I've eaten here 3 times in 2 days, and as with another review from a conference attendee Yelp poster from a few months ago, perhaps this place is best enjoyed sporadically.
Today's experience dropped my rating from 3 1/2 stars to 2 because they forgot about me sitting here waiting to be seated for 45 minutes while empty tables just sit there open.
From the other 3 experiences: The food was pretty good, especially for a hotel restaurant - even if the price is a little on the high side for a casual restaurant without any kind of culinary flair (the food is plated with the same design as a diner, and there's nothing special about the items themselves). It's typically well cooked and flavored, and ample enough so that you (generally) don't feel hungry after eating.
The a la carte pancakes I ordered were delicious (though I would've liked more maple syrup), and I enjoyed the crunch and seasoning of the halibut's coating on the fish and chips. The lobster salad added on top of arugula salad option was good, not "out of this world" - though perhaps it would've been better as a lobster roll. I could've also had it on the kale salad, but I think they should offer a mixed green option for adding lobster salad or salmon - it's a pricy add-on that ruins both the entree salad and the lobster salad when paired together, so I picked the lobster out to eat separately. It would've been better just to ask them to scoop it onto a separate plate, as I ended up leaving half of the order behind - thankful that the (pricy) cup of clam chowder made up for the ruined dish. My travel companion had the burger and enjoyed it as well.
Service is a little slow, though, and once your meal is delivered that's pretty much it (except for when they wait to pick up your paid bill). The host/hostess leave much to be desired - this is my consistent impression over each of the visits.
As far as the experience today, I'm writing this with my (now cold) Starbucks coffee while sitting in a side lounge directly across from the "please wait to be seated sign". I had asked to be seated for Saturday brunch in the back room here, near the buffet but I was told there was no room there and directed to the main area - that is in the open center of the hotel lobby, which was nice at first but after 3 visits just feels like you're sitting in a fish bowl. Also, since I've had a good chunk of free time on my hands waiting here hoping to be remembered, I noticed that foot traffic is surprisingly slow given how packed many places are on a holiday weekend Saturday brunch.
Considering each meal here has cost around $75 for two people (not including the 20% tip I've always added), and the service is a little slow, I'd recommend patience and a large group for this restaurant. They have been very prompt and responsive to them (maybe because of a bigger tip potential?). As a hotel guest, you'd think they'd be more attentive because of the potential for recurring business, but I don't think they use that customer service model here.
My advice is - if you're easily annoyed at being forgotten, then I'd definitely say avoid this place and explore a local place. What you'll lose in convenience you'll gain in value and service. read more
