We were placed at a really not ideal table despite the restaurant being fairly empty. Right by the door and the bar. It took an exceptionally and noticeably long time to even get water and then our waitress said she'd be back in a "few minutes" to take our order, that ended up being over 20 minutes waiting. When she came back she said did anyone come and take your order yet and we were like ??? The food also took a long time to come out. My dinner mate got the sliders which were supposed to be a special entree and yet the size was more appetizer with literally what looked like a handful of fries thrown haphazardly on the plate. I got the chicken parmigiana which wasn't terrible hence the two stars. However the grilled vegetables that it came with were lukewarm at best by the time they arrived. The energy was off the entire time and we definitely didn't feel welcomed or like we were receiving any kind of hospitality. The bussers who came by to fill our glasses and clear our plates were lovely but that's about it. The waitress disappeared for the rest of our time there other than when we got the check. There was a hostess and another staff member standing at the front and we both individually said thank you to them as we were leaving and they ignored us completely. After reading some of the other reviews, seeing the other patrons and how they were treated compared to us, I can't help but feel like we were being discriminated against (my dinner mate is Black) which is really frustrating and disgusting. I will never be returning. It's a shame that I have to avoid a place like this in my own neighborhood.

Any restaurant that has thrived for more than four decades must be doing something right, and after…read moremy recent visit, it was easy to understand why. From the warm hospitality to the outstanding food, this was one of those dining experiences that leaves a lasting impression. If you're looking for a great excuse to visit midweek, be sure to stop by on Wine Wednesdays, when bottles of wine are half price. It's the perfect opportunity to gather with friends, unwind, and enjoy a leisurely Italian dinner without breaking the bank. Now, let's talk about the food. The standout of the evening was, without question, the double-cut grilled pork chop with vinegar peppers. This wasn't just a good pork chop--it was the best pork chop I've ever eaten. Expertly grilled with a beautiful char on the outside, it remained incredibly juicy and tender on the inside. It was finished with a rich brown sauce and tangy vinegar peppers that added just the right amount of acidity and depth, creating a perfectly balanced dish. The entrée included a choice of pasta or potatoes and vegetables, and I'm so glad I chose the latter. The real mashed potatoes were creamy, buttery, and clearly homemade, while the grilled broccoli and string beans were cooked perfectly--tender with just enough bite remaining. To start, we ordered the Clams Casino special. These were far from the typical version topped with a small amount of bacon and breadcrumbs. Each clam was generously stuffed with a flavorful seasoned breadcrumb mixture and baked to perfection. Served alongside warm seeded Italian bread, it made for an excellent beginning to the meal. The bread was fresh, crusty, and ideal for soaking up every last bit of sauce. My husband ordered the egg battered lemon sole in a white wine butter sauce, and it looked just as impressive as it tasted. The delicate fish was coated in a light egg batter that created a solid exterior while keeping the sole moist and flaky. Accompanying the dish was a generous bowl of penne tossed with garlic and oil, a simple preparation that allowed the quality of the ingredients to shine. Both entrées were served with fresh side salads dressed with a perfectly balanced oil-and-vinegar dressing. One bite immediately brought back memories of the simple, delicious salads my grandmother used to make--fresh, flavorful, and never overdressed. The restaurant itself is tucked away in a small plaza, making it feel like a hidden gem. During the warmer months, guests can take advantage of the spacious outdoor patio, complete with umbrellas and comfortable seating. It provided the perfect setting for a relaxing summer evening filled with great food, good wine, and wonderful company. I left happy, completely satisfied, and already planning my next visit. Mamma Assunta has earned its reputation over the years, and after this meal, I can confidently say it's a place I'll be returning to again and again. There is meter street parking as well as an outdoor municipal right across the street.

The service was OK, bus boys were excellent, but the waiter was nowhere to be found. It got annoying looking for grated cheese, pepper, and not being checked on. And then we had to try to find the check! That took quite a while. The restaurant was not busy at all. There might've been three tables seated, but the waiter just disappeared. So, unfortunately, I have to give it a three star.

Considering that I went in on opening night I wasn't expecting to be blown away. That being said, cancel all your future reservations anywhere else and RUN to ODO. The mozzarella melts in your mouth.
