My first experience with sushi and Miya came upon by a dare. An experience that has Miya Japanese Bistro one of my favorite places in town. I recommend the onion soup!

My boyfriend and I are staying in town on vacation and we had to stop into Miya for lunch. SUCH delicious food and pleasant ambiance. The service was excellent and very prompt! We ordered the Mexican roll, pork katsu, miso soup, and Nigori sake. So delicious and inexpensive for the quality. Thank you so much!

Hard to find good Sushi in this area. Not a ton of options, but the cooked dish (deep fried, crunchy, etc.) is pretty good. The sauce is complimentary. The atmosphere is small town, which was awesome! The owners toddler ran around greeting patrons and helping. Not for a super romantic date in my opinion, but a fun loving date would be a good start here. Sushi is always a fun experience. I got the calamari (I don't recommend but I'm a calamari snob), the spicy salmon roll, the spicy tuna roll, and yellowtail sushi. The last three were good.

Lovely family owned restaurant. The owner runs the whole front of the house so was very busy. Presentation of food excellent. quality excellent. Friendly owner who knew many of her customers names. Highly recommend.

They seem to be a little short staffed right now, but the service is still wonderful! The sushi is amazing and is presented beautifully! We are so happy that our daughter will have an excellent sushi restaurant to eat at as she attends college here at Winona State.

This place is sooooooo good! Everything we ordered was super super fresh and hot. The service is amazing. The owners are super sweet and very attentive. We can't wait to visit again. I hope they continue to get a lot of community support. They deserve it!

My favorite sushi spot in Winona. Bit spendy but I always leave very satisfied. Family owned, and the presentation is always superb!

She was an absolute gem--friendly, attentive, and genuinely interested in getting to know our family dynamic. Before she left, she was saying, "pass this to mommy, this is grandma's, etc." SO cute! She offered great recommendations, and put some minds at ease for first time sushi goers, which made it all the more fun. I will note that we had some folks doing AYCE, and others ordered Ala carte, and this made no difference to our waitress, or Kumo! The Ala carte portion sizes were huge! The food? Hot, fresh, and delivered with lightning speed. Like seriously, I thought they had secret microphones under the table. We couldn't believe how quickly everything arrived--no waiting around, just one delicious dish after another. And let me tell you, we left so miserably full that we could barely waddle out the door, but it was worth every bite. If you're looking for excellent service, delicious food, and a great vibe, Kumo Sushi is great - go!

I typically get Salmon, Eel, and California Temaki and all of those are genuinely the best you can get in town. They dont even judge me for sometimes getting like 3-4 bowls of miso soup. Its great. Even if im not in the mood for sushi all of their appetizers are delicious and their fried rice is one of the best in town as well. The entire staff are extremely friendly and helpful. The very few times I've ever had something come out incorrect all I had to do was politely point it out and they swiftly fixed the problem, or remade it correctly. They are very fast and super attentive. The restraint itself is very clean and comfortable.

This place does have really good food - no question there. Everything I've had (across teriyaki,…read moretempura, sushi, rolls, handrolls, other apps, soup) has been great. Couple of odd things, one of them keeping me from being there eating dinner right now because I'd -really- like some sushi and they're right down the street: 1. the place has three websites. I'm not referring to the fact there's a North and a South location, or referring to Yelp or anything - just... three different websites. It's strange. 2. They charge a 33% uplift for all-you-can-eat dinner, at near-zero value-add. I know this because I went in, had the dinner, and found out at bill time it was uplifted over lunch... simply by virtue of being dinner. I understand that "dinner", time-wise, tends to mean different portion sizes in other contexts, different staffing levels, it's where you make your money unless you are a bar, etc. And in this case they broaden the menu slightly, adding sashimi as an option. I'm not a chef but I'm thinking that takes less labor to produce than about anything else. On the flip side of that, I'm sure sashimi, if someone was determined, is the fastest avenue for the restaurant to burn through material cost... if someone came in for three hours eating sashimi 5 pieces at a time and got away with it. That's the risk of running any all-you-can-eat offering - sometimes the bull, sometimes the horns. The food, cleanliness, staff etc is, without question, great. I'll definitely eat lunch there in the future.
