Another work trip, another meal alone. But this one may have been my favorite. At first, I was a little hesitant because it appeared as though this restaurant was in some kind of abandoned mall and might have been closed but when I got to the door, it was very much alive. I was seated promptly in a comfortable booth behind a gorgeous aquarium. Service was impeccable. I was able to order immediately and my food came out quickly. I got the sushi deluxe and I went with the spicy girl roll. Everything was delectable and super filling. The presentation was beautiful as well. All of the prices are tremendously reasonable. I have eaten here a few times and I still haven't been able to scratch the surface of all the delicious options. Every dish has been a delight. Their eel and scallop sashimi is wonderful. I love that they cut their sashimi in larger chunks. The mango shrimp is great comfort food and there mango salad is super fresh. I haven't had a chance to try any of their S/P items as they have never been available during the times i dined. I also wish they had a buffet option. This has been a constant date night in Winona for my partner and I. They still only do takeout but my ocean sushi has my heart. For both my partner and I we're able to fill both of us up AND add a nice tip for under $30. I'm always left satisfied and happy and they make the meals quickly too. Usually they'll give us a free water bottle when we sit out at the tables. Some see 'take out only' as a negative but I have ended up finding some great picnic spots all over winona solely because of ocean sushi date night. I'd give Ocean Sushi 5 stars but I've been to Nobu on a corporate expense account and so we'll, there's that. Ocean Sushi is very competent food, done with high standards and consistent quality. All through the pandemic and labor shortages the owner/ operator husband and wife team have continued to maintain the quality. We were there recently on a very busy night. I prepared myself for a disappointing meal and slow service but I couldn't have been more wrong. We had the very generous sushi deluxe platter, pad thai and tempura shrimp. Came here with my friend after a hockey game. It was the only place she knew in town, and it is connected to a mall. Not a very good start. Ordered a few rolls, miso soup, and seaweed salad. The rolls were average at best. Even for the somewhat cheaper price. The miso soup was pretty good. I would be pretty impressed if they could ruin their miso soup. The seaweed salad was awful. It tasted like plastic and chemicals. When I asked the waitress to take it back and take it off the bill, she grabbed the manager who then proceeded to question wether or not I had ever even tried seaweed salad before. The seaweed salad was mediocre but filling. I added soy sauce because I found it tasteless. Not that important either, but they only have low sodium soy sauce. Not that I care because I bought it at home, but others might care. The sushi was all very good except for the spiderman roll which had a chef's special sauce that looked like semen (sorry for the analogy...I know it's inappropriate but I don't know what else to compare it to) maybe it That's what makes me dislike it. The rolls were really delicious but tasted weird...I could have skipped them. Other than that it's not bad. Fried rice is delicious and simple. It has peas in it, so pea haters know that fact. Grabbed Ocean Sushi to go one night while staying in Winona. Ordered about $90 worth of food, and we got SO MUCH FOOD. Everything was amazing. Honestly some of the best sushi in MN that I have had is outside of the Twin Cities and this is one of them. We ordered gyoza, rock N shrimp, boston hand roll, cali hand roll, naruto roll, pink lady roll and curry seafood. Everything was fresh and all the rolls were quite large and filled to the brim. The weirdest roll we had was for sure the naruto roll, my boyfriend was not a fan, mainly cause it was drenched in a sauce he was not a fan of, but this was a roll with your choice of protein, you have the option of tuna, salmon, crab meat or white tuna, and then it was wrapped in a cucumber sheet along with avocado, tobiko and scallion, it was quite the mouthful, but very unique, worth giving it the shot if you dont mind a lot of sauce and if you dont mind cucumber, cause that sheet was pretty hefty. The curry seafood included shrimp, scallop and salmon, we did indicate a spice level for the curry when ordering online, however i do not think they are able to adjust the spice or they might have missed it since it wasnt very spicy, but it was very flavorful and would for sure order it again. The restaurant is a little difficult to find depending on where you are coming from, it is located at the back of the strip mall and if you go around from the right hand side you need to go all the way to the left basically to see it. read more

Tried a few rolls and the spicy pad Thai. I liked the pad Thai, but wasn't the biggest fan of the rolls we tried. The ocean roll appears to be a popular roll, but we were not impressed with the quality of fish within. The banana roll we tried I didn't mind. The Naruto roll wasn't very impressive to me either because it was easy to fall apart, flavors weren't there, and I wasn't a fan of the sauce the roll was immersed in. However, if they are able to continue with the fresh ingredients and quality of the food, then Ocean Sushi Japanese and Thai Food will be a welcomed addition to the few restaurants in Winona. We went for lunch, ordered family style, and shared Gyoza, California Roll, Salmon & Avocado Roll, Spicy Shrimp Roll, Thai Pineapple Fried Rice, and Shrimp Udon. The Sushi was good and priced fairly at about $3 a roll. It wasn't amazing, but the rice was cooked perfectly and the ingredients were fresh. Both dishes were served with well portioned shrimp, probably 16/20 or larger. The Shrimp Udon was the best dish and had just a hint of heat with some nice spices. Next time, we'll ask the waiter if some more heat/spiciness could be added to the dish, which would make it an impressive meal and something that we'd highly recommend. read more

Winona isn't known for ethnic food, but this one is a solid choice. Came here on Family Weekend. We had miso soup, California roll, Spider Roll, Veggie Tempura, and Thai Pineapple Fried Rice. Nice variety, good presentation. Quality was on par with bigger cities, service was good too. I just hate that pinkish "yum yum" sauce that is all the rage in Japanese restaurants these days, why lord why, but they will leave it off if requested. read more

We also went 45 min before closing and when we were done eating, 10 min before closing, they were basically pushing us out if the door. Super rude. I was in town with my daughter checking out the university, planned in having dinner here and ended up having lunch the next day as well. The restaurant was takeout only for safety due to COVID-19, and their pickup system was very well thought out. We got the vegetarian sushi: avocado cucumber, sweet potato roll (seriously!! I love this place! While service can be slow with a wait for food I always go back. The gyoza are always fresh and tasty and the chicken curry is delicious! A giant bowl of food with fragrant rice is always enough for leftovers. The sushi is also excellent with a tight roll and creativity. I was by myself one night and sat at the counter to watch them roll and was treated to a chef creation that was not on the menu at no charge he made just for me. That was nice! read more

This dining experience was truly a delight for me. I am a seafood FANATIC!!! I love all things fishy! I was very impressed with the sashimi I ordered here. For sashimi, I believe that it was reasonably priced. The textures and flavors of the fish were exquisite! My meal also came with miso soup and a small salad, both of which were great. One of the people I came with got curry, which was also very good. The salmon and shrimp were cooked perfectly! One person in our party ordered the steak off of the kids menu. Not only was it big enough for an adult, but it tasted and was presented like a meal any adult would enjoy. (A child ordered this by the way, and she loved it!)
