I was pleasantly surprised when I walked into this restaurant. Inside is such a cozy vibe - exposed brick, fall decorations everywhere I loved the decor its so nicely done. It's bigger than I thought it would be judging from the outside. They have a small bar that you can sit at as well. I took my mom here and we went pretty early - the restaurant was empty and there wasn't a waitress working so the owner happily served us. My mom ordered catfish with Mac and cheese and grits, I ordered fried shrimp with Mac and cheese and potato salad (yes we're carb lovers don't judge us lol). We were brought a basket of warm cornbread which was very good and I don't really care for cornbread. The owner talked with us a little while we waited for our food - he was very personable which made us feel right at home. They have comedy nights there on certain nights as well as a jazz band that plays during brunch on the weekends. Again, such a vibe. The food was very good - the fish and shrimp were freshly fried (yes I can tell the difference between fresh and reheated), the Mac and potato salad was well seasoned and my mom said her grits were good as well. I have to say I really liked this place - good food thats not overly expensive in a good vibe - it's definitely a place to try!

The is the only place since I've been in NY that's has a shrimp and etoufee worth ordering.

Food is great here, definitely not rushed and seasoned and cooked with perfection every single time. Don't go here and think you're sticking to eating proper portions .

The blandest chicken wings and fish & shrimp I have ever tasted.

I tried this restaurant based on the positive yelp reviewson a Sunday but ordered online instead of dining in. I ordered the fish and shrimp with potato salad as well as greens. My friend ordered the fried chicKen wings with macaroni and cheese. We also ordered the lemon pound cake to share. long story short - most of the food was horrible! Both the chicken and fish were unseasoned and bland. I definitely have had better food at a buffet. My friend and I both had a side of potato salad with our meals. It was the only the decent part of the meal. The pound cake was good also but nothing was great. We definitely wasted our money on this food so I have no plans to return to this restaurant in the future.

Collard green ramen. Just need to add the potliker.

Went there this evening. I'm a picky eater, I don't like loud noise, or crowds; but this was a nice experience. I had one of the soups of the month. The collard green ramen. I enjoyed every sip of the potlicker, the bean sprouts were crisp, and the collards gave it an earthy flavor I enjoyed. I finished my bowl add the sauce with the crushed pepper flakes. It gives it a kick. Best meal I've had outside in a while. - Ngina Blakeney.

The food was superbly prepared! The atmospher inviting and cheerful! Many laughs, licking of fingers and smacking of lips! Yes, we ate! The Jerk eggrolls are the best! The cabbage though! OMG! Come on with the salmon! So much to choose from! Looking forward to coming your way again very soon. Hugs to your beautiful Mom and the support staff! God's blessings upon your head.

I came here on a date and had no expectations whatsoever. The interior is really nice and cozy. It almost feels like you're in someone's home. We were greeted by the waitress at the bar and got to sit wherever we liked. There were two other tables seated as well. We were given menus and water and quickly decided what we wanted to order, but we ended up waiting about 15-20 minutes after getting the menu to actually place our order. Our waitress seemed busy with the other tables. We ordered the Catfish Nuggets and the Jerk Chicken Egg Rolls to start. For entrees my date got Jerk Chicken Pasta with Grilled shrimp, and I got the Po' Boy Sandwich with Jerk Chicken. After we ordered, it took over an hour for us to receive our appetizers. Our waitress wasn't anywhere to be found, and in the moments we saw her briefly, she walked past us without saying a word. No update on our food or anything. We figured that maybe she was busy with the other two tables, but the table beside us had already gotten their entrees, and the other table only had four patrons, so we couldn't understand why it took so long for just the appetizers. Eventually we got our appetizers and the Jerk Chicken egg rolls looked a bit overcooked. The waitress apologized for the wait upon bringing our food, and even opted to give us an extra Jerk Chicken Egg Roll appetizer to make up for the time waiting. Unfortunately, while my date was a fan of the Egg Rolls, I wasn't a fan at all. I thought the flavor was very light, and there wasn't much spice at all. Figured it was just me. The Catfish Nuggets were superb however, and the sauce they brought with it paired very nicely. The entrees came soon after we received our appetizers. This is where things get interesting. My date was a big fan of her pasta, but she loved the shrimp. I wasn't a big fan of my Po Boy Sandwich. It was okay but left a lot to be desired. She tried the sandwich and agreed. I thought her pasta was pretty good honestly, and the shrimp was fantastic. The food ove was hit or miss flavor wise. The portions were pretty good considering the price and the area. Overall, this restaurant is pretty hard to recommend. The service was mediocre at best, and the food was mostly lackluster. Pricing for everything seemed fair overall, but the hour long wait didn't sit well with either of us. I honestly would've given this place two stars, but I gave the additional third star because the waitress did apologize for the wait (without a reason, but hey it's something) and did give us a free appetizer. But even with that, of the four items we ordered, we both only really enjoyed two of them. Perhaps we'll return to give them a second shot, but I can't recommend this place until I do.

I went to the place for a comedy night that's held once a month, not only did I cry laugh, the food was great as well. Fish fried to perfection, the fried chicken was beyond seasoned! You can tell it was negro hands preparing that food. Service was efficient and our server was a pleasure. The ambiance was so smooth and classy, there's an indoor water fall fireplace, that's . Come through for that down home cooking

I've been here 4 times and each time is worse, which is disappointing because it started out very promising. The first two times were amazing. We dined in and had a nice experience. The space is small but it gets the job done. The third time we came for takeout. We ordered meals for 4 people and it wasn't until after we paid that we were told 1/2 of our items were out of stock. We changed the order but it would have been helpful to know upon arrival. The take out was just okay, nothing fancy. We came back a fourth time and it felt as if there was a new chef. The squash soup was good. The Mac was gritty and very liquid. The cornbread was cold. It just felt disappointing to what we were used to from our first few visits. Parking is rough so be aware.

Finding a decent soul food restaurant is getting pretty precarious. Especially where you can sit and enjoy the food. Love Alvin's but sometimes I just want a good non buttermilk fried chicken. This spot hit. Started with complimentary corn bread that was really VERY good and hot. Hush puppies were delicious. Mains generous portion of wings with Mac and cheese and collard greens. Collard greens (vegetarian) yummy! Chicken TASTY without being salty. Mac and cheese is seasoned. Catfish and shrimp just yummy, hot seasoned and not salty nor greasy. Although food was fried, nothing was greasy. The gentleman who seated us (I think his name was Brandon) was attentive without hovering. Food arrived at table hot. Restaurant felt calm, sound system nice and mellow. Enjoyed the R&B. If I cannot make it to Sylvia's, Melba's, Kings Southern, BLVD or Charles, I will return to this spot.

Off the Hook dine-in restaurant recently opened and just in time for Yonkers Downtown restaurant week. They opened late last Fall with a take-out storefront only. The take-out area is still there so when you walk in to the establishment the dining room is to your left. As soon as we walked into the dining room, we felt the heat which was welcomed on a chilly day. We would soon find out that the warm feeling would be carried through from the staff through dining and leaving as they welcomed us to Off the HOOK. We were greeted by a woman who was so hospitable and friendly. She asked to take our coats and also if it was our first time. The inside is very stylish with brick walls, marble tabletops and comfortable chairs draped in black fabric. We spoke a little while longer before reading the special menu for Restaurant Week which offered 3 options for a prix fixe meal. All three options were appealing to us, so we picked two and shared. Hot fresh cornbread came to the table that was moist with a hint of sweetness and whole corn kernels. I tried to eat it slow but that was not happening. A beverage was included in the $20 price meal options included several beer and white or red wine choices as well as nonalcoholic beverages. The stemware is very elegant, and the silverware was wrapped in a paper napkin with a little decorative string wrapped around the utensils. Nice touch. My Sauvignon Blanc was crisp and smooth at the same time. For lunch we decided on the fried fish and Jerk chicken entrees. The whiting and shrimp were perfectly fried. Not overdone, not greasy and the fries were perfect. The homemade tartar sauce was so damn good I dipped my fries in it. The Jerk chicken, candied yams and rice were a hit. That jerk seasoning was so good, not too spicy but had a kick and the chicken was moist. The candied yams were slammin'. Portions were generous so take home boxes were provided. When it was time to leave the owner/hostess insisted on getting our jackets and helping me put it on. I was very impressed with the ambience, friendly staff and food and can't wait to return.

They were preparing for a party and were closed but so generously allowed my mother and I to dine there for Mother's Day. The food was extremely delicious, and the service was impeccable. We did not wait too long for the food, and they had everything on the menu that we wanted and then some. I did not get a picture of the dessert, but let me tell you something--leave room for it. It did not disappoint, not one bit.

This spot feels like it's quietly stepping into a much-needed role as a high-end date night option…read morein an area that leans heavily casual and family-friendly. The crispy octopus easily rivals anything I've had in Manhattan, super tender with just the right crisp. The cassava hash browns were so good I was almost annoyed by how simple they were. Paired with a rich, meaty sauce and a fresh fennel crunch, the whole dish was incredibly balanced. The wings were the most straightforward item on the menu (in the best way), lightly spiced, slightly sweet, and great for picky eaters. Someone needs to give the bartenders a raise. I ordered three drinks just to test consistency--every single one was balanced, spirit-forward, and not overly sweet. The presentation was different on each one and felt intentional without being gimmicky. I've seen some of the lower Yelp ratings and they mostly call out price, but this is very much a you get what you pay for situation. The quality of the food, the portion sizes (especially for this level of execution), and the overall intentionality behind the menu justify it in my opinion. Service was excellent. They squeezed me in last minute, and my waiter, Dionicio, handled my coconut allergy (not easy at a Dominican spot) with real care and ease. The space itself is worth mentioning - moody, mushroom/mossy interiors. Super cute, very well thought out, and definitely a place I'll be coming back to.
