We did not regard him as kind or user-friendly, and so we decided to take our $80,000 installation somewhere else- Oh, and by the way, immediately after terminating any idea of a business relationship with this man and company, curiously enough - we started getting many spam calls. I was referred to OC Solar from a friend. The sales department was very friendly although some of their marketing material and benefits were really odd/gimmicky "top rated on social media". I started the proposal process in Nov '22 and the install finished in April '23. Some of the delay was because of the holidays and new year but the initial calls with sales had me sure this wouldn't go beyond January. The Wheelhouse credit union they sent me for a loan felt really weird and a little bit shady. It was who they financed through and I started getting letters from my new account and a membership to San Diego car museum because that's was required to have a Wheelhouse account. The credit union has been OK but fairly unresponsive to support. I needed a replacement check and have called multiple times and even though I was told I'd get it ASAP it took weeks. The plans they drew up for the city approval were wrong and miss labeled. They sent them to me for review and I told them they were missing components to the system. They said they would fix them and forward them to the city, but I didn't get to verify them before they were sent. I asked about how the tax rebates work and usually got vague unspecific answers about amounts and timelines. It wasn't until the end of the installation that I found out I'm responsible for all of the rebate paperwork and tracking even though they included all of the projected rebates in the proposal and totals. If you forget to do this you would be paying a lot more money. The solar panels (19) took a day to install, the new breaker panel took a day to install (no power), the rest of the controller equipment and batteries took 2 days to install and they were missing a part they didn't plan for (a zwave repeater). They told me it would come next week and they'd finish the job. 3 weeks passed before the part came and we were finally able to get cut over to the solar system. Some of the contractors they used were more unprofessional than I would have expected. They played loud music with lyrics I didn't want my kids (or my neighbors kids) to hear. Replacing the breaker panel was more destructive than anticipated and contractors that came to put trim and paint after the inspection complained that they didn't do a very good job removing the old panel (cut unnecessarily large holes). The work all seems well done and there's nothing that needs to be fixed. After using it for a few weeks I can say I think the system is a bit oversized (and probably overpriced) for what I actually needed based on their calculations. I'm consuming 2-3x what I'm producing and even cloudy/raining days produce more than I consume. Maybe an excuse to finally buy an electric car. My neighborhood had a power outage for 16 hours the week after the system went live and I didn't even notice. Batteries and panels worked great! read more

I don't typically write reviews but thought this one warranted it because of the scale of the project as well as the overall experience. I originally learned about OC solar while browsing the solar subreddit and speaking to several people on a thread. There were a ton of solar providers out there and I did the exercise of comparing equipment (panels, inverters), price per watt, and expediency and ultimately decided to roll the dice with OC Solar based on the feedback from subreddit and Yelp. FWIW, OC Solar has a vey competitive price per watt. The process began with talking to the sales rep who was not pushy (huge +) and very easy to reach. I got 25x 410w Panasonic Panels with Enphase IQ8+. After signing the contract, there were a few transitions between teams but nobody dropped the ball. I had read many horror stories about how you, the customer, had to constantly ask the right questions or follow up with the Solar company but that was not the case here. My entire project took about 3 months from sign to finish which I believe was on the fast side. They helped me navigate through the HOA process, prepared all the paperwork required, handled all interactions with Socal Edison, sped up my PTO process, and were extremely processional. read more

OC Solar was so easy to work with. They made the whole process seamless. We received multiple quotes from solar companies and they were competitive in their pricing and the customer service was excellent. They were well educated in solar and the process of working with the utility company, the city permitting process, installing the panels and battery, and helping us get Edison to do their job so our solar would work. OC Solar handled everything and communicated each step of the process and kept us well informed on what to expect. On the day of install, Gio and his team came out and worked quickly and installed 23 panels and the battery in one day. Gio asked if we had any touch up paint so he could paint the conduit and make it match the house. It all looks professionally done. They waited patiently for me to get home so they could show me how to set up and navigate the Tesla app. Customer Service followed up with me on multiple occasions to make sure our settings were correct in the app to maximize our usage and pay out from our utility company. They encouraged me to follow up with the utility company to get them to come out and do their part, which I did and I feel like that helped to move the process along better with the utility company. Eventually, the utility company did come out and install the back up switch. About two weeks later they gave us permission to operate and now everything is working perfectly. My best advice with the utility company is to follow up with them to make sure they have you in the que. OC Solar did a great job and we are very happy with the outcome. We have already had two big rain storms and our roof is totally fine after they installed the panels on them. read more

The service and responsiveness was great in the beginning. They took the time to answer our questions, and the installation team did a great job. However, there were some flaws in the experience. First of all, there was a big mix-up on installation day which only I had spotted. They were about to install the wrong color panel, until I noticed it and stopped them. I wanted all black and that was not what the crew unloaded from the truck. I did my research on the products used such as the panels and the inverter, and I do think the brands they use are the most efficient and durable ones in the market. After getting quotes from several companies, OC Solar came in at the lower side, which was of course, attractive to us at the time. But now after a few years of using solar, I realize now that we were undersized despite giving them all the information and projections of our usage. I feel like they are conservative in their sizing, which is good of course, but not realistic to usage. Although we are saving money on our electric bill, the consumption is not enough to cover our annual usage. I prefer to break even, even if it meant paying a bigger price upfront for more panels. That's the whole purpose of supplying them your electric bill usage. And when I contacted them to help me understand my charges and to come up with a recommendation (maybe install more panels? adjust our usage? modify our plan?), they basically didn't give us a resolution except an answer which equated to "it is what it is". It also took a few follow-ups to get this succinct response. When we were receiving the quote in the beginning, we were also enticed with rebates from Panasonic, only for them to not follow up on it on our behalf so we weren't able to get the rebates. Bummer but oh well. Overall, I would still recommend this company because of their products, and their longevity and expertise in the business, but definitely lots of room for improvement. read more

So my solar journey started back in 2018. We used EnergySage to do our research on solar and roofing companies who could do the job, but we ultimately decided against it since it didn't make a ton of financial sense since or monthly electric bill never got above $120. Fast forward 5 years, 2 kids, a plug-in car and a million electronic toys and devices and our energy needs have blown up. So I started doing some research again and got quotes and had hours of in-person. telephone, and text convos from 12 different companies offering purchase programs and even one (Sunrun) with a PPE proposal. I ultimately went with OC Solar after speaking with Benjamin Soza. He seemed super knowledgable and although he didn't offer the lowest price per watt, he was able to lower his initial bid and I felt really confident with him and the company that they would be able to get the project done in a timely manner and lock in NEM 2.0 before April's cutoff. Plus they offered Panasonic panels with a great warranty, so paying extra for the job seemed worth it. Now just a disclaimer ... we're still in the middle of the install, so this review is preliminary until the system is fully built out, and the switch is flipped, but so far everyone I've worked with from Benjamin in sales, to Jesse and Sergio on pulling permits to now Melissa and Elizabeth on the construction side have been great! They never take more than a day to get back to me (often within minutes after I call or email them) and hopefully it'll be smooth sailing until final sign off. But so far it's been great and I look forward to saying goodbye to SCE's raising rates. read more

I recently had a good experience with OC Solar. OC Solar was recommended by my cousin who also had a good experience. From start to finish, the process of having solar panels installed on my home was smooth. Paperwork was easy and digital. Payment was also easy with lots of payment methods available. Installation of 24 panels only took a day or two. Inspection took a little longer because of scheduling conflicts with the electric company during the holiday season so that was understandable. For the most part, I had a great experience with OC Solar. They were responsive with getting me a quote. Quick in sending out someone for the free estimate. When you get to these tier 1 panels, it almost becomes what you prefer. The longest part of this was getting the approval from the city, which took well over 2 months, but during the entire wait period, they would regularly send me emails about the status of the project. Installation was about 1 full day. The installers were great. I'd like to give a special shout out to Julian, Edgar, Rafael, and Angelo. True professionals. Efficient, got the job done quickly. Had everything installed and functional in a couple of hours. About $20,000 for 15 Panasonic panels. And that's prior to the 30% california rebate, which is not a bad price. Definitely do your due diligence, ask questions, shop around. But there were multiple other companies that were shady (able to install within a week.... did you even get city approval? Or really jacking up the price, etc.) or didn't communicate in a timely manner. Everyone here at oc Solar from the finance dept, to the project manager to the planning and approval person to everyone inbtwn was extremely responsive and answered my questions quickly and appropriately. We had our solar system installed in 2019 and like so many companies, the group that sold us the panels went out of business. When we had to have the panels removed and reinstalled when we replaced our roof, the company we used was terrible. Our panels were down (not producing) for at least 3 weeks after they were reinstalled. The company was unreliable and full of excuses. Fast forward to 2024 and our inverter needed a modem upgrade and I didn't know who to contact so I checked Yelp and found OC Solar with great reviews. Contacting them was a solid choice! They quickly got the modem upgraded and have become our go-to team for anything solar now. We recently had an issue with our inverter app so I called to schedule service and Ana did some troubleshooting with me and did a reset on her end but everything still looked the same so we scheduled service. The next day I checked the app and whatever Ana did the previous day cleared up the issue! I really appreciate that they made every effort to save me a service call. I will say that their fee for service calls may seem pricey but you get what you pay for. They are professional, honest, and reliable and worth every penny, you cannot put a price on peace of mind. read more

In January 2022 OC Solar installed 10 Panasonic panels and a SolarEdge inverter and optimizers. They were very professional and did a clean job. I was very satisfied with my salesman, the installation, and the system performance. They installed exactly the equipment the contract required, with no exceptions or issues. Recently there was a problem with the SolarEdge Inverter. For unknown reasons it was no longer communicating with the cellular system. We had a slight disagreement with their understanding of the contract. They initially stated that the comm equipment is only warranted for one year, which apparently is the current SolarEdge warranty, but my system has a 5-year comm warranty. The issue was resolved amicably. I think OC Solar is a professional organization that one can trust to do what they commit to do. read more

OC Solar just completed a complicated (well to me at least) entirely new solar system and took out a system that was quite possibly one of the first solar systems installed residentially and we couldn't be happier with the whole process. I had reached out to many companies to look at the old broken system we had. Sadly, quite a few charged to come out and say there was nothing they could do. OC Solar not only tried to fix it but was the only company to take the time to explain to me how the old system worked (or actually didn't work) and what the issues were. I simply can't recommend them enough!!! The communication was great as it is a complicated process. All the people involved from design to financing to permitting to removals of the old system to installation to explaining how the app works were so helpful and kind. Alfredo our foreman, Christian the inspection tech, Courtney the project manager, Melissa (Mel) the construction manager and Savannah who helped us pass the inspection were all great to work with as were all other techs.
