We love the staff, the atmosphere and of course the Menu. The crab cocktail. Is a favorite of ours. And we have had so many of the menu items it is difficult to choose a favorite. Ocean Prime is on the top of my list for celebrating special occasions or for a fancy date night. Wait staff is always attentive and friendly. The Chilean Sea bass is delcious and always cooked perfectly. So moist with a creamy champagne truffle sauce that melts in your mouth. This is my favorite here and order everytime since I first tried it. The Berries and Bubbles cocktail is their signature drink and is a must. Such a fun cocktail that bubbles like witches brew over dry ice. The Black Orchid cocktail is awesome too and not on their menu anymore but they will make it for you if you ask. :) On my last visit on New Year's Eve, my boyfriend was so happy that he could get achoives on his ceaser salad when he requested it. They even gave him the option of white or black anchoives. He opted for black and was so excitied when his salad came cover with those little fishes. I swear there were about 15 of them! On Sundays they have 1/2 off bottles of wine. Such a great deal! They also have a separate Gluten Free menu which I appreciate with a variety of options. We made a reservation on Open Table. We've dined here before and wanted to celebrate our anniversary here. We checked the website and Yelp reviews to see if there is a dress code. It's a nicer restaurant and our anniversary, so we ditched our work from home attire and wore something that required ironing. When we arrived, we saw a couple walking in wearing gym clothes. The woman was wearing a ball cap, tee shirt, tights, and Crocs. We were early for our reservation but they seated us anyway. Service was great from start to finish. The waiter brought out bread with whipped butter. We also ordered the calamari, lobster mashed potatoes, blackened snapper, and 10 ounce filet with lobster tail. The calamari was good but for the price, we felt the portion was a bit small. Crushed peanuts and/ or scallions would have been a nice garnish. The filet was cooked just as we wanted but could have used a little more seasoning. The fish was cooked perfectly. The mashed potatoes was good but not salty enough for our taste. I came here for Troy Restaurant Week with some coworkers and we all really enjoyed our meals! It did take a while (almost an hour and a half), but the food was great. I got the corn chowder for the first course, pecan crusted trout for the entree, and carrot cake for dessert. The chowder was rich and deep in flavor without being too heavy or salty. Since the food was taking a long time to come out, I was hoping they would bring out some bread, but I guess this place doesn't do that. When the entrees finally arrived, I was very pleased. The trout was mild in flavor and was crusted with a sweet and crunchy pecan topping. It provided just the right amount of sweetness. The green beans were a little undercooked for my liking, but still edible. Once the dessert arrived, I changed my mind about the bread - it was huge! The carrot cake had a pineapple sauce on the side that provided much needed acidity to cut through the sweetness/creaminess of the cake and cream cheese frosting. I do believe you get what you pay for, and with that, restaurant week is not the best time to visit a fine dining restaurant and expect the best of the best for the price point. Service, yes. Food quantity, quality and ambiance, no. Restaurant week attracts large crowds to popular establishments. Our friends made our date and reservations last month, for Sunday, early 5pm dinner, for 5 of us. OP was packed, however, we were quickly seated.... at a prep table... in the middle of the room.. directly at the mouth of the waiter's closet...with servers and guests shoving past us throughout our visit. Not good practice, OP. The table was fine for us, since I am 5'10" and hubs is taller, but friends were clearly uncomfortable, with the table hitting them at chest level. (prep tables are slightly taller) My friend enticed us to visit for their company and the promise of half off wine Sundays at OP. Turned out OP was not holding the special but would still honor it, since I asked. That was very nice. We traveled over and hour for a good dinner and wine with friends. I am very glad they honored it. (maybe friend should have thought to ask too) The waitress recommended an amazing bottle of Chardonnay: Jordan Russian River Valley for $62 (price was $31 with half off) We opted for the restaurant week menu. I had the sweet corn chowder, teriyaki salmon with sticky rice, and butter cake for dessert. The wine was a perfect pairing. The food was excellent, though small portions. Dinner for 2 at $40 each, plus wine was $117 plus tip. We left a bit hungry and frustrated from the stress of dodging constant traffic. One large woman, trying to situate herself into her seat, whacked me in the face with her purse and either didn't know or didn't care to acknowledge the offense. Whatever - I had good wine, but pretty ridiculous to be sat there in the first place. Parking is valet, or park farther out in the next lot. There is no way my hubs is letting a valet park his huge (new) F350 truck. You almost need a CDL for that beast. It's not downtown or in a small area; parking lot is private, plentiful and the door is close. Why for the valet? Ocean Prime is a nice place for a special occasion, business dinner and when quality and service matters over price. The food and wine is excellent. Valet is unnecessary but only $5 or park in the next lot. Make a reservation ahead of time and perhaps request a table along a wall or window to make sure you don't suffer our fate. I would visit again to check out the cool bar they have tucked away. It was dark and most popular on our early Sunday evening visit. read more

You might be wondering why the four stars instead of five. It's because the appetizer and soup were delicious and the main course was just good. French onion soup should be on your list of things to get. It was amazing. Our waitress suggested the tequila cocktail and that was also really good. I know the sushi is outrageously priced but if you're here you might as well order it. That could've been the best part of the meal in all honesty. My wife got the steak and while it was seasoned well, it was far too salty for me. I got the grouper and that was really good, it was sitting in some lobster, gnocchi and lemon jus. Very well done! The truffle mac & cheese for the price that we paid which was like approximate $20 was not worth it the portion was small and it was just simply no flavor of truffle whatsoever. The brussels sprouts were meh and not worth the price for it. They were mild and flavor and there really wasn't that much to the order. The fish was really good I would recommend the Seabass, and the flavoring of the potatoes and sauce was delicious. The service was decent but very slow, the pacing in between courses in the wine and the desserts could really be improved. I ordered the crème brûlée for dessert, but it was pretty much like any other crème brûlée. It's not anything more special there than anywhere else. We my BF and I were welcomed with warm bread and butter. There was a huge wine list and a variety of cocktails. I had the bubbles and berries cocktail. It was tart and tangy. Phenomenal! It's served with dry ice for a cool presentation. We started off with an appetizer- surf n turf. Scallops, short ribs and mashed potatoes. EXCELLENT AND TENDER We had French onion soup and lobster bisque. You can tell both were made from scratch. One of the best French onion soups I had. I had the Floridian Grouper with lobster, gnocchi and snap peas. The red sauce was a bit spicy and delicious. Homemade Gnocchi that melts in your mouth! My boyfriend had the 10oz filet. We ordered asparagus and corn(made with white wine and seasonings). The corn was unbelievable and a must try. Everything tasted fresh and delicious. To top it off, we shared a 10 layer carrot cake! These were good as well. It didn't come with too many things to add; lemon & cocktails sauce with horseradish on top. They oysters were fresh & delicious. We also had the deviled eggs. I brought a work friend from out of town to Ocean Prime and this by far was one of the best places I've been to in a long time for fine dining and service. I've been here a few times several years back and it was ok, but something changed. This was a far better experience in terms of service and quality of the food. It starts with the professionalism and friendliness of the staff- from the hostess to our server and assistant servers. Always anticipating our needs, we hardly had to ask for anything. EVERYONE on staff was pleasant; nice to see such consistency throughout. For dinner I started with the lobster bisque- a very nice presentation as they pour the cream based soup in front of you on very large pieces of lobster. The taste is as great as the presentation. For the main meal I ordered the ribeye steak, my colleague ordered the small filet, both with the truffle butter. Our steaks were prepared perfectly as we requested. Steaks were flavorful and juicy without over seasoning. Asparagus and Parm Fries were excellent as well. Given the event that unfolded yesterday with a former President's attempted assassination, we kindly asked our server if she could put the news on, as this was breaking world news. the manager refused to do so. Unacceptable. Although this may be her right, I decided to call afterwards and make a complaint. Managers name was Gabrielle. She was screaming at me over the phone, repeatedly calling me a liar and hung up the phone on me. I called back and she continued calling me a liar and threatened to call the police on me for harassment. I have filed a complaint against her with corporate, as nobody should be working in the service industry treating customers that way. This past weekend we celebrated my father's 70th birthday with a private party for 40+ people at Ocean Prime Troy. The private event director Sue was so amazingly patient and responsive to the myriad of questions posed by myself and my mother. She deserves 5 gold stars simply for that! On the day of the event we were greeted by Josh who was our lead attendant for the event and he was spectacular. He talked us thru the timeline and was more than willing to build the timing of the food around the program we created for the event. He remained in contact with me throughout the event to ensure things were pacing as we liked. The waitstaff moved so very quickly thru the courses while balancing the multiple requests from guests for beverages from the bar and such. It was an event to remember and my father was so pleased. This was my first time at Ocean Prime and I HIGHLY RECOMMEND it to those who have yet to visit. All of our guests spoke highly of their experience. Ocean Prime doesn't deserve the name prime, there was nothing prime about the service or food. I have been to 6 other Ocean Prime locations and the experience and food was excellent. There was 5 people in our party, occasion was birthdays. We ordered 3 appetizers for the table, steak tartare, king crab legs, and deviled eggs with caviar. Dinner is is where service started to slide 8oz filet ordered medium rare, showed up more on the medium well side, had to ask for the lobster tail also which showed up cold and the size of a shrimp. My drink never showed up and had to ask 3 times for it, sides never showed up as ordered. Dessert time they brought 1 dessert had to ask for the other dessert. I would highly suggest avoiding the Detroit/Troy location at all costs service is subpar. Troy does not meet the Ocean Prime standard. I would suggest trying one of the other names 2 miles down the road. read more

I've been here a few times now. I was most recently here on Friday night. We had reservations but wanted a table at the bar because they had live music. The guy playing was phenomenal! We sat at the piano where he was playing while we had a cocktail and waited for a table. The manager was super attentive and kept watching for a table in the bar to open for us (we wanted a booth, and we knew it would be a little longer of a wait, but we didn't care). The manager kept checking in with us to give us an update and to let us know he hadn't forgotten about us (which was really nice). But we definitely didn't mind waiting because the entertainment was great and the ambiance in the bar area is a really cool and 'happening'. Our waitress was great and friendly and lighthearted. She gave us just enough attention and was super attentive. We ordered the scallops and snapper and she heard us say that we were going to share. She asked if we wanted the chef to split it for us, so we wouldn't have to do it at the table. Which was perfect! The meals were SO GOOD! I ate everything on my plate and then some more of my boyfriend's. We got the chocolate cake for dessert and that was delicious! We also got complimentary truffle butter popcorn while we were waiting for our meals (i believe they only do this in the bar area). And they kept bringing us refills!
