Last Saturday, September 13, I had lunch at Ocean restaurant in Bayville Long Island. The manager, James Muniz, was very accommodating and friendly when my friend and I walked in. We said we wanted to sit outdoors and it was a perfect day to look onto the water from a beautiful balcony! Ashley, our server, could not have been friendlier and more accommodating! I was uncertain if I would like the cilantro that was with the salmon order and so it was in a separate plate. And, I ended up enjoying the combination of the cilantro mix with orzo. It as delicious! The food and the ambiance here was amazing. We came here for father's day brunch and everyone enjoyed it. We sat outside and it was so nice to have a view of the beach. I got the lobster Benedict, which was a special. It was amazing!! I also got the watermelon martini which was very good. My one complaint is that the service could have been better. I came with my elderly grandparents, parents, and sister. The waitress stood at the opposite end of the table as my grandparents so they could not hear her when she was talking. There was also a 70 dollar "OpenTable charge" on the bill, which seemed kind of odd and no explanation was offered for it. I wanted to write this review while it's fresh in my mind.... which is something I can't say about the bread. I was uncertain about tonight's selection given the mixed reviews. But I noticed too many 5 star reviews came from people with 1-10 reviews but more experienced users on Yelp tended to rate it lower. They were right. Yes the view is lovely. The food is a major letdown. Sent back the New England Clam Chowder. It was watery. Even the waitress admitted it looked bad. A white cream vs white water is easy to distinguish. How did that pass review by the chef? Was also offended that, after sending the soup back, they still put it on my bill. Took 3 requests to get bread. It tasted like packaged rolls tossed in an oven to crisp them up a little. But they still tasted stale. The summer salad features watermelon and feta. Barely a few crumbs of feta and not much seasoning. The calamari also needed seasoning. The martini was well balanced but was served with too much ice so the drink got watery right away. Entrees were fish and a burger. Neither was tasty. Fries served were from a bag. What a let down. Won't be back. read more

My good friend was visiting from out of town so I always love to take her to a great place for dinner, last year we did prime and loved it . I was researching yelp of course and had to choose between a few places, so incredibly happy I chose ocean because everything was top notch . Had a 8:45 pm reservation, we waited outside for about 10 mins before they called us to get our table. They sat us upstairs with an ocean view , breathtaking views of the Long Island sound , we ordered a bottle of rosè and looked at the menu . We decided on sharing the dynamite shrimp and calamari appetizers ,both very good . For entrees I ordered the chefs special which was salmon with wild rice and my friend ordered the lobster with crabmeat , my daughter ordered the burger . All the food was really good, service was really great , attentive but not overbearing . I rarely write reviews for restaurants, but I must write one today. The scenery at the restaurant is beautiful, and we took many lovely photos. Be sure to choose a seat outside. The hostess had no smile and was even a bit mean. We arrived 30 minutes early, and she made us wait outside, even though there were plenty of empty seats inside the restaurant. The chairs and tables were quite basic, with no tablecloths. The service was very slow, even though there were only a few tables occupied at lunch today. The charges were unreasonable. They charged us a $32 service fee for the cake we brought ourselves. We only found out when we were paying the bill. We didn't ask the server to cut the cake. read more

We arrived quite a bit early for our reservation so we went upstairs to sit at the bar but the hostess seated us right away next to the edge with a gorgeous view. There was some steel drum music playing. Between the music and the palm trees, we felt like we were on a Caribbean island! It never felt over crowded or chaotic, nor did we ever feel rushed. Jamie, our waitress was wonderfully attentive and the food was very good. The crab cake app was outstanding as was the halibut special and chicken dish. You can guess why it's less than 3.5 stars for $$$ restaurant. Takes forever get seated when the restaurant is half empty with the hostess just standing at the front desk. Takes forever to flag down a server just to ask for water. They need to at least learn how to greet guests. Yes, the view is wonderful, but at what costs? We went for a family dinner on a Saturday late afternoon and the vibe here was absolutely amazing. A beautiful spot to go for any type of occasion! Went on a Friday night after happy hour for sushi and drinks and it was great! Sushi bar is first come first serve which I didn't realize when I booked the reservation but when we were seated inside I saw a high top was open and the waiter happily moved us so we could sit outside and watch the sunset while we eat. Visited Ocean restaurant and club. The view in the pictures is much better than in reality. Most likely, it's more of an event space; the restaurant itself seems secondary. But the main thing, since we came to have dinner, is the food and service. It was Friday, not very late, 6:30 PM. The dining room was practically empty. We were seated at a table for two, so there was a passage behind us and people kept brushing past me. When we asked to change seats, they refused. I had to just move the table myself. There are two menus in the restaurant: sushi and diner. There's no wine menu; all the alcohol is listed on the back of the diner menu. The wine list is poor and absolutely terrible. We chose the diner menu. We ordered Bread Service, Oysters, New England Clam Chowder, Crab Cake ( won't mention the main dishes as they are not relevant). We also ordered Riesling. Within maximum 5 minutes, they brought the "Bread Service"--4 rolls clearly from a nearby supermarket, the cheaper kind. Honestly, they seemed microwaved, and since it's a service, they served butter too. The butter was also cheaper, with poorly chopped parsley mixed in. About two minutes later, they brought the oysters, soup, and crab cake. They tried to fit everything on a very small table where there was already water, wine, bread on the bread plate. Since it didn't fit, the waiter's assistants solved the problem easily: they transferred the remaining 2 rolls onto my wife's bread plate and put the butter there as well. They moved oysters from ice to my bread plate and arranged the rest as best they could. I tried to call the Maitre d', but no one knew what that was. I asked for the manager--they understood and pointed to a man at the end of the room (not far), very busy with his mobile phone. I wanted to call him, but the phone was more important. My wife was calmer and said, let's just eat because we're hungry. Then came the food. I won't discuss the oysters, although I could. The soup--there was a decent portion of some pinkish liquid in the bowl, no trace of clams, potatoes, or anything else. It was a liquid cream soup. The taste in the bowl was like half Long Island salt supplies and the taste of undercooked flour (apparently I think they trying to make Roux). Also, the bowl was blazing hot, but the soup was barely warm. So again, microwave. I spit out the first spoonful immediately. My wife had the crab cake. She's not as picky as I am and eats saltier food. After the first bite, she was clearly surprised. The crab pie contained the second half of Long Island's salt. I tried a piece--it was solid salt and bread, no crab flavor at all and any visible crab parts in. The wine had a strong yeast taste and was very sweet. Yes, it was Riesling, but from the category sold in stores for $7-$10 After such a start, I got up and called the manager. I calmly explained everything to him and asked to cancel the main dishes. He asked us to wait, went away, and returned, saying he apologized, but the soup and crab pies were new today (although I saw them on the menu a month ago) and that he canceled the main course. When asked about the wine, he had no idea that Rieslings range from Extra Dry to Cabinet (not to mention Ice Wine). In general, my rating on a five-point scale would be minus five. P.S. There was a very large party downstairs, maybe that's why the kitchen wasn't focused on the restaurant. read more

Taste was yummy but nothing spectacular, loved the ambiance and views from the outdoor patio. It was me and the wifey and kids and nanny. Enjoy a NY Strip Steak, Grilled Chicken, Sea Food Endeavor that carries Clams,Shrimp,Oysters, and Lobster. Valet and Waiter service was super great, nice and attentive. We were able to leave the car with valet and walk over about 3 driveways and end up at a beach with a swing set for the kids to enjoy; I thought that was really neat. No extra charge, you just don't take your car and walk 5min to get the the playground. We had ice cream and a type of cheese cake that was very delicious at the restaurant almost forgot to mention that. $400-460 spent in one afternoon. read more

I ordered the yellow sushi as an appetizer and salmon as a main. The sushi was fresh and tasty. The sushi did not take long to come and our waitress was super nice. She came over with soy sauce before I could ask. The salmon was delicious, I'm upset I didn't get a picture but I was so hungry I forgot about pictures so my apologies. It was super good and I recommend you get the salmon. This place isn't open year round so try your best to go at least one or two times in the year if you can. I recommend this for anniversary, birthday, marriage proposal just overall something super special. I don't recommend for big groups but if you have a party of 6 people you should be fine. read more
