I arrived at the store today with two very different eyeglass prescriptions (I had had to change ophthalmologists, and had therefore received a second prescription) , so I asked to undergo an eye exam at the store to reconcile the two. The optometrist who did the exam was kind, highly knowledgeable, and extremely thorough. The assistance with choosing eyeglass frames afterward was also patient and kind, with zero pressure to choose something more expensive. This place is the real deal.

Overall a really positive experience!

I didn't actually have an eye exam here because the staff did not know how to process my insurance which was a waste of everyone's time. Really disappointed all around. I was able to schedule an appointment over the phone a few days ahead of time which was great. I provided my insurance information. I asked them to confirm that tinted lenses were covered by my plan, the person I made the appointment with said it's not covered. I checked with my insurance and it is covered. No big deal, I can sort that out when I get there. I went to my appointment. (I didn't get a reminder call, they said I would.) They said that the exam was just for refraction, I said no, I need dilation, too, because I have high myopia. The person behind the counter said that dilation is not covered by my vision insurance (Davis) as part of a routine exam. I pulled up the plan description and showed her that it was in fact covered when deemed medically necessary. Given my history, it is *always* medically necessary and literally every eye exam that I've had, even with an optometrist, comes with dilation and not just refraction. I showed them the summary plan description, they refused to accept what it said. They said that insurance companies say one thing to patients and then refuse to pay providers and don't always give patients the right information. (I don't disagree that someone on the phone can give you the wrong information, but I literally had the written documents saying that this was covered.) They showed me in their system that routine eye exams are covered, but they said that, in their office, routine eye exams *do not* include dilation. **They insisted that if I wanted dilation with my exam that I would have to provide them with my medical insurance information. I was not having a medical issue with my eyes, I needed to get a new prescription and a routine, annual check up. This is not covered by medical insurance!** They offered to contact Davis Vision and said that the wait time would be over an hour to speak with a rep from the insurance company. They offered to keep the appointment and only do refraction, not dilation, unless I provided them with my medical (not vision) insurance information, since they wouldn't be able to confirm that dilation was covered by the vision insurance. I said I'd wait for them to confirm that dilation was included, they said they'd contact me later in the day to let me know. I never heard from them. I declined the partial exam and left.

Good morning Please be advised…read more This message is for Artis L. Beatty OD and Sandipkumar Patel OD July 7th 2026-Tuesday My mother and I went to My Eye Dr. 38-03 Broadway Astoria NY 11102 718-956-3000 (Former American Eye Care Dr. Mark R Stadlen OD) for annual appointments. We both were scheduled for 3pm and 3:30pm by Peter. Paperwork was filled out for our charts and Mr. Zion assisted us very pleasant, attentive and helpful. My mother and I completed Eye exams with Zion and Peter and had a great visit with the doctor on duty due to Dr. Van being on vacation. Very great doctors. Never a problem with the doctors. We both are very displeased with the experience we had at the My Eye Dr. Queens location due to the unprofessionalism displayed from your staff members Hailey, Peter and General Manager, Rob Morrison. After seeing the doctor, doctor advised us to wait at the counter until one of the staff members came to assist. It took time for someone to come to the counter due to staff taking breaks and helping other customers. I was seen first by the doctor and no one was available to assist me with picking out the eye glasses so I went back in the room with my mother for her appointment. Once all appointments were completed my mother and I waited at the eye glass table escorted by the doctor. No one came over to serve us. Hailey was outside on a break vape smoking and Peter was on the computer Still waiting at the counter. General Manager, Mr. Rob was assisting a couple that just walked in never once did he acknowledge us at the counter. My mother asked Hailey if someone was going to come to the counter to assist. Then Hailey bumped into mother and didn't say sorry rude behavior. Still waiting at the counter. Rob was already upset due to the fact that we had a grievance letter to show him and staff member, Zion presented it to Rob and his facial expressions changed as if he was angry so he continued to make us wait. Zion put the grievance letter in our folder for review and discussion with Rob. Rob has overcharged my mother over $150 for bifocals lens over the years and the allowance always covered the expenses. Years of 2024 and 2025 multiple bills were sent to my mother for payment after paying the first amount but after a thorough investigation Health First discovered that the amounts that were spent should have not been paid. Peter comes over to serve the couple and while he's serving them with eyeglasses my mother asks Peter when will we be served and he replied he didn't know. We were next to be taken care of. This is totally unacceptable so the lady customer that was standing at the counter and started throwing up her hands and fingers and I intervened because no one was going to hit my mother. No one was aggressive but the couple but they were still served. Rob finally comes over after ignoring us the whole time and makes a comment, "Let's act like adults!" So this is where the commotion started. Still waiting to pick out eyeglasses. Unacceptable. I don't know if Rob was intoxicated or under the influence but he was acting very strange yelling at the customers me and my mother throwing his hands up and expressing are we ready to pick out the eye glasses and then kept changing his mind. Rob refuses to serve us but served the other couple that was served just by waking in. Cash customers first over insurance customers? What is going on here? Then Zion was trying to serve us so we can pick out our eye glasses however, Rob stopped the service and instructed Zion to take our appointment out the system. So our information was shredded. This is unacceptable. On the same day I contacted my mother's health insurance company to make a complaint and this matter is under investigation. My father also attended the same eye doctor location and Rob agreed to let us come back to pick out our eye glasses in 6 days from 7/14/26. Haven't heard anything as of yet. Contacted My Eye Dr. Spoke to Ava and have not heard anything from the District Manager, Mr. Erin. Thank you

My experience with Cohen's Fashion Optical in Jackson Heights, Queens, has significantly changed…read moreover the years, particularly with the shift in staff and focus. Previously, the customer service prioritized patient care and eye health, but now the emphasis seems to be on financial gain rather than customer satisfaction. I initially visited the location under the care of Dr. Kim, and later transitioned to Dr. Martinez. Recently, I scheduled an appointment to get contact lenses. I used my insurance coverage and still had to pay out-of-pocket for a six-month supply of contacts, which led me to sign up for Cohen's in-store credit card. I was given a trial supply for a week; however, by the second day, I experienced discomfort and headaches from the lenses. When I returned to inform the staff, I was told to wait until my full order arrived. During this waiting period, I requested a copy of my prescription to purchase glasses elsewhere. The staff hesitated to provide it, which is concerning as withholding a prescription from a patient is against the law. After insisting, I was finally given my prescription and ordered glasses from an external retailer. Ironically, my glasses arrived before the contact lenses I had initially ordered from Cohen's. When my contacts finally arrived, Dr. Martinez advised the staff to order three different brands for me to try. However, a month passed without any updates, despite the fact that I had already begun making payments for items I did not even have. Upon following up, I was told to continue making the payments. After an additional week and a half, I returned only to find out that my trial lenses had been sitting there without any notification to me. After trying the three different brands, I found that the most comfortable pair was actually cheaper than my original order. However, Cohen's attempted to charge me $50 more than the market price. Prior to this, I had researched the brand and its market value, confirming the overcharge. This experience highlights the lack of communication within this particular branch and reinforces the perception that their primary focus is profit rather than patient care. The shift in priorities at Cohen's Fashion Optical - Jackson Heights is evident in their reluctance to provide basic information, failure to communicate with patients in a timely manner, and questionable pricing practices. While I have been a long-time customer, this experience has left me reconsidering whether I will continue to seek services at this location. For those in search of reliable and patient-centered optical care, I would recommend exploring other options before committing to Cohen's Fashion Optical. "This company lacks a genuine mission or core values. Their responses to reviews are generic and insincere, showing little interest in real customer feedback. It feels like they care more about appearances than actually addressing concerns."
