We've always had to wait at this very popular restaurant when it was Betty's but when we came recently on a weekday morning at 10:15 we waited for an hour while we watched 5 table tops sit open. The service since it was Betty's has become pretty poor. Kind of a shame really. read more

I was so sad when Bette's closed and then along came the Oceanview Diner. The staff is so nice and spent time talking with my children. The dog can come along and sit outside! It is the food though that I crave! The French toast is made with challah!!!! It doesn't get better than that! read more

I love this place. The location is lovely, and the decor is super old school art deco diner. The food is fantastic, however they really use a lot of grease or oil when cooking the eggs and you can see a thick layer of oil on the plate when you are served. That is the only reason I didn't give it 5 stars. very friendly fast service too! read more

Monday noon and nearly an hour wait. Good coffee. Very mediocre pancakes. And I couldn't finish them because of the miniscule amount of maple syrup supplied. How long is appropriate to just turn around and leave when you are the only person in "To Go," no one's at the counter, Person #1 comes flying by in a mask and brusquely tells you "we'll be with you in a minute" as she then devotes herself to making some coffee drink with her back to you, Person #2 comes from the back to stock the case, never looks up, never says hello, never asks what I want, Person #3 then comes from the back, stands at the register right in front of me where I have now been waiting for two minutes, has an extended dialogue with Person #1 about some kind of accounting issues she's involved in, likewise never looking up, never making eye contact, relating intensively with her cash register as the two of them have a whole conversation RIGHT in front of you, BOTH of them now ignoring you (which is an achievement given you're only person in the place and you've been now standing front of them for three minutes)? Is three minutes and being ignored by three people long enough? Or should you wait five minutes and be ignored with a few more people who are clearly busy with other more important things? Asking for a friend who has lived around the corner here for 37 years, knew Bette and Manfred when this was the only place down here on Fourth Street, had many warm and wonderful long chats here with them and all the friendly, fun people who have worked here over the decades and today just wanted a biscotto. He's sad, sorry they were too busy to be hospitable and even sorrier to see from the one- and two-star reviews here that it wasn't just him. But maybe he was wrong. Terrible service. They literally kicked us out of our table after only being seated for 45 minutes. They said we'd been there for two hours which was not accurate. The food was cold when it arrived at our table. I had to ask several times for a coffee refill and then they didn't bring extra milk. I tried to explain my feelings to the staff but they were not receptive to constructive feedback. I was extremely dissatisfied. This was the first time I'd been back to Oceanview since the change in ownership and I was shocked by how badly the restaurant was being run. If you want to have a relaxing meal that is warm when it arrives find someplace else. There so many better options nearby. read more

The man who owns a horse had a great vibe when he sat us down off of the waitlist. Loved talking to him. Our server also had a great energetic demeanor showing she enjoys her job. The seasonal veggie omelette was delicious! The peach soufflé was subpar and quite disappointing. It was just fluffed up dough with no flavor. The syrup we put on top added a bit of sweetness, but it was not worth the 40 min wait. Years ago, I am told this used to be worth the wait, but now it disappointed the prior-lovers of this soufflé. i would recommend this place if you like bland food and mediocre service (and that's being nice.) They had to replace my fork and cup cause it was dirty. the coffee is folgers or something and served luke warm. The bagel i ordered for my daughter was STALE! No matter how much you toast a bagel, it should not be hard as a rock. I wonder how this place is busy all the time. In my experience, hash browns are generally bad and exist only so your omelette looks less lonely on the plate. At Oceanview, they are delicious. I would order them as a side dish. Caramelized onions, a combination of crispy and soft saute potatoes -- yum. Great soft scrambled eggs and baguette toast, too. Very friendly staff; I appreciate that the server came around frequently to top up my coffee cup on a foggy June afternoon! I'm so glad Oceanview is continuing the Bette's tradition. read more

The Diner is back!! I would even go as far as to say, better than ever. The staff is friendly and efficient. Much more so that it used to be. You can feel the good vibes in the air! It's busy and the space is tight. But that's what so many of us have been enjoying for so many years. It's a reel diner! The food is crazy good. It's so hard to find good corn beef hash. The plate I had this morning was better than ever. Big prices of corn beef and perfectly cook poached eggs. Just like mom would make. That's if mom would make it, mine doesn't, She comes here to get her has fix. The portions are generous, the breads and baked goods make it a meal. It's almost always busy so be prepared to wait but it is so worth it. You leave will leave with a full stomach and a smile on your face. I am all ready looking forward to my next visit. Terrible service, Carlos was seating people and when told that I needed special accommodation due to my disability to be seated in a booth, he informed me that they had a booth policy, and that I would not be able to sit in a booth, because I was only a party of two. Waiter. Upon attempting to speak to his supervisor he interrupted our conversation several times, and then told me to leave the restaurant his supervisor that stood next to him, embraced him, and then waited for me to leave this type of discrimination is it illegal and against the Americans with disabilities act is a violation of my civil rights and I look forward to the opportunity to resolve. The service was great, our server knew the menu, and the food arrived fast and hot. The chicken and waffles was the worst combination of chicken and waffles I had ever tried. The fried chicken breading had no flavor and was doughy in several locations around the chicken. The chicken was bland and dry. It seemed the breading was an afterthought. The waffle was thin and almost appeared to be store bought. The presentation was two pieces of chicken a thin waffle and a wrapped packet of butter with high fructose syrup not maple syrup. I went to Oceanview diner with high hopes for a delicious brunch. I was greeted with friendly service staff for the most part. I sought down and ordered my food. When the food arrived I was very disappointed. The eggs were extremely undercooked, the over easy eggs of my friends were extremely runny and there was a significant amount of uncooked whites. The potatoes were burnt and the onions in our homestyle potatoes outnumbered the actual potato. The only redeeming quality of this restaurant was there delicious scone and coffee which I ate and left the rest of my food. While eating my friend found a beard hair in his scone and when he told the waitress about it she did not seem concerned and seemed surprised that we had complained.
