While renovating my company's new office, I had to buy about 6 oversized whiteboards and 2 oversized bulletin corkboards. Office Depot carries the best selection and best price of whiteboards compared to Office Max and Staples. This store location is decently clean. After I cleaned them out of the first round of whiteboards, it took about one month before I could buy more. Whenever I'd ask about them, no one could give me an answer. Many times I was led on by an employee that they could go in back and get one for me, but they would always come back with apologies - really not a big deal if they didn't get a new shipment, but they wasted a lot of my time leading me on. Convenient location and helpful staff

After surfing through the selection of filing cabinets offered at Amazon.com I figured I'd give the local brick-and-mortar a try. The furniture display section is pretty ghetto, but I just grabbed a 2-drawer metal filing cabinet for $50. I signed up for the loyalty program and received a $10 coupon and a metal water bottle, which is something I just happened to need anyway. That's a good deal. this is a very convenient location for me since i can walk from home. for everyone else, i'd still say the location is pretty good, near the intersection of el monte and el camino, which is a heavy traffic area. fortunately, there is plentiful parking in front of the store. i come by periodically to stock up on the basics for my home office and i'm always able to find what i need, i.e. reams of paper, writing instruments, notebooks, desk organizers. for my wedding earlier this year, i actually needed to buy some stickers as part of some DIY projects and they had a pretty big selection. staff is pretty friendly, and i've always been greeted by at least one staff member (if not two or three) whenever i stop in. one time i had to return something that i inadvertently damaged (slightly on the outside container) and they were more than happy to let me return the item for a full refund. since santa clara county is currently in back to school mode, this place has been busy as of late, with students and parents collecting items on their back-to-school lists. there have been many great discounts on school supplies as a result of this annual fall event. read more

The quality of service is extremely random and unpredictable at this store. Some employees are very helpful and interested in assisting you, and others would do anything to resist doing so, even telling you to check their website to look for a product since you know it better (than them) and disappearing during the conversation. I've been buying all my office supplies from this specific Office Depot location for years, but no longer, not after today. I gave my 14-year-old grandson $20 to stop by this Office Depot on his way home from school last week to pick up an Epson "69" printer cartridge in the color blue, and then drop it off at my office. A couple of days later I found an Epson "68" (not "69") cartridge in yellow on my office desk by my Mac. I was dumbfounded. How does someone get "69" and "blue" mixed up with "68" and "yellow"? I suppose that's a rhetorical question given that teenagers rarely think of anyone other than themselves! So today I took that WRONG cartridge back to that Office Depot location in Mountain View and asked if I could exchange it for the RIGHT cartridge. I did not have the receipt or the box the cartridge came in because my grandson threw them away, so I was counting on being treated with the respect that a frequent customer deserves. Instead I was greeted with insulting suspicion by the manager of the store. She had the audacity to suggest that maybe I found that cartridge and was trying to run a scam on her store. Really? Fucking really? If I was a low-life lying scumbag trying to run a scam on her store I would have asked for a refund to get money, but all I asked for was an exchange. She would not budge and so she's lost a long-time loyal customer to her store. I will go to other Office Depot locations from here on to buy my office supplies. If that manager at the Mountain View store was one of my employees I'd fire her ass in a heartbeat for insulting a customer as she insulted me. read more

How bad does a store customer service have to be? I think Office Depot MV is trying to find out. Was in the market for a brand new laptop. Had two manufacturers in mind but was happy to have been sold otherwise. The first time that I went in to OD, I asked for a certain brand, was told that they didn't have it and the "manager in training" walked away from me so I sadly looked around wondering was it something I said. The second time the next day, I returned to OD ( I know call me a glutton for poor cust svc) I told the same so-labeled "manager in training" that I was looking for a laptop.I did not specify a brand name. Aha, I thought, in this way, she can just sell me a decent machine. Jeez, she laughed at me and walked away. Seriously. So I seriously drove over to Best Buy MV, a little more driving from work, but they actually have nice sales people. I bought the very laptop at Best Buy that I am using now. I was happy to spend my laptop+ budget at BB. Don't bother going inside Office Depot unless you like wasting your time. read more

The management needs to train or retrain their associates to deliver good quality customer service. I had a terrible experience this morning with one lazy, back-talking worker who treated me like a low class citizen when I was asking nicely for help in looking for an item after I have been searching in the area I was directed to for a good amount of time. She was just pointing me to the area where I came from. Is it so hard to do your job and go with me so I can finally buy what I was looking for and save us both our time? I hope this is an isolated event and not the norm. I normally don't step foot in this store and order stuff online, now I am reminded why. I left feeling bad and stepped on and treated like an idiot, ruining my morning. Not acceptable and no excuse for behaving like that on the job. If you work in customer service, you are supposed to help customers and do it in a pleasant manner, especially if you are being asked nicely. It's not even going the extra mile. I went to have copies made, after first going to FedEx/Kinkos and having a horrible experience. The young woman who helped me at Office Depot in the print section was amazing. She asked the right questions to figure out what I needed done and handled my entire print job while I waited. She even separated the major sections of my presentation with post-it notes without me asking, and that was really helpful. Will be coming back. read more

They have a good selection of office supplies (like ink cartridges, printer paper, etc.), desks, cabinet and other handy things, but when you come here, you will pay an arm and a leg for it. The store is understaffed quite frequently, and some (I reiterate some) employees are not very helpful, and in some instances, rather unwilling to help. I have begun purchasing my supplies at Costco, because it is half the price, and it's the same product. Granted, a Costco, nearly everything is a mess, but if you find it, you've saved yourself your two limbs. read more

Super convenient location. Used to go here often for random and substantial supplies. Haven't been in a long while and... I think it's even worse than it used to be (only marginal a few years ago). Stopped in today - walked the store a few times trying to find a tape measure. Actually saw folks in Office Depot shirts TURN AWAY from me when I got near (it was pretty obvious that I was searching for something). Finally caught someone's attention and he took me to where the item USED to be. The display was no longer there and so he told me they must have run out. I said "Really? You RAN Out so don't stock them anymore?" and so he asked someone else... who pointed us to the display that (thankfully) still had a single measuring tape hanging on a peg. Got up to finally pay for the various items I'd picked up and, the cashier asked if I had an Office Depot card. I told him "no, I threw it away when you wouldn't help me to update the information." He didn't even seem to care. I actually did destroy the card when I was told I'd have to go in to their website to update my email address. I'd had the card - opened with my personal phone number - from a previous startup and I wanted to get the statements at my current startup. They couldn't do anything for me. I have been shopping here ever since they opened. But on April 6 I went to Office Depot at 910 El Monte Ave in Mountain View, CA and purchased a box of 250 windowed envelopes, product # 679347. The cost was $36.99 and I thought that was pretty high. So I later checked Office Depot on line, searched by product number and found the same thing for $26.99. There was no indication of a special. I then went back to the El Monte store on April 9 and asked why such a big price difference. The clerk told me that sometimes they have specials online and the prices aren't updated at the stores. I pointed out there was no special indicated online, but the clerk did give me a refund of $10+ for the difference. This is rather disturbing; that is a SIGNIFICANT difference in pricing. i can never find what I want here - 5th cut file folders, a certain type of plastic folder, and can't find stuff within the store e.g. tape. it is NOT logically laid out. you would think the sticky stuff would be together e.g. glue and tape? or things to stick paper together like paperclips and tape? but no, it's somewhere else! it is impossible to exit this parking lot and get onto el camino in a safe fashion the people seem nice, but when I asked do you have X, they said if it's not on the shelf, then no. rather than let me check in back or something. LOUSY customer service if you need help with anything. I was ignored while waiting in line for the copy/shipping services. The cashier looked at me several times, did not say a word, helped someone else who wasn't in line and then just left. When I talked to the manager he said, "Oh, I saw you there but I was called to do something else." You couldn't even acknowledge my presence and let me know someone would be right with me?? Need some filing supplies and saw them listed online for one price. When I went to the store, it was priced higher. When I mentioned the difference to the cashier I was told that the online pricing isn't the same as the in store pricing. Then I proceeded to ask if I had gone ahead and done the pick up in store transaction, what price would I get? The answer was the online price. (The entire time, the cashier had this attitude like "I'd rather be anywhere but here.") ZERO CUSTOMER SERVICE. I went home and tried to place the order via "pick up in store" option. As much as I like that this place is reasonably nearby I have to be honest and say that it's in a terrible location. It's easy enough to get in but getting out and back into El Camino is ridiculous because you can't make left turns nor u-turns so you have to drive into Los Altos, go into a driveway and turn around to come back. The other problem is that most of the time when I send someone there with a flash drive for a quick print job, they can't read the flash drive. I always have the flash drive brought back to me where I Test it with a dedicated utility and it's never defective (I can always read the files just fine). It's the 21st century, there is never a reason to not be able to read a flash drive. This impacts me a lot because I'm an independent consultant and not getting a job finalized quickly means that the client might not call me back the next time. I've never had any problems printing anywhere else. The employees here are lackadaisical, and are unresponsive when we ask for help. When a flash drive can't be read by their computer all they say is "it happens". They don't check in another machine, they don't reboot, they don't reinstall their HFS driver, nothing. It's rather disappointing, and has been consistently this way for years. read more

I don't frequent Office Depot much for office supplies, etc. BUT I have recently discovered their reproduction service and this has made my life 10x more easier. If you ever had to go to Fed Ex (Kinko) for your reproduction services you will understand my pain. Office Depot has raised the bar. I have emailed them 3 different jobs and literally w/in 5 minutes, they emailed me back saying it was ready. This service must be the best kept secret in Mtn View for that fast a turnaround OR maybe they just have the right staff doing the right things. We came here to get a new office chair since my hubbie said his butt was getting sore from the old-I-inherited-this-from-my-ex-many-"moons"-ago office chair. Anyway, we came and found one that was on sale, and we had a coupon for $20 so we thought "what a deal!" Well, for some reason their truck which had about 20 of these chairs in stock was completely loaded and no one was there to unload it into their back warehouse. So we ended up not getting the chair. We come back a week later and come to get the chair again, but the chair wasn't on sale any more. We complained and they said they'd give it to us at that price since the tag that was still advertised was still the sale price. Then they went on to try and sell us a plastic chair mat over and over again with a BS line about how our carpet WILL get black because of the wheels. All of this just put a sour taste in our mouths for this Office Depot. read more

Went to Fry's for 4 computers items that my daughter needs for college. Spent over an hour there and walked out with one item and totally confused. Went over to Office Depot and was helped by Matt, he had all the items for us in less that 10 minutes at the cost of about $200.00 less than Fry's was offering us. He followed the list that USC sent my daughter and explained why the brands that he chose for us were the best for our needs. great service by an elderly gentleman in glasses. I was greeted when I walked into the store with my son. He asked if he could help me. He then helped me find the right "ink" for my printer (he was well informed) he then helped me pick out a shredder (explaining options and value - and pointed me to high quality option that was on sale. I experienced customer service which is a rarity these days. I really wished I would have gotten his name so I hope his manager sees this and figures out who this great customer service employee is. I experienced some outstanding customer service here today from a Department Manager names Ariel. The item I was looking for is so archaic, that they no longer carry such a thing. He went to the trouble of looking on-line to see if OD carries it at all, and when he found out that they do not, he pursued the search even deeper, coming up with exactly what I was looking for on Amazon.com. I left with a print-out of the relevant page, a big smile on my face, and a great deal of appreciation for the time he saved me and the successful outcome of my search. I will absolutely be going back to this store (over several other office supply options) simply to "repay" the favor that good employee did for me today.
