I've hired Mo four times over the past three years for a mix of jobs around the house, and he's…read moredelivered every time. What I value most is that he is reliable, explains what he's doing, and stands behind his work, which is also priced fairly. The jobs have ranged from swapping out a failing pressure relief valve on my water heater to relocating an electrical junction box to a tricky exterior repair: the wood beneath a 10-foot-wide second-floor window sill had rotted after the metal sill cap detached and left it exposed. He safely propped the window, cleared out the rotted material, replaced the wood, and reattached the sill cap. If you're looking for a reliable contractor who handles both small fixes and more involved repairs with the same level of care, Mo gets my full recommendation.

I have not moved forward with the repair yet, so I can't speak to the quality of their actual work…read more I also wish YELP offered a neutral rating for situations like this--something that reflected the customer experience without necessarily ranking the quality of the service. PROS: ServiceMax has been communicative, timely, and professionally responsive. Their $250 dispatch/diagnostic fee is comparable to other companies I contacted. They work on high-rise buildings with IEC coils and are willing to provide part numbers, which I appreciated. No complaints about the customer service experience. CONS: The repair pricing is expensive. The $250 diagnostic/dispatch fee does not transfer toward the repair. I was quoted $1,700 to replace a motor costing about $300, including delivery, with an estimated 1-1.5 hours of work. With the dispatch fee, the total would be nearly $1,950. When I questioned the difference, I was told the additional cost includes retrieving the part, traveling downtown, parking, and overhead. I understand that businesses have overhead and are entitled to set their own pricing. However, it puts the burden on the customer to compare prices. The challenge is that "shop around" can mean being without AC while waiting for other companies to diagnose the problem and provide estimates--especially difficult during hot weather. My impression is that larger franchise HVAC companies may fall within a similar general price range, but I would still recommend getting multiple estimates if possible. Ask for parts, labor, travel, and other fees to be clearly itemized so you can make meaningful comparisons. A few suggestions: 1. If you live in a managed building, send the quote to management/your HOA or board. They may have experience with similar repairs or recommend alternatives. 2. Research the actual cost of the parts and compare it with labor and other fees. 3. Ask about discounts, coupons, reduced travel fees, or whether the diagnostic fee can be applied toward the repair. 4. Depending on the repair, another licensed large appliance repair company may offer hourly labor rather than separate travel/part-retrieval charges. Remember Angi's list, Thumbtack, and TaskRabbit--where there are verified, independent contractors. Overall, I have had a positive experience with ServiceMax in terms of communication, responsiveness, and professionalism. I may still hire them. If your system requires a specialized company like ServiceMax and you cannot shop around, I have no reason not to recommend them based on my experience so far. However, because of the price and lack of discounts or credit toward the repair, I feel I need to explore other options first. If I move forward, I will update this review.

I'm only giving them two stars because they did manage to get my curtain rods up and to install a…read moretoilet. But here is my experience with this company. I requested that they come out to hang 5 curtain rods and to replace a toilet. I was very clear with them that the toilet needed to be hauled away for disposal. I had an appointment set for a Thursday at 8:30am. I confirmed that appointment again two days before they were due here. The night before, they told me they had another job to go to at 7am and said they would be here between 10-11am. They finally showed up at around 1:45-2pm. Because of the way the building is constructed, they had some trouble finding where to drill holes to hang the curtain rods. So in one of my rooms, I have holes in my walls that they drilled and were supposed to fix before they left. They did not. They also did not remove the toilet. So, I was stuck with a toilet sitting in my office. They were supposed to come back today, a week later, to remove it, fix the wall, and finish some other small projects. I emailed them over the weekend to confirm but didn't receive a response. They finally confirmed at 5:30am today that they would be here at 8:30. No one showed up. So I called. Goes straight to a messaging service. Left a message. Emailed them to let them know they have to be here by 8:45 so I can let them in and show them what needs to be done because I will be tied up after that. No response. Someone finally showed up at 9:30. But I had already emailed them a second time at 8:55am to say don't bother coming back. I will go to task rabbit to find someone reliable to do this work. Fortunately, in anticipation of this happening based on what happened last week, I had already gotten a junk hauler to get the toilet out of my office on Saturday.
