Dunning Electric is outstanding! I had an urgent situation and called numerous contractors who were either busy or charged up to $1000 just to come and assess the issue. I was thrilled to get Dunning Electric and spoke with Adam, who then connected me with John the owner. I called on Friday afternoon. He fit me in on Saturday morning came and within minutes identified the problem. I had literally no power for 1/3 of my condo for four days he is an expert, professional, and extremely personable. This company is a joke!!! Do not hire this company!! I had to deal with constant rescheduling despite the time frame I gave them. The last straw was when I was left a voice msg by Evan asking me to change our scheduled time. I never got the msg, as it turns out, they went ahead and rescheduled anyway. I make myself avail the original day, nobody shows, no apology and I am told by Evan that I should know the importance of checking my voice msg's. I contracted to have surface mounted wire mold installed on my bedroom wall. When I finally did get them to show up the electrician arrives with all Ivory materials. I explained to him this is residential, I need white. I was told not all the parts come in white, only some. In 1 minute, on my phone, I find all the parts the electrician is mentioning, in white. He said, "let me make a phone call." After his phone call, he is coached to say anything he can to get me to agree to have the work done, hoping that something sticks. First, I am told they can spray paint it. I told him that is ridiculous. I hired electricians not painters. Then I was told it would take up to 2 weeks to get material in white. I stopped at the local home improvement store 5 minutes from my location and saw the shelves stocked (overflowing) with everything that I needed (in white!). I drove to the office on Irving Park to speak with the owner and explain what a debacle my experience is. Believe me, I could write more. The owner isn't in, so I speak with Evan. Without getting into long details, I'll summarize and let you know this guy has NO customer service skills. This is what you are gong to deal with if you have an issue or issues as I did. I sent an e-mail to the owner explaining in more detail what my experience was. No response. Lastly, I offer you this insight in regards to the person who responds to these reviews on yelp, Adam W., who identifies himself as "business owner." It is implied that he is the business owner of Dunning, he is not! Maybe he owns a pastry business or a gas station but not Dunning Electric. The owner of Dunning Electric is not named Adam nor does he look like the picture that Adam has attached to his name. I hired Dunning Electric a few months ago to help fix an issue with electricity to our garage. We had a handy man set up a wire from the house to the garage but it was a viable long-term option. I called multiple electical companies, however they were the most responsive and attentive to our needs. They showed up on time and were able to diagnosis and fix the issues in a timely manner. Can you say RIPOFF?!!! I called Dunning for a partial power outage in a section of my condo last month. Their electrician came out and after looking at my fuse box and doing some power outlet tests narrowed it down to a short in the lamp in my bedroom. He did a short test of some of my outlets and then screwed in a spare fuse I had and the power came back on. I was ready to pay that day but the paperwork the electrician had on hand that day did not show a total, he told me they prefer to send an invoice via email. So today I get an email from Dunning with an invoice copy asking when I am going to pay for the work. This was the first I ever heard from them since the guy was at my condo. The invoice was charging $45.00 for a service visit and $125.00 for labor. Are you kidding me Dunning, what labor? He was there all of 10 minutes and didn't really do anything. If this business was an honest operation and wanted repeat customers they would just charge me the service fee of $45.00, that would be fair. But $170.00? It's not like there was any rewiring done here. If you are thinking of using this company, forget about it and keep looking. This business is one of two electric services companies recommended by my condo office and I'll be lodging a complaint with them as well. Dunning's service was absolutely first rate, from scheduling through to the installation of my new electrical panel. The team worked with me through a couple of reschedules on my part, and then showed up right on time for the actual service date. They got right to work after answering my questions and we're done in a fraction of the time I had expected it to take. They even did a couple of extra touches for me without adding to the charges. I had a really bad experience with Dunning. Repeated calls to try to get appt scheduled. Waited weeks for callbacks. Had to pay 1/2 upfront to get on their schedule, and then the electrician was not prepared with correct equipment and supplies to do all of the work. When I complained there was not follow up or resolution. Overall an unpleasant and aggravating experience. read more

Left my electrical area a mess, didn't make it clear they don't accept credit cards, argued "I left my apartment a mess" and that's how the electrician found it, found a pile of dirt on my kitchen floor which they also denied, etc. Won't use again. read more

I can't say enough good things about this company. I've used them for years, and they are great. Today, Kelly came to put in new outlets and remove very old wall plates in preparation for painters coming. It was a hard job because the plates had been painted over numerous times, and the screws were stripped. He was careful and thorough and answered all my questions. He also switched everything over to the new power strips I had bought Additionally, John in the main office worked with my building to make certain everything went smoothly to follow all the condo rules. Not only did the electrician they sent, know nothing about my track lights, they never called back to give an estimate for a new transformer, that supposedly I needed. Maybe I should give 2 stars, without knowing it, he fixed the problem taking it apart and putting it back together. The track lighting just needed to be tightened.
