walk-in business. The store was empty at the time; it wasn't like they were too busy. I asked her politely to notify the store manager. 15 minutes goes by as I decide it was time for me to leave the manager appears from the back room. Our Dad passed away last week and we needed to print out his obituaries. Of course, we waited until the morning of the memorial service to print. We went to OfficeMax to get some help and we were directed to use the self service printers. It didn't have many settings on it and because the obituary was front and back, we didn't think it'd print out correctly. A gentleman named Mel Hoskins approached us and asked if we needed help; we which desperately did. We explained the situation and he gave us a few suggestions. The PDF we created cut off during the initial print out so we had to fix it before we could continue printing. Mel was patient the entire time. He suggested different solutions and explained why the format needed to be the way it needed to be. As a result, the obituary format was fixed and we got 50 copies printed right then and there. Mel's customer service was exceptional. On such a tough day, he was patient, caring, and willing to walk us through each obstacle we faced. 3 days ago I bought a desk. I brought it home and I assembled it and it just wasn't going to work. There were a couple issues with it. So I shopped around and I found a better desk. I was going to upgrade to a smart desk. I contacted customer service and asked them if I would be able to return the desk since it was already put together? They told me yes, but I would have to take it apart and put it back in the box and return it to my local Office Max. I have it all in writing in case I was presented with any issues . I honestly wasn't expecting any problems but it's best to have all your bases covered. Once I got to the store , they told me furniture can not be returned. I asked if I could please speak to the Manager. The Manager came out and said it's store policy that they can't return items once they have been opened bc it presents a " safety issue " . I'm disappointed bc I was already told that I could in fact return it. Had customer service told me no, it can't be returned initally when I contacted them . I would have accepted that. But the fact that I was told to disassemble it and it could be returned, just to be told " NO " after I did all that work and took it apart and boxed it up highly disappoints me. It's more about the principle at this point. I was literally about to upgrade and give them another $1000.00 dollars for 2 more items once I returned the desk, but now I have to question is this a store that I want to do business with ? I then called customer service and the Office Max Rep on the line was very helpful and tried her best. She tried talking to the manager for me but the Manager wouldn't budge. Also according to your website, it does list your return policy on different items . For some items , it clearly says that it can only be returned if box is unopened. However, on the furniture it does not say anything about box needing to be unopened. It states that it has to be unassembled , in original packing with UPC code and it needs to include all parts and manuals. And again prior to returning and disassembling the desk, I did chat with Office Max just to confirm that I could indeed return the desk and I got everything in writing stating I could do so just because the policy I read on your website could be interpreted in different ways. Initially the manager said furniture can't be returned period. Once I shown her the return policy listed on your website, she then asked me if the box had been opened and I said yes. She then changed her story to furniture can't be returned if it's already been opened. So we went from furniture can't be returned at all to now furniture can only be returned if box has not been opened. Did the policy change in 5 minutes? Then she changed her story a 3rd time and said well she didn't have room to take back the desk but I don't see how that is my problem? Talk about confusing! read more

We brought in two brand new artistic pieces bought in San Francisco to be laminated. They were so special we wanted them protected. Office Max ruined both of them! One was so off center that one corner of the piece sticks out from the lamination. The second one they crinkled and folded and then laminated it so the fold is permanent. Did they even offer to give us our money back?.. NO Did the offer to replace our artwork?... NO The only thing they offered was to laminate another poster for free - HOW WILL THAT FIX THE TWO THEY RUINED?!!! And there is no way we'd bring in another piece to be destroyed by them. Makyala always greet you, doesn't matter how many customer are there. Try to accommodate customer concerns. Store is really well organized. Always hard to find a staff member to help. If you want to use print services call ahead to make sure equipment is working, and see if it is staffed. Often there is no one there. Trying to get service can take a very long time when you do find someone there. My advice, look elsewhere, or if you know what you want then you will often wait at checkout until the staff are ready. read more

Every time we come to this store, we have to go through a long process to pay. For some reason Office Depot merging with Office Max has resulted in difficulty processing Corporate account as a method of payment.so being in that store for almost 45 minutes just for the payment part was nothing new. What I'm giving 5 stars to, is their manager Dan. He went above and beyond for us, trying to find the office furnitures we needed and have them delivered in a timely manner, even with the Christmas's Holidays! The best part was when we were about to pay, we had the same problem with their system. We usually end up just using our corporate bank card and end up without points. Dan never gave up, he researched and he called his boss, then he research some more, even though it was closed to closing time Dan did not give up and he found the solution. After waiting an inordinately long time to be acknowledged, I was informed that I should make my own copies, even though my project was on a thumb drive. When I mentioned that, I was told that they had no idea how long it would take for them to get to my project. This is one of the worst places to do both business and shop at. The management does not care about their customers, not even a bit. When someone walks in they try to literally sell anything and everything possible to them no matter what they are assigned to do. First of, the inventory sucks. The choices suck. The staff knows nothing about their inventory. The most important part is they are trying to sell you something no matter what you do. Warranty this, warranty that. A warranty on a calculator??? I wish I can give "0" stars. One of the worst experiences I've ever had. Lucy in customer service lacks professionalism as well as customer service. My mother recently passed away. I placed an order for her photo to be enlarged for her home going service in more than enough time in time. I prepaid and left tho photo with Lucy. She stated that she will have my order ready the next day. That is it shouldn't take long. I went back the next day (I live about 20-30 min away) and waited in line for over 30 min before she even acknowledged my presence. She then stated that all she had to do with the photo was mount it and that it was pretty much done. She asks if I could wait for an hour. I told her "No" due to being very BUSY with trying to finalize funeral arrangements. I told her that I will be back. She agreed. I went back 2 DAYS later to pick up my order.... I thought. Not only did she lie and my order wasn't ready but she lost my mothers picture. On top of that she was very unprofessional... unapologetic.. showed no empathy and acted as if she didn't care. Keep in mind, I now have one day before my mothers funeral. Thankfully I had the same picture in my phone so I had to go some where else. I ended up going to Staples and not only did they rush my order but it was done professionally without any issue but more money due to a rush order. I just want to complain about bad service, which I rarely do. But now I am doing it because of being upset twice by this establishment. FIRST TIME: The first time I took my large bags of shredding to the store I found out the staff will put it in a room in the back of the store, NOT UNDER LOCK, and wait until someone has the time to empty the bag into LOCKED bins for future pickup by the shredding service. The reason is that if the staff is busy, the management does not want them to stop services for other customers to unload and lock your shredding. They don't let the customers know that until they get into the store AND you have to ask where the shredding is going to be stored before it is locked up. SO ANYONE CAN STEAL YOUR PERSONAL INFORMATION! Did they care? NO. I lugged all my bags of shredding back out and take it home. Eventually I purchased a shredder and recycled it. SECOND TIME: 8/9/2016. I went to the store to print vital documents. The young lady doing the printing printed my documents. When I inspected the documents I protested that they looked gray, not black and white. She said the printer prints that way. I asked if the printer's cartridge could be changed, she shrugged it off and offered to reprint the documents and deepen the tone. My view is if a business is selling a service it should be as stated. If the business is selling copies, the toner should be fresh not washed out. I refused the reprint because I didn't want further disappointment. My documents were gray and white not b/w. What the manager should have done (standing by listening) was to offer to change the cartridge and THEN redo the copy job. I won't be going back to that store again. read more

I want to share that I frequent the Vallejo, CA store x 5 years now. I want to commend the young man running the store now as I believe his name is Romel. I have NEVER and I mean NEVER in my entire time coming here seen the Manager of the store actually WORK!!! He is always on the go and strives to answer as many customers questions as possible. I even visited during the COVID early stages and it was unfortunate he was short staffed and so many customers would flood the store. I am sure he has no control over budget given to him to staff adequately. He needs to be acknowledged and I am going to ask him next time I am in there. I was dumb enough to buy the protection plan on a printer ( not the first I bought). When I bought it - I asked "Shouldn't I have a booklet with the receipt?". It is "OfficeMax" after all and a new digital day and age. I really thought it was somehow all connected to my rewards number ( sort of like Sports Authority does) - receipt and plan all kept conveniently online . Cut to a couple of months later when the printer isn't working and I bring it back. They were so confused and useless. They couldn't find my rewards membership on the computer... And I HAD TO have the receipt! The girl cahier "Rachel", kept sighing and calling for the manager. He (Chris) came and shrugged - "Youre gonna have to contact the rewards people." followed by "were closing - you need to leave". No number to call - nothing! I have finally thanks to the AWESOME staff at this OfficeMax location finished creating and printing out labels for my products! This has been a process I can't even remotely cover here. Marco has been the most patient employee I have ever encountered in any of the office supply stores. I owe him lunch or fuzzy Christmas socks . He totally customized a project for me, followed up with prompt notification of project completion like a true professional. I didn't make it in until today and I witnessed true leadership and high level training taking place. I found out the trainers name was Lucy Sorry Trainee I didn't catch your name but you were attentive and eager to learn. I know both roles are challenging and I must say it was a good match! I came in advised Marco had previously helped me.. we pulled up files and I walked out with exactly what I came for. Lucy was able to navigate through the program and provide directions at the same time. I was very impressed with her patience and calm demeanor. read more

Service is terrible, employees are very lazy. I placed an order for printing twice. The first time they told me to go back in an hour. I went back and it wasn't ready and was told to go back the next day. I went back the next day (today) and it wasn't ready again! Then they said they would have it for sure in hour and when i return they had nothing again! Instead of writing peoples orders on post-its they should take their job more serious. Used be a good place. I got some great glass office furniture and a great well built chair on special and financed it at a great rate to boot.. Manager at that time assembled it himself and did a good job. Went back for a Paper Shredder about 2 years ago which costs about $100.00 and got a 3 year "replacement guarantee" which I found out today was worthless. The two employees in the empty store on Saturday morning were clueless and hired to say no. No receipt, no look, no information, no shit. Go away or call this 1-800-number called "square deal" and start the process. Like a square brick up your butt. I was told when I bought the shredder two years ago that I could get another off the shelf and walk out of the store and I didn't need a receipt since the charge was on my card. Today, Mr. NO said "that's changed" and handed me the Square deal pamphlet which involves boxing, shipping etc. etc. disclaimers, replacement conditions. Forget that, dumped in a land-fill with all the other worthless crap built over the years, cut my losses. Don't buy anything there and certainly no warranty as I doubt this place or chain will be open in a year-going the way of K-mart. Just go to Best Buy down the streetand use them.
